Fifth Day of Pretending to Be an Alpha
Chi Cheng stormed out of the Shengmo company building. His steps gradually slowed down, waiting for the man behind him to catch up. But no one did. Chu Mo, just like when they were kids, ignored Chi Cheng’s anger. Chi Cheng even suspected that Chu Mo didn’t even know why he was angry.
As soon as he got into the car, Chi Cheng started complaining to the driver, “Chu Mo is even more arrogant than before! He didn’t even recognize me at first glance!”
Uncle Zhou comforted him, “It’s normal for him not to recognize you. People change a lot over time.”
Chi Cheng reached for the necklace around his neck, “I even wore the necklace he gave me to meet him!”
He took off the necklace, initially wanting to throw it out the window, but in the end, he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Chi Cheng reluctantly stuffed the necklace back into his bag.
Uncle Zhou: “…”
This necklace was originally bought by Chu Mo with the first money he earned in high school for his brother Chu Yun. Because the size was wrong and the return period had passed, Chu Mo was going to throw it away. When Chi Cheng found out, he shamelessly asked for the necklace. Since both families’ parents were present at the time, Chu Mo couldn’t refuse and went along with it. In Chi Cheng’s version, it became “the necklace Chu Mo gave him.”
Uncle Zhou sighed, “Young master, calm down. There’s still a long way to go now that you’re back in the country.”
“I can’t calm down!” Chi Cheng gritted his teeth, “Take me home!”
Uncle Zhou silently mourned for Chi Cheng. The young master might face more challenges now that he’s back in the country than he did as a child.
After Chi Cheng left, Xie Songchen watched his back and suddenly asked Chu Mo, “Who was that?”
Chu Mo interpreted Xie Songchen’s reaction as: the first attacker being wary of the second attacker. In the original story, the rivalry between Xie Songchen and Chi Cheng was intense. The two would compete for attention as soon as they met, even getting into physical fights several times. Therefore, it was expected that Xie Songchen would be wary of Chi Cheng upon their first meeting.
“Another Alpha who is a 100% match with Chu Yun,” Chu Mo glanced at Xie Songchen, speaking meaningfully, “He also likes Chu Yun.”
Xie Songchen picked up the brown paper bag on the ground, looked up at Chu Mo, and asked, “Do you still want this shirt?”
Chu Mo looked at the shirt, trying hard to recall. He did remember a shirt that got dirty because of Chi Cheng and then disappeared. He always thought that shirt had been thrown away. Could it be that Chi Cheng kept that shirt all along? Impossible. That didn’t seem like something Chi Cheng would do.
“Keep it,” Chu Mo said after a moment of silence.
Xie Songchen didn’t say anything. After a while, as they were about to leave the company to meet a client, “That Alpha,” Xie Songchen suddenly asked while driving Chu Mo, “Does he really like Chu Yun?”
Chu Mo thought to himself, as expected, Xie Songchen couldn’t help but start probing about his rival.
“He’s liked Chu Yun since they were kids, often coming to the Chu family. He’s known Chu Yun longer than you have,” Chu Mo raised an eyebrow, speaking slowly, “But so what? Our little Yun won’t be with him.”
Hearing Chu Mo’s words, Xie Songchen stared at him for two seconds, expressionless, and said, “Your obliviousness sometimes exceeds my imagination.”
The seemingly random comment left Chu Mo slightly stunned. Before he could react, Xie Songchen had already moved to the back seat, taking out his computer to work. Chu Mo couldn’t help but feel puzzled—what did Xie Songchen mean by that? Oblivious? He knew the entire plot of the book, how could he be oblivious!
Chu Mo didn’t take Xie Songchen’s words to heart.
At night, in the bustling city center of H City, inside a private room of an expensive high-end club, Chi Cheng sat on the corner of the sofa, took a sip of whiskey from the table, his expression gloomy, exuding a low-pressure aura. Chi Cheng didn’t actually like places like this. After returning to the country, a bunch of friends invited him out to play, and since he was in a bad mood today, he came to this club.
Around him were many good-looking men and women, and in such a place filled with indulgence, any hint of alcohol or lighting would create an ambiguous atmosphere. Chi Cheng, however, was dressed tightly, wearing a baseball cap that cast a shadow over most of his face. Even so, his superior physique and aura attracted many people to toast him. Chi Cheng didn’t even glance at them.
Chi Cheng’s old Alpha friend, Cheng Cheng, sat next to him and said, “Little Chi, why are you like this as soon as you return to the country? Heartbroken?”
Chi Cheng frowned, “Will you die if you don’t speak?”
“Look on the bright side, it’s just that the Chu family doesn’t fancy you,” Cheng Cheng, being Chi Cheng’s close friend, spoke without reservation, “There are so many Omegas here, surely there’s one you like?”
Chi Cheng suppressed his inner irritation, took a sip of his drink, “Not interested.”
“You brat, the outside world says you sleep with Omegas every day, but in reality, you’re still a…”
Cheng Cheng was cut off by a sharp glare from Chi Cheng and instantly fell silent. To ease the awkwardness, Cheng Cheng half-jokingly said, “You can’t possibly like betas, right? Those betas are pretty boring.”
Chi Cheng took a sip of whiskey, his tone indifferent, “Not interested.”
Cheng Cheng continued joking, “Could it be you like Alphas? That would be quite something.”
“Who likes Alphas?!” Chi Cheng, upon hearing this, suddenly put down his glass, his angry demeanor completely different from before.
Cheng Cheng was stunned, and after a while, he muttered softly, “Why such a big temper?”
“He’s so arrogant, cold, and dismissive,” Chi Cheng gritted his teeth, his jawline tense, “He doesn’t even see me, why would I like him?!”
Cheng Cheng’s brain was about to fry, “Huh? Who? Who are you talking about?”
Chi Cheng stood up, hands in his pockets, kicked Cheng Cheng with a dark face, and walked out of the private room alone. He took out a cigarette, suddenly realizing he didn’t have a lighter, which worsened his mood, his brows furrowing.
At this moment, a few Omegas from the private room noticed this scene and came out, surrounding Chi Cheng to offer him a lighter. Chi Cheng, feeling irritated, was about to shoo them away when he caught sight of a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye.
Not far away, at the entrance of a more upscale SVIP private room than the VIP one, stood a tall, well-dressed Alpha. Chu Mo had come out today to accompany clients for business. After the meal, he was dragged to the club by a few bosses. These bosses had intricate connections with the entire H City’s industries, and he needed to maintain good relations with them. Chu Mo had let his staff, including Xie Songchen, leave first, attending the gathering alone.
This club was known for its excellent privacy and confidentiality, attracting only the wealthy and influential. Chu Mo appeared to be the most “influential” person there. The Omegas surrounding Chi Cheng had already shifted their attention, whispering among themselves:
“Is that an Alpha? He’s so handsome.”
“I think I’ve seen him at a banquet, it’s President Chu.”
“President Chu? Could it be that President Chu?!”
Suddenly, all attention was focused on Chu Mo. This scene brought Chi Cheng back to his childhood. Chi Cheng was a force to be reckoned with among elementary school students, the undisputed king of kids. But whenever Chu Mo appeared, the attention of those around would immediately shift.
Chu Mo heard the commotion and looked towards Chi Cheng. The moment their eyes met, a hint of surprise flashed in Chu Mo’s eyes. In the original story, Chu Mo often encountered Chi Cheng in such extravagant clubs. The difference was, Chu Mo was there for business, while Chi Cheng was there for pleasure. Chu Mo disapproved of Chi Cheng’s behavior, and every time they met, he would openly or subtly mock Chi Cheng, telling him that he would never let his brother be with someone like Chi Cheng.
Under Chu Mo’s humiliation, Chi Cheng would get angry and resolve to change his ways, cutting ties with all the Omegas around him. From then on, Chi Cheng turned over a new leaf, focusing on his career, transforming from “Little Chi” to the renowned “President Chi” of H City. People gradually noticed Chi Cheng’s change of heart, realizing he only wanted to be with Chu Yun, praising him as a rare, devoted Alpha.
Chu Mo had just stepped out for some fresh air, not expecting to run into Chi Cheng indulging himself so soon. The two stood at different private room entrances, the lighting on them completely different. Chu Mo’s private room was the most exclusive in the club, with the bosses entering and exiting directly impacting the club’s revenue. The club owner never dared to let just anyone serve in that room, even the lighting was clean and bright, exuding a sense of understated luxury and elegance.
The lighting on Chi Cheng, however, was a purple ambient light, constantly changing, extremely suggestive. The corridor fell silent as the two stood several meters apart. Chi Cheng glanced at the people around him and coldly said, “Get lost.” The Omegas, though eager to meet Chu Mo, could only reluctantly retreat under Chi Cheng’s intimidating gaze.
The cigarette in Chi Cheng’s hand was already lit, the scarlet glow flickering in the suggestive lighting, smoke swirling around. He glanced at Chu Mo, wanting to say many things, but swallowed them back. Chi Cheng remembered how Chu Mo had forgotten him, his fingers involuntarily clenching into a fist. He didn’t want to talk to someone like that.
Just as Chi Cheng was about to turn and leave, a familiar yet unfamiliar mocking voice came from behind—
“Chi Chengjun, you come to places like this as soon as you return to the country?”
Chi Cheng froze, his steps halting. Humiliating Chi Cheng in a high-end club was a scene from the original story. Chu Mo no longer avoided suspicion, walking straight up to Chi Cheng, calling out his former name. “Chi Chengjun” was Chi Cheng’s sore spot, something no one could touch. At best, they’d be scolded, at worst, beaten. Even Chi Cheng’s parents calling him “Little Jun” would get a retort.
Chi Cheng looked at Chu Mo in disbelief, “What did you call me?”
Before Chi Cheng went abroad, for quite a long time, his name was Chi Chengjun. Chu Mo was used to calling him that. “Ahem,” Chu Mo coughed to cover his embarrassment, “What, don’t dare to answer my question directly?”
Chi Cheng stared blankly at Chu Mo. After a moment, he came back to his senses, tugging at his cap, using the shadow of the brim to hide his upturned lips. He lowered his voice, feigning anger, “Don’t call me that name.”
But there was no real anger in his tone. At this moment, Chi Cheng seemed to suddenly remember something, frowning at Chu Mo, retorting, “You have the nerve to ask me? Why are you here?”
He glanced behind Chu Mo, confirming there were no unsavory people around him. Chu Mo looked at Chi Cheng openly, a hint of disdain on his noble and aloof face, “I’m here for business, not like you, looking for fun.”
At that moment, Chi Cheng recalled his childhood, where Chu Mo would always look down on him with a superior gaze. Now, even though Chi Cheng had grown taller than Chu Mo, he still felt a sense of being looked down upon. Chi Cheng once had this thought—if Chu Mo really differentiated into an Alpha, he would probably look down on all the Alphas in the world. Including Chi Cheng.
Before differentiating, Chu Mo was already excellent. Chi Cheng’s parents often told him, “Look at the eldest young master of the Chu family next door.” Now, what Chi Cheng feared had come true.
“Looking for fun? I, Chi Cheng, don’t need to come to such a place for fun.” Chi Cheng raised his eyes, his tone serious, “I think you’re the one looking for fun, dressing so handsomely and claiming to be here for business…”
Pride made Chi Cheng retort Chu Mo without thinking, accidentally speaking his mind. Realizing he had complimented Chu Mo, Chi Cheng immediately shut up, showing a regretful expression. Chu Mo was taken aback by this. Did Chi Cheng just compliment him on being handsome?
Chi Cheng, embarrassed and angry, his ears turning a bit red from anger, “Anyway, I’m only here because I’m in a bad mood, not to find Omegas!”
Chu Mo didn’t dwell on Chi Cheng’s previous words. He followed Chi Cheng’s lead, continuing to play the role of a brother-protecting Alpha, coldly saying, “Stop pretending, Chi Cheng, what kind of good Alpha smells like smoke all over? I don’t care what your purpose is for returning to the country, don’t have any delusions about my brother.”
Chi Cheng glanced at the burning cigarette in his hand. The next second, he tossed the cigarette away, using his limited edition running shoes to stomp it out. The remaining smoke swirled in the suggestive lighting. Chi Cheng raised his chin, revealing his smooth and handsome face. He raised an eyebrow at Chu Mo, challenging, “Evidence?”
Chu Mo was caught off guard by Chi Cheng’s actions. He didn’t expect Chi Cheng to be so eager to prove his “innocence.” Chi Cheng took a deep breath, wanting to take this opportunity to apologize for what he did as a child and establish a good relationship with Chu Mo—this was one of Chi Cheng’s main reasons for returning to the country.
He lowered his eyes, pursed his lips, and was about to apologize, “About the past, I was…”
Just then, the SVIP private room door opened, and the bosses Chu Mo had been doing business with came out, asking why President Chu hadn’t returned to the room yet. Interrupting Chi Cheng mid-sentence, leaving him stunned.
Chu Mo heard the bosses talking and suddenly realized something. He quickly put on a smile, telling the bosses, “I ran into an old acquaintance.” With that, Chu Mo earnestly introduced them, “This is the young master of the Chi family, known as ‘Little Chi’.”
Chi Cheng was taken aback, not expecting Chu Mo to suddenly introduce him to those bosses. Chu Mo did this because he remembered there was such a scene in the original story. In the novel, Chu Mo and a group of bosses encountered Chi Cheng at the club, joining forces to humiliate him.
“The Chi family, huh?” One of the middle-aged bosses thought seriously for a moment, then smiled in realization, “Oh, the Chi family that lost billions in the foreign financial sector, right?”
Chi Cheng’s face darkened, “What does that have to do with you, old man?”
The middle-aged boss froze, “You, you…”
“Young man has quite a temper,” the bald boss next to him frowned, “The little Chi family, now with no status in H City, dares to show attitude in front of us?”
Chi Cheng sneered, retorting, “What, afraid I’ll see my own attitude reflected on your bald head?”
The bald boss was shocked, “What do you mean?!”
In the original story, Chi Cheng had a bad temper and often suffered in the business world. Chu Mo knew this, letting these bosses provoke Chi Cheng, then taking the opportunity to humiliate him, making him toast to everyone.
“With such a big temper, you still want to mix in the H City business world?” Chu Mo coldly looked at Chi Cheng, speaking bluntly, “I think the Chi family is beyond saving.”
Chi Cheng was stunned for a moment, then frowned, gritting his teeth, “Chu Mo, you’re siding with these idiots?!”
The bald boss, called an “idiot,” gritted his teeth, sarcastically saying, “President Chu, why bother reasoning with someone like him? Whether he lives or dies has nothing to do with you.”
Chi Cheng glared at the bald boss, “And what does it have to do with you, someone whose hair transplant can’t even save your receding hairline?”
“You brat dare to say that to me?! You…” The bald boss’s face turned beet red with anger.
“Chi Cheng, no matter how immature you are, you should understand that H City is run by these bosses.” Chu Mo stood in the center position, stopping Chi Cheng from escalating the situation further, “With your current state, you still want to step into our Chu family’s door?”
Chu Mo seemed to be speaking for the bosses, but in reality, he was also reminding Chi Cheng—that in the business world, one must learn to restrain their temper.
Chi Cheng clearly wasn’t listening, his anger making him speak without thinking, “Chu Mo, I never thought you’d hang out with these kinds of people every day! You weren’t like this before…”
He never expected Chu Mo to become so unfamiliar.
Chu Mo’s face turned cold, scolding Chi Cheng, “Are you so sure I wasn’t like this before?”
Chi Cheng froze, then showed an incredulous expression.
