Fourteenth Day of Pretending to Be an Alpha
On the fourteenth day of pretending to be an A, Chu Mo stepped out the door and caught Chi Cheng hurriedly hiding his phone in his pocket.
Chu Mo was puzzled, “What’s up with you?”
Chi Cheng tried to act calm, standing up and looking at Chu Mo. “Nothing,” he said awkwardly, attempting to change the subject, “What did the doctor say?”
Hearing this, Chu Mo felt a bit guilty. He feigned calmness, discreetly folding the diagnosis report and tucking it into his jacket pocket. “The doctor said it’s nothing serious,” Chu Mo replied, “Just need to watch my diet.”
Chi Cheng breathed a small sigh of relief, “That’s good.”
Both of them were preoccupied with their own thoughts, not noticing each other’s unease.
As they left the hospital, Chi Cheng said to Chu Mo, “There’s a restaurant nearby that’s still open. I’ve reserved some light dishes. We can go eat now. You can take your medicine after eating.”
Chu Mo was surprised. He hadn’t expected Chi Cheng to reserve a restaurant for him. “I told you, trying to please me won’t work,” Chu Mo said expressionlessly.
Chi Cheng turned his head, speaking stiffly, “I just feel sorry for you being a patient.”
Chu Mo was starving. He stared at Chi Cheng for a while and finally didn’t refuse.
Twenty minutes later, Chi Cheng took Chu Mo to a small restaurant. The dishes Chi Cheng ordered for Chu Mo were indeed very light.
While eating, Chu Mo habitually took out his phone to handle work emails. Suddenly, a large hand snatched his phone away. Chu Mo was taken aback.
Chi Cheng held Chu Mo’s phone and turned it off right in front of him. Staring at Chu Mo and the food in front of him, Chi Cheng said four words, “Eat properly.”
Chu Mo frowned, “I need to reply to messages and emails…”
“It’s just one meal without handling work,” Chi Cheng refused to return the phone, “It’s not like you’ll lose millions, big boss.”
To become the “enemy of all Alphas,” Chu Mo had gotten used to working every second. Without a phone in hand, he found it uncomfortable to eat.
“I’ll give it back after you finish,” Chi Cheng raised an eyebrow, a mischievous smile tugging at his lips, “Be good.”
Chu Mo shivered. “Say those two words again,” Chu Mo gritted his teeth, “and I’ll dump the food on your face.”
Chi Cheng only laughed more, showing his two tiger teeth, “Then you better eat more, so you have the strength to do it.”
Chu Mo couldn’t do anything about him, glaring at him before lowering his head to eat. Without a phone, Chu Mo’s attention was focused on the taste. He wasn’t used to eating without his phone, but he had to admit, this was the most enjoyable meal he’d had.
Meanwhile, Xie Songchen lay on his dorm bed, looking at his phone. An hour ago, Xie Songchen had sent a message to Chu Mo, asking if he had finished work. Chu Mo hadn’t replied.
After showering and tidying up the space under his bed, Xie Songchen absentmindedly played a game with his roommate. He checked his phone again, but there was still no WeChat message.
Until bedtime, Xie Songchen repeatedly opened the WeChat chat box, but there was no reply from Chu Mo. He suspected his phone was malfunctioning, so he disconnected from the campus network and switched to mobile data. Refreshing WeChat, he still received no messages.
Holding his phone, Xie Songchen’s fingers tightened. After a while, he edited and deleted messages in the chat box, ultimately not sending a single word.
On Monday morning, worried about pheromone imbalance, Chu Mo got up early. He took out an inhibitor, quickly and accurately injecting it into his gland. The cold inhibitor made Chu Mo’s fingertips feel chilly.
Last night, the doctor diagnosed that Chu Mo’s pheromones might be imbalanced. Chu Mo immediately sent a message to his private doctor to schedule a check-up. After breakfast, Chu Mo drove alone to a private ABO pheromone hospital.
This private hospital, hidden in the city, specialized in ABO pheromone and gland treatment. The hospital’s medical level was high, but few knew about it; those who came were either rich or noble.
Wearing a mask and sunglasses, Chu Mo entered the hospital’s private consultation room as an Alpha. His private doctor, Xu Yi, was already waiting on the sofa.
Xu Yi, an Alpha, graduated from a prestigious foreign university. He wore gold-rimmed glasses, a white coat, had fair skin, and his hair was slicked back, exuding an elite aura.
“Long time no see, Mr. Chu,” Xu Yi greeted with a warm smile. Xu Yi was a few years older than Chu Mo but looked very young.
When Chu Mo’s differentiation had an accident years ago, Xu Yi was the only doctor present. At Chu Mo’s request, Xu Yi helped him conceal his secondary gender, publicly declaring Chu Mo as an Alpha. Without Xu Yi, Chu Mo’s true gender might have been exposed long ago.
Chu Mo briefly described last night’s events to Xu Yi. Xu Yi frowned slightly, saying, “Long-term use of inhibitors does have a risk of causing issues. Let me check your gland.”
With that, Xu Yi stepped forward, lifting Chu Mo’s collar. His gloved fingers brushed over Chu Mo’s neck. He carefully examined Chu Mo’s gland, his brows furrowing, his expression becoming serious.
“You’ve used too many inhibitors,” Xu Yi said solemnly, “And you’ve been using them daily for nine years. Your gland has developed resistance to them.”
Chu Mo’s eyes widened in shock, “Resistance? Will the inhibitors stop working?”
“Initially, it will cause slight pheromone imbalance,” Xu Yi explained word by word, “Eventually, the inhibitors will fail, and you won’t be able to control your heat period.”
Chu Mo swallowed, feeling cold in his limbs. He looked at Xu Yi and asked, “How much time is left before the inhibitors fail?”
Xu Yi’s eyes flashed with surprise. He hadn’t expected Chu Mo to insist on using inhibitors despite the situation.
“Based on my experience,” Xu Yi pondered for a moment before saying, “You have at most three months.”
Chu Mo breathed a sigh of relief. Three months was enough time for him to complete the storyline. Once the main character and supporting characters became big shots, he could return to the original world. Then he wouldn’t have to suffer the hardships of an O pretending to be an A anymore.
Looking at Chu Mo, Xu Yi said seriously, “You really shouldn’t continue using inhibitors.”
But Chu Mo replied, “Dr. Xu, keep it the same, keep it a secret until three months later.”
Xu Yi was taken aback. After a moment, he gave a helpless smile, “Is the identity of an Alpha really that important to you?”
Xu Yi knew that many families only allowed Alphas to be heirs. But it was the first time he’d seen someone like Chu Mo, who had persisted in using inhibitors for nine years. He was almost like a monk.
Chu Mo nodded, “Important.”
Hearing this, Xu Yi didn’t persuade further, only telling Chu Mo, “Keep an eye on your health, and contact me anytime if anything happens.”
After the check-up, Xu Yi prescribed a box of strong inhibitors for Chu Mo. Xu Yi advised that if anything felt off, he should use the strong inhibitors to prevent any accidents.
Chu Mo thanked Xu Yi and left the hospital with the strong inhibitors. He needed to hurry and complete the storyline.
Half an hour later, Chu Mo arrived at the office before work hours. It was rare for him not to see Xie Songchen. A few minutes later, Xie Songchen arrived just on time. He had faint dark circles under his eyes, clearly not having slept well the night before.
Chu Mo looked at him and casually mocked, “Stayed up all night gaming? Don’t be too tired for work.”
Xie Songchen placed a prepared cup of coffee on Chu Mo’s desk. He looked up at Chu Mo, his tone calm, “Is there nothing you want to tell me?”
Chu Mo was taken aback. He didn’t understand what Xie Songchen meant.
Seemingly unintentionally, Xie Songchen continued to ask, “Did you get home late last night?”
Chu Mo hadn’t expected Xie Songchen to care about this. He couldn’t help but recall his earlier trip to the hospital. “Yeah,” Chu Mo thought briefly, deciding it was best not to tell Xie Songchen, “I went straight to sleep after coming back from the neighboring city.”
Hearing this, Xie Songchen simply said “Oh” and left the office.
After Xie Songchen left, Chu Mo began handling work messages. Last night, while Chu Mo was eating, Chi Cheng had “confiscated” his phone. It was the first time he realized that eating could be so relaxing. So, Chu Mo decided to keep his phone off all night, only turning it back on in the morning.
There were many messages Chu Mo hadn’t had a chance to look at. When Chu Mo saw the message from Xie Songchen sent last night, he was momentarily stunned.
[Xie Songchen: Is work over?]
The message was sent right when Chu Mo was at the hospital last night. Chu Mo wondered if he was seeing things.
In reality, Xie Songchen was very reserved, and even more so on WeChat.
The messages he sent Chu Mo, aside from work-related content, were just “Mm,” “Okay,” and “Received.”
Among a bunch of brief messages, this one seemed like a caring message, standing out awkwardly. Why did Xie Songchen send this message? Was it work-related? Then why not just say so?
Chu Mo was completely baffled.
Meanwhile, after some thought over the past two days, Chi Cheng decided to “turn over a new leaf.” He wanted to properly manage the Chi family’s business, so Chu Mo wouldn’t keep saying the Chi family couldn’t compare to the Chu family.
As “President Chi,” Chi Cheng went to work at his own company, ready to learn and handle various business matters. The first thing Chi Cheng did at the president’s desk was… find Shengmo’s email and send someone an email.
[Remember to take last night’s medicine. — Yunchi Group President Chi Cheng]
The title at the end was deliberately added by Chi Cheng. The sending email was his work email. But Chi Cheng didn’t know that Chu Mo’s emails were now handled by his secretary.
Sitting at his workstation, Xie Songchen rubbed his temples. Last night, he had waited for Chu Mo’s message, forgetting what time he fell asleep. At this moment, he felt a bit regretful, thinking that “waiting for someone to reply” was really foolish. Besides, what else could Chu Mo be doing besides work?
Xie Songchen felt his worries last night were unnecessary. He pushed the messy thoughts out of his head and focused on handling work emails.
Just then, a new email notification from a stranger suddenly popped up. Xie Songchen was startled. When he opened the email, his hand holding the mouse suddenly froze.
