Lingering Game
Lingering Game chapter 30

When Jing Tian returned to the dormitory, Yang Yue hadn’t come back yet.

He sent a message to Yang Yue, asking where he was rehearsing and if he should go over and help.

After waiting for a while without receiving a reply, Jing Tian figured Yang Yue was too busy to check his phone, so he stopped bothering.

With some time on his hands, he wandered around the dormitory feeling a bit aimless.

If it were a few days ago, he would be studying with Zheng Xunqian in the self-study room right now.

Right, since there’s time, he should study properly.

Jing Tian took out his textbooks and placed them on the desk, then absentmindedly opened the drawer and took out the tablet.

Turning on the screen, he fell into a daze.

This belonged to Zheng Xunqian.

Sitting in the chair, holding the tablet, he stared blankly at it for a few seconds, then took out his phone from his pocket and opened the conversation with Zheng Xunqian.

But when he opened the input interface, he hesitated.

What should he say? “Your tablet is still with me, when do you want it back? I’ll bring it to you?”

…Strange.

Clearly initiating a conversation, yet it felt like a farewell announcement.

If he said it, their relationship might be over for good.

Frowning at the words “start chaos, end in abandonment” for a while, he put his phone away.

He’ll talk about it later; Zheng Xunqian couldn’t skip class every day.

Since Zheng Xunqian didn’t initiate it, it probably meant he didn’t mind lending the tablet to him for a few more days.

Jing Tian cursed himself for being thick-skinned in his mind, then lit up the tablet screen again.

With no one to explain and only relying on self-study, efficiency decreased significantly.

Jing Tian had only done two questions when he encountered trouble.

The conclusion he arrived at was different from the standard answer, but he couldn’t find any problems with the process.

After checking several times, he still couldn’t figure it out and felt a bit discouraged, so he slumped onto the desk.

Should he send a message to Zheng Xunqian and ask him? Would he reply?

Jing Tian took out his phone again and stared blankly at the words “start chaos, end in abandonment.”

He started to regret. If only he hadn’t gotten drunk that day, or hadn’t made random calls, hadn’t mistaken the person, none of those things would have happened.

He wouldn’t feel uneasy and resistant when he got close to Zheng Xunqian, nor would he constantly think about it when they didn’t meet.

But Zheng Xunqian bore more responsibility than him.

He was drunk, but Zheng Xunqian was sober.

Jing Tian suddenly remembered what Yang Yue had said before.

He said Zheng Xunqian had seen his tattoo and seemed to want to see it again.

That night, Zheng Xunqian not only looked but also kissed it.

He pressed his lips against the skin at his butt and said it was very beautiful.

Jing Tian unconsciously raised his hand and pressed it against that spot.

He still hadn’t been able to see clearly what the tattoo looked like.

He leaned on the desk, subconsciously trying to recall Zheng Xunqian’s tone at that time.

Deep, hoarse, accompanied by the sound of water, exuding a gentleness and seriousness different from usual.

It made people believe from the bottom of their hearts that the mark left on that small piece of skin must be very beautiful.

Jing Tian withdrew his hand as if shocked, then quickly stood up again.

He wanted to take a clear and complete look at what kind of pattern it was.

Holding the phone behind him, he aimed it at his own butt to take a photo, but the effect was not good.

Either it was crooked or out of focus, and the final photos were all strange, giving only a rough idea, and the effect wasn’t much better than twisting his head to look in the mirror.

After failing several times, Jing Tian came up with a bad idea.

Why not take a video?

First, he placed his phone on the table, then turned around himself, moving slowly back and forth, left and right, near and far, hoping to capture a clear image at some point.

Then he could pause and take a screenshot.

During the actual operation, he encountered a little trouble.

He didn’t have a dedicated bracket, so the phone couldn’t stand up.

But that didn’t stump him. Zheng Xunqian’s tablet had a built-in camera, so he could stand it up vertically and use it to film, achieving the same effect.

It was still early in the day, and Jing Tian hid in the dormitory, pulling down half of his pants to expose half of his butt, swaying back and forth in front of the tablet camera.

He estimated that this should capture a clear image. Just as he pressed pause, he heard the sound of the dormitory door being opened behind him.

Jing Tian quickly pulled up his pants.

Fortunately, when Yang Yue came in, he had already finished cleaning up at lightning speed and hadn’t exposed any indecent scenes.

“Unbelievable!” Yang Yue shouted as soon as he entered the room, “They made me stand next to a girl, that’s fine, but they insisted I stand right in the middle, so conspicuous! My face obviously looks like a guy’s, is that fair!”

Jing Tian thought, not necessarily.

Yang Yue seemed to lack a bit of objective awareness about his appearance.

The day before yesterday, when Yang Yue claimed to be his “boyfriend” in front of Chu Chen Tao, Jing Tian secretly ridiculed him. Judging solely by appearance, Yang Yue definitely looked more like a “girlfriend,” and the gentle and virtuous type at that.

Yang Yue had big eyes, pouty lips, a pointed chin, soft facial features, narrow double eyelids, slightly drooping corners of the eyes. Just looking at his face, he seemed obedient and innocent, which was very different from his personality.

“I suspect they’re deliberately trying to create humor, making me look ridiculous,” Yang Yue sighed, “I’m so miserable.”

Jing Tian wanted to comfort him with a few words, but he was afraid of saying the wrong thing and having the opposite effect.

Would Yang Yue want to hear him say, “Don’t worry, you really look pretty when you cross-dress, you can easily pass as a girl”?

Fortunately, Yang Yue just wanted to vent and didn’t mind whether he received feedback.

After throwing his backpack on the chair, Yang Yue took out a bottle of drink from it and handed it to Jing Tian. “This is for you.”

Jing Tian took it absentmindedly and soon froze.

It was a bottle of sugar-free Oolong tea.

Seeing Jing Tian staring wide-eyed, looking bewildered, Yang Yue said, “I happened to see them in stock when I bought drinks just now, so I brought you a bottle. You really like this, don’t you?”

Jing Tian blinked, unsure how to respond for a moment.

“Don’t you?” Yang Yue became confused. “I remember you used to buy it every day, and often several bottles at a time. Don’t you like it anymore?”

Jing Tian finally came to his senses. “It’s not… um, thank you.”

After saying that, he twisted open the bottle cap and took a sip.

It was bland, with a hint of bitterness, the kind of taste that he remembered as hard to swallow.

“Do you remember now?” Yang Yue grinned. “You used to drink it every day.”

Setting down the bottle, Jing Tian thought, I must have been crazy back then.

“What’s wrong?” Yang Yue approached him. “Your face suddenly turned so red.”

Jing Tian shook his head nervously. “It’s nothing.”

After saying that, to cover up, he took another big gulp.

The slight bitterness instantly became much stronger, and as he tried to swallow, it even became a bit astringent.

He would never like this awful taste at any time.

He liked sweet things, preferably with lots and lots of sugar added, the kind that ordinary people would find sickening after a few sips.

How could anyone love drinking this stuff?

Frowning, Jing Tian took another small sip.

“Were you just reviewing?” Yang Yue glanced at the books and scraps of paper scattered on the table.

“Um,” Jing Tian nodded, then cleared his throat and pretended to sit properly at the table.

He turned on the screen of the tablet, and immediately, an image of his butt appeared.

He was startled and quickly minimized it.

Luckily, Yang Yue didn’t notice at all.

“Are you going to review by yourself from now on?” Yang Yue asked.

“Yeah,” Jing Tian said, “We can study together when the final exams come.”

Yang Yue seemed a bit worried. “Are you sure it’s okay? Do you want to go ask Zhang Yuewei again?”

Jing Tian immediately shook his head.

He was never that shameless of a person, knowing full well the other person was just going through the motions and couldn’t force them to care.

Although, in his long-forgotten past, he seemed to have done so.

But not anymore, not to anyone.

He still couldn’t figure out the problem with the stuck question.

Helpless, he could only put it aside for now and do another one.

But soon, a new problem arose.

There was a question that he found extremely difficult and couldn’t wrap his head around at all, and the standard answer only had the word “brief.”

Jing Tian finally started to get annoyed.

Just as he was about to switch to another subject, the phone on the table suddenly vibrated.

Jing Tian picked it up absentmindedly and quickly froze.

The screen displayed two big words: “Zheng Xunqian,” causing his breathing to instantly become erratic.

What’s going on? Why is this person suddenly calling me? What does he want to say? Is he calling to ask for his tablet back, or to ask if I want to go to the study room? Will he bring up what happened at the hotel? How should I respond?

In the brief few seconds, countless thoughts raced through his brain.

Before answering the call, Jing Tian took a deep breath.

“…Hello?” Even though he had just drunk some water, his throat felt a bit dry, and his voice sounded strange. “Do you need something?”

A familiar voice came from the other end of the line: “Hmm.”

Jing Tian lowered his head and pressed his hand firmly against the left side of his chest, asking, “What’s up?”

“You…” Zheng Xunqian paused for a moment. “Did you… deliberately share that with me to see?”

“What?” Jing Tian was puzzled. “What do you mean by deliberately? See what?”

After a few seconds of silence, Zheng Xunqian surprisingly chuckled, “So it wasn’t deliberate.”

Jing Tian was baffled. “What are you talking about?”

“Sorry,” Zheng Xunqian’s voice sounded unnatural, slightly trembling as if he couldn’t stop laughing. “It was my fault. I neglected it before.”

Jing Tian immediately replied, “Uh, it’s okay.”

He had no idea what Zheng Xunqian was talking about.

But hearing him laugh, and thinking about his smiling face, Jing Tian felt that everything was not a big deal and could be accepted.

“Are you sure?” Zheng Xunqian asked. “Do you know what I’m talking about?”

“Well, then, what are you saying?” Jing Tian said.

“The tablet I lent you…” Zheng Xunqian hesitated.

“Do you want it back?”

“No, I just wanted to say… I logged into my account on it, and I forgot to log out before lending it to you,” Zheng Xunqian said, “and it syncs with my phone.”

Jing Tian still didn’t understand. “So?”

“Now, if you open the gallery, you can see my phone’s photo album,” Zheng Xunqian said.

Jing Tian was stunned. “Huh?”

“…And I can also see what you’ve taken,” Zheng Xunqian said. “I thought you did it on purpose. It’s quite well done.”

Jing Tian was stunned for two seconds, then let out a scream and quickly hung up the phone.

Yang Yue, who was playing a game, was startled by him. “What’s wrong with you?”

Jing Tian didn’t have time to answer at the moment.

Trembling, he opened the gallery on the tablet and indeed saw many photo albums.

The second one was a thumbnail of his butt.

The latest photo was of a piece of paper with a few big words written on it: What are you doing?

With trembling hands, Jing Tian deleted the video he had just taken, and then quickly entered the recycle bin and chose to completely empty it.

After doing all this, his heart still beat wildly, and his face flushed red.

Before he could calm down, a new photo was automatically downloaded to the album list.

It was still the same piece of paper, but there was an additional line of text below: I guessed you would delete it, so I backed it up.

There was even a smiling face below.

Jing Tian felt dizzy and almost cried.

Furious and embarrassed, he grabbed his phone and typed quickly and forcefully.

——Get lost!!!!!!
