Lil had informed the divine beasts in advance about the greenhouse construction.

As a result, a large number of rabbits and deer, representatives of the herbivores, had arrived. The winter food situation was more severe than Lil had expected. They had come to express their gratitude, hoping to have access to delicious fruits even in winter.

Even a bear had come, which was rare. It seemed they had come to help again, including the bear that had previously fought Maynard.

“I heard you’re building a greenhouse for the winter. Thank you so much. Especially for the deer—they suffer every year, and it’s hard to watch.”

Lil’s idea was a salvation for the weaker divine beasts.

As Lil was talking with everyone, Maynard woke up.

He was quite surprised by the army of deer and rabbits, but after hearing the circumstances, he became even more motivated. He enthusiastically declared that they would make a magnificent greenhouse.

The greenhouse this time was a prefabricated structure. The glass had been fitted with metal frames in advance, and by connecting those frames, the greenhouse would take shape.

The glass had been enhanced with magic for insulation and durability, making it a luxury item. Ian had applied for funding, stating it was for the divine beasts’ winter needs, and the budget had been approved.

Additionally, this initiative had been discussed at a meeting, and it was decided that similar greenhouses would be built at other Knight Commander bases as well.

For the first time, Lil received an official request from the country as an interpreter. The task was to ask the birds of the forest to spread the word to divine beasts in other locations, informing them that food would be available at the base during winter.

Upon making the request, the hawks readily agreed. They, too, cared about the herbivorous ones.

Lil received a generous reward. It felt strange to be paid just for talking to divine beasts, but it showed how important they were to the country.

Lil decided to shift their perspective—interacting more with the divine beasts and working to strengthen the bond between them and humans.

Maynard and the bear worked on assembling the greenhouse. The glass panels were too heavy for Lil to assist with, and even Gloria wasn’t needed this time.

Instead, Lil and the others cheered on the assembly work.

Watching them install the roof was nerve-wracking. Dropping such heavy materials would be disastrous.

Thanks to the bear’s help, the greenhouse was completed in about an hour after breakfast. When Lil stepped inside, it was properly warm.

The rabbits and deer were overjoyed, running around the greenhouse in excitement.

Once the greenhouse was completed, the next task was to move in the potted plants.

Lil changed into the work outfit Rosaline had made. It was brown to hide dirt but had lace decorations, making it quite cute.

Lil had thought fruits were grown from seedlings, but that would take years. Fortunately, the country had provided already-grown potted plants, which they carried into the greenhouse.

The plants had been selected for easy cultivation, and the manual was thin.

Lil was free to grow anything else they wanted in addition to these.

Seeing that most of the provided plants were berries, Lil decided to grow apples. In Michiru’s memories, rabbits loved apples.

In addition to fruits, they would also grow vegetables, so soil was brought into the greenhouse.

They planned to cultivate carrots, lettuce, and komatsuna. These crops would be ready for harvest in about two months, and Lil was already looking forward to it.

The herbivorous divine beasts curiously peeked into the greenhouse.

Meeting their gazes through the glass was amusing, making Lil chuckle.

By the time all the work was done, it was evening. The knights who had been on patrol returned and praised the greenhouse. The rabbits clapped along with everyone, making for an adorable sight.

Lil thanked everyone who had helped and returned inside the base, while the divine beasts headed back to their homes.

Over dinner, Lil pondered if there was anything else they could do for the divine beasts. However, ideas didn’t come so easily.

“You don’t need to overthink it. Just consider it when the time comes. Everyone is happy as things are now, right?”

Marron reassured Lil to take things easy.

“Exactly. There’s no need to figure it all out alone. If you keep talking with us every day, you’ll surely come up with something.”

Kohaku added.

Lil realized that conversation was the most important thing.

After all, Lil was the only one who could communicate with the divine beasts. Worrying alone wouldn’t solve anything.

Lil vowed to talk with the divine beasts even more.
