Chapter 41: Was Fu Zhengnan Scammed? The Police Arrive
Early in the morning, someone knocked on Fu Zhengnan’s door.
Normally, he wouldn’t have cared, but he wondered if Jiang Qingqing was outside, so he glanced at the surveillance monitor.
However, upon seeing the person on the screen, he immediately looked away.
He had no intention of answering.
Chen Xiaoyue had been standing outside for half an hour.
For some reason, the Chen family had suddenly been blacklisted by all major business partners.
Some had even signed contracts, yet they chose to terminate the agreements without hesitation, not even asking for breach-of-contract compensation.
After much deliberation, Father Chen could only think of one family in Haicheng with the power to do this—the Fu family. He immediately sent Chen Xiaoyue to ask Fu Zhengnan for help.
“Zhengnan, please open the door. Let’s talk for a moment.”
No response.
But Chen Xiaoyue remained persistent.
Inside, Fu Zhengnan saw that it was almost time for work. After finishing his conversation with Jiang Qingqing, he picked up his suit and prepared to leave.
Seeing him come out, Chen Xiaoyue thought he had softened.
She quickly stepped forward.
“Zhengnan, the Chen family is in trouble… I was wondering if you could help us?”
“I’ll do anything you ask.”
Chen Xiaoyue followed closely behind him, giving a clear hint.
But Fu Zhengnan remained indifferent. When the elevator doors opened, he pressed the button for the second basement level.
Only when Chen Xiaoyue tried to move closer did he coldly remind her, “Miss Chen, I believe I should remind you—there’s plenty of space in the elevator.”
Chen Xiaoyue felt embarrassed.
But looking up at him from this close distance, he seemed even more distinguished and refined than before.
Her cheeks flushed slightly, though she wasn’t sure if it was from embarrassment or something else.
“I’m just anxious. Our business partners suddenly terminated their contracts.”
Today, she wore a V-neck camisole, completely disregarding the autumn chill, intent on showcasing her figure.
Before she could continue speaking, Fu Zhengnan bluntly said:
“It was me who informed the business partners.”
“Ding—”
The elevator arrived at the basement level. Without even glancing back, Fu Zhengnan stepped out.
The admiration in Chen Xiaoyue’s heart froze.
Was that a clear rejection?
But…
“Fu Zhengnan, I know who was behind the attempt to shoot you on the cruise.”
Chen Xiaoyue suddenly shouted at his retreating figure.
If he wanted to reject her, fine. She would make sure he understood—only she, Chen Xiaoyue, was worthy of being his wife.
Fu Zhengnan stopped in his tracks and turned around.
His long eyelashes fluttered slightly as he gazed down at her, his expression calm. “Are you talking about the Bai family?”
Chen Xiaoyue was stunned. “You already know?”
Wasn’t the Bai family the most powerful family in the capital? How could the Fu family of Haicheng have uncovered their involvement?
Seeing her reaction, Fu Zhengnan already had his answer.
He hadn’t been entirely sure before.
The clues pointing to the Bai family had been too vague.
But now, he was certain.
He just didn’t know why the Bai family had suddenly targeted him. It was probably related to that game.
“My father knows people from the Bai family. If you need, I can help you.”
“You should know—it’s not easy to get a meeting with them.”
Chen Xiaoyue eagerly extended what she thought was an olive branch.
There must have been some misunderstanding.
If she could help Fu Zhengnan get in touch with the Bai family, then maybe…
But to her surprise,
Fu Zhengnan didn’t even acknowledge her. Without looking back, he got into his luxury sports car.
The roar of the engine echoed through the underground parking lot, and in an instant, the car had already sped away.
Chen Xiaoyue stomped her foot as she watched the car disappear.
This man was really hard to get.
What was he so proud of? This was the Bai family of the capital, not just any ordinary family. Without her introduction, how did he plan to make connections?
—
Ten minutes later
Fu Zhengnan arrived at his company.
As soon as he entered, he saw two police officers sitting on the sofa. His assistant, Zhang, stood awkwardly to the side, explaining something.
“President Fu.”
The officers were the first to notice him and greeted him proactively.
Fu Zhengnan gave a slight nod in acknowledgment.
“What brings you here today?”
Here’s the translated text with correct grammar:
The officer observed that Fu Zhengnan remained composed and expressionless, so he decided to get straight to the point.
“It’s like this—our bank contacts have reported some unusual transactions from your account over the past few days.”
“The total amount is close to 20 million, and the recipient is an overseas account.”
“So…”
The officer hesitated, closely watching Fu Zhengnan’s expression.
“Hm?”
Seated in his leather chair, Fu Zhengnan gazed back at the officer with a nonchalant demeanor. “What exactly are you trying to say?”
His tone was light, almost indifferent.
Yet, there was an inexplicable sense of authority and pressure.
The officer wiped his forehead—though there was no actual sweat—and spoke in a low voice, “President Fu, a number of people in Haicheng have reported cases of fraud today. All of them were deceived by scammers posing as romantic partners and tricked into transferring funds.”
“So we were wondering… were you scammed in a ‘pig-butchering’ scheme?”
The moment those words left his mouth, the entire office fell into silence.
Assistant Zhang, who had some idea of the situation, was struggling to hold back his laughter.
A pig-butchering scam?
This was the first time he had ever heard someone ask such a ridiculous question to his boss.
If Fu Zhengnan could be scammed like that, Zhang would gladly offer his own head. Extracting money from a ruthless capitalist like him? Impossible.
Unless he willingly gave it away.
Fu Zhengnan’s thin lips pressed together slightly, but he showed no sign of anger.
He simply replied in a calm, distant voice, “It’s not a scam. You can leave now.”
The officer opened his mouth, still wanting to persuade him.
After all, no one who falls for a pig-butchering scam ever admits they’ve been scammed.
Maybe he hadn’t realized it yet, but by the time he did, it would be too late for regrets.
“President Fu, why don’t you tell us the details of your transactions? We can help you analyze the situation.”
The officer pulled out a pen and notepad, waiting for Fu Zhengnan to speak.
But instead of hearing his voice, they suddenly heard a woman’s.
Soft and coquettish.
“I still need a few things. Can you buy them for me~?”
For tonight’s prison break, she still lacked some explosives and weapons.
Jiang Qingqing immediately went back to her room to ask Fu Zhengnan for them. Since he had recently set up an automatic voice message system, her words were clearly broadcasted in the office.
The officers’ eyes widened in shock!
This—!
This was a textbook pig-butchering scam! Making someone spend money to buy things, investing under various pretenses, transferring funds…
The officer instantly felt a heavy sense of duty.
He spoke sternly, “President Fu, I believe it is necessary for you to listen to the police’s advice.”
Fu Zhengnan’s thin lips pressed together slightly, but he remained silent.
Instead, he simply tapped his index finger lightly on the desk, producing a rhythmic “tap, tap” sound.
Assistant Zhang, of course, recognized this as a sign of his boss’s impatience.
His playful expression immediately turned serious as he stepped forward, shamelessly ushering the two officers out of the office, half escorting and half dragging them.
“Officers, please, this way. President Fu has an upcoming meeting.”
The two officers stared at the office door as it closed in front of them.
Their vision darkened.
Damn it!
