That evening, Jing Tian made sure to bring Zheng Xunqian’s tablet to bed with him.
Lying under the covers with a mix of nervousness and anticipation, he wanted to see what might be in the photo gallery.
It wasn’t good to sneak a look at someone else’s photos.
But since Zheng Xunqian knew he could access it and didn’t log out, even intentionally showed him some pictures, it should mean he didn’t mind, right?
After all, he had embarrassed himself before, so it was appropriate to reciprocate.
Finding enough excuses for himself, Jing Tian opened the photo gallery with an excitement of doing something mischievous, only to be disappointed.
He was too nervous when he opened it a few hours ago and didn’t look closely.
Apart from a few scattered photos, most of them were folders.
Half of them were locked and required a password to open, while the rest mostly consisted of study materials like courseware and some scenery photos downloaded from the internet.
Disappointed, Jing Tian opened and closed them one by one, not finding anything interesting.
Until he opened the last album, which had only one picture.
Looking at the thumbnail, it was a vertically long image.
Jing Tian tapped on it and was immediately stunned.
In the middle of the screen, there were several slightly mocking big characters: “What are you looking at?”
Jing Tian’s eyes widened, and his face quickly flushed.
Just as he was about to exit quickly, he noticed a line of small text below: “Since you’re here, let me show you something good ↓↓↓”
The last few arrows were probably meant to indicate that he should scroll down.
Suspicious, Jing Tian slid down the screen and soon froze.
At the bottom of this long image was a simple and clean black and white pattern.
A pair of intertwined hands broke out of a cocoon-like object, with fingertips turning into flying feathers, as if about to take flight.
Jing Tian immediately recognized what it was.
The difficult-to-see tattoo behind him had exactly the same outline.
It was really beautiful.
But why did Zheng Xunqian have this picture? He didn’t mention it when I asked him before.
This guy always keeps half of the story hidden, which makes it impossible for people to fully trust him.
Jing Tian took out his phone, intending to send a message to Zheng Xunqian.
He opened the chat box but hesitated.
Would this be considered falling into a trap and exposing himself for snooping through the photo album?
After hesitating for a while, he decided to approach it indirectly and started with something else.
—Are you feeling better?
He pressed send, but there was no response from the other side.
It wasn’t until the next morning that Zheng Xunqian finally replied.
—Much better.
Jing Tian had just finished washing up when he received the message.
He replied immediately.
—Are you going to class today?
This time, Zheng Xunqian responded quickly.
—Do you want to see me?
Jing Tian immediately felt at a loss.
He stared at his phone for a long time, then chose to put down his phone first and went to wake up Yang Yue.
As Yang Yue was awakened by Jing Tian pulling off the covers and dragging him out of bed, he sleepily walked into the bathroom, asking, “What are you so happy about this early in the morning?”
Jing Tian hurriedly stuffed his phone into his pocket, “It’s still early, hurry up or you’ll be late!”
On the way to the classroom, Yang Yue stared at his head for a while, reaching out to tousle it and said, “Your black hair has grown out.”
Jing Tian had noticed it himself.
The part of his hair that had been dyed was very light in color, making the newly grown black hair look somewhat awkward.
“Do you want to touch it up?” Yang Yue asked him.
Jing Tian was surprised, “How do you touch it up?”
“Re-dye the roots,” Yang Yue said, “I can do that too.”
Jing Tian exclaimed, “How come you’re so good at this!”
Yang Yue laughed, “Because I have to touch it up for you every once in a while, so I naturally become proficient. You can also take this opportunity to change the color.”
Jing Tian hesitated.
“You don’t want to dye it black again, do you?” Yang Yue asked.
“…Let’s talk about it later,” Jing Tian said, “I’ll think about it.”
When they arrived at the classroom, Zheng Xunqian was already there.
He was sitting in his usual slightly secluded spot, and when he saw Jing Tian, he immediately picked up the backpack that was originally placed on the next seat.
Although he didn’t speak, his intentions were quite obvious.
“Tsk tsk tsk.”
Yang Yue made a meaningful sound.
Jing Tian lowered his head and silently walked forward.
After sitting down in Zheng Xunqian’s original seat, he didn’t speak or look around. He just lowered his head and tidied up his belongings. Yang Yue, who came over with him, took the initiative to engage with Zheng Xunqian, “Would you prefer if I sit farther away?”
“It doesn’t matter,” Zheng Xunqian said, “You can sit wherever you want.”
“Then let’s have lunch together later?” Yang Yue added.
Zheng Xunqian looked at him, “Sure.”
Yang Yue looked at his expression and chuckled, “Forget it, I’m not that insensitive.”
Jing Tian sat between the two of them, keeping his head down and blushing, not saying a word.
“By the way, help us brainstorm,” Yang Yue said to Zheng Xunqian again, “Jing Tian wants to dye his hair again. What color do you think looks good?”
Zheng Xunqian turned to look at Jing Tian’s profile for a moment and said, “Any color is fine.”
“That’s as good as not saying anything,” Yang Yue was very dissatisfied with this, “Give us some useful suggestions.”
Zheng Xunqian’s gaze still lingered on Jing Tian’s face as he said, “Any color is fine.”
“Any color,” Yang Yue sneered, “then I’ll dye him a rainbow.”
At noon, the two of them had lunch together as they did a while ago, and then went to the small study room.
Jing Tian felt somewhat bewildered.
In this way, it seemed as if nothing had ever happened between them.
Although this was the result he had hoped for, he felt uncomfortable and even a little disappointed.
“You mentioned before that you wanted to dye your hair back to black,” Zheng Xunqian brought up the old topic after entering the small study room, “Changed your mind?”
“Yang Yue said I’m not suited for dark hair, lighter colors would look better,” Jing Tian said.
Zheng Xunqian stared at him again.
Jing Tian kept his head down, “What do you think? When I had black hair, did I look very unsophisticated?”
Zheng Xunqian hesitated for a few seconds before saying, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you with black hair.”
This answer was unexpected but also reasonable.
Yang Yue had mentioned that during the class meeting where Zheng Xunqian almost made Zhao Qinyin cry, Jing Tian was deciding what color to dye his hair.
So, Zheng Xunqian had seen him with black hair, he just didn’t remember.
To the Zheng Xunqian of that time, Jing Tian was a non-existent person.
Realizing this, Jing Tian felt even more lost.
It wasn’t surprising. He could fully imagine that for a long time after that, until his personality gradually became more outgoing, Zheng Xunqian had never looked at him directly and had ignored him.
When did Zheng Xunqian start to look at him?
He kept his head down and remained silent, and Zheng Xunqian seemed to misunderstand something and spoke again, “What you like is more important.”
“Huh?” Jing Tian looked up.
“If you really like rainbow colors, you can give it a try,” Zheng Xunqian smiled.
Jing Tian looked at him dumbfoundedly.
“…Just don’t walk next to me.”
Zheng Xunqian added.
Here it comes again, Jing Tian thought, it’s the familiar and irritating attitude.
“Then I’ll dye it green.”
He muttered.
Unexpectedly, Zheng Xunqian had some objections to this, “That’s not good.”
“Just now you said it’s fine if I like it.”
“The symbolism isn’t good,” Zheng Xunqian said, “You might as well dye it red.”
Jing Tian suddenly felt like laughing.
He forced himself to hold it back, took out his tablet from his bag, and suddenly remembered the picture he saw last night.
“Oh, the pink you dyed before looked pretty good,”
Jing Tian thought, I don’t care what you think.
He opened the desktop of the tablet, took a deep breath, and asked, “Can I take a look at your photo files?”
Zheng Xunqian thought for a moment and replied, “No.”
Damn it.
He shouldn’t have asked.
Now, he couldn’t find any excuse to bring up that picture.
On the way back to the dormitory, they unexpectedly ran into Shu Ziqin.
As soon as this lively and outgoing junior saw them, he immediately waved his arms vigorously from afar.
Jing Tian also raised his hand to wave, with alarm bells ringing in his mind.
Sure enough, Shu Ziqin smiled and ran up to them, and the first thing he said was, “Have you guys made up?”
Zheng Xunqian raised an eyebrow slightly.
“I told you so, it would be fine in a couple of days,” Shu Ziqin seemed very happy, “What grudge can good brothers hold against each other overnight?”
“Heh,” Jing Tian tugged at Zheng Xunqian’s sleeve, “We have something to do, so we’ll leave first.”
Shu Ziqin waved goodbye to them with a smile, “See you in class next week!”
After he ran off, Zheng Xunqian spoke softly, “Did you have a falling out with your good brother?”
Jing Tian found it annoying that he was being asked such an obvious question. After hesitating for a while, he replied, “I’m not telling you.”
“It probably wasn’t about us,” Zheng Xunqian added, “I was simply abandoned and felt sad for a day.”
“Oh, and I was sick.”
He added.
He said it calmly, not sounding like he was hurt at all, but rather, he seemed to handle it with ease.
It seemed that Jing Tian’s actions hadn’t caused him much pain.
Jing Tian walked ahead with his head down, secretly thinking that maybe this meant he wasn’t as concerned as he thought he was.
“Ignoring me?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
“I have a question,” Jing Tian spoke without looking at him, “When you said that just now, was it because you only remembered what I looked like when I dyed my hair pink?”
