She was planning to head to the back mountain and let her little one out for a walk.
If the little one could hunt for itself, that would be even better.
Along the way, Su Niannian relied on the bright moonlight and did not turn on her flashlight.
If someone saw a female educated youth heading up the mountain at midnight, it wouldn’t be a good look.
However, Su Niannian was brave and didn’t fear anything.
Moreover, with the space to protect her life, if danger arose, she could always hide inside and be safe.
It was still a bit chilly on this late April night, but the cool breeze brushing against her face felt quite refreshing.
Before long, Su Niannian reached the foot of the back mountain and began walking slowly up the slope.
In the forest, the sounds of insects and birds occasionally reached Su Niannian’s ears.
After walking for about half an hour into the mountain, Su Niannian finally took the little one out of the space.
The little one had originally been staring at a piece of pork, drooling.
It was thinking, should it eat it? Or maybe eat it?
Just as the little one was about to stretch out its claws to grab a piece of meat, everything went black before its eyes.
It had unexpectedly been pulled out from that vast white space.
Now, it appeared in the back mountain forest.
The light quickly dimmed, and its eyes needed a moment to adjust.
The little one was clearly dazed for a moment.
Su Niannian turned on her flashlight and waved it around.
Only then did the little one realize the person in front of it was Su Niannian.
It scampered over and nuzzled against her.
“Did you eat some fertilizer or something?!”
The last time they met, the little one was still about the size of a husky, but now it had already reached Su Niannian’s waist.
It seemed like it had grown as if fertilized with growth chemicals.
Su Niannian stroked the little one’s head.
“You’re already a mature little… big tiger now. You need to learn how to hunt for yourself!”
Huh? The little one seemed to understand from Su Niannian’s words—did that mean she no longer wanted to take care of it? Was she telling it to go find its own food?
“Tigers are born to be kings of the forest. Do you know Simba? He’s the king of the forest.”
Uh? After speaking, Su Niannian thought for a moment. Wasn’t Simba a lion?
No matter, they’re pretty much the same anyway!
Since the little one drank the spirit spring water, it had indeed become much smarter and could even understand Su Niannian’s words.
It just didn’t know who Simba was.
Seemingly understanding, the little one nodded its head.
Right, it would go hunting on its own and show its owner its impressive, graceful figure.
“Roar!” The little one arched its back and let out a tiger’s roar, leaping into the forest.
Meanwhile, about a kilometer away, Gu Nan was squatting on the ground, holding a wild rabbit in his hands and letting it bleed out.
He had first caught a wild rabbit, planning to let it bleed in order to attract wild boars.
Then, he heard a tiger’s roar.
Afterward, he noticed some faint lights flickering in the distance.
It seemed to be the glow of a flashlight.
Gu Nan couldn’t help but pause for a moment.
“Someone else is in the mountain this late?” He hadn’t expected that.
In fact, the back mountain wasn’t very safe. It was dense with vegetation and home to many wild animals.
Aside from wild chickens, rabbits, wild boars, and roe deer, it was said that there were also wolves, bears, and even tigers.
Though these larger animals usually resided deeper in the mountains, that didn’t mean they wouldn’t come down to the mountainside or foothills.
Since Gu Nan had been trying to hunt wild boars, he had ventured further into the deeper parts of the mountain.
He didn’t think anyone from Kaoshan Village would be bold enough to venture into the mountain at such a late hour.
It was indeed strange, but he decided to head toward the area with the light.
Not long after, Gu Nan heard the sound of a large animal running, its body brushing against plants, creating a rustling sound.
He couldn’t help but furrow his brow and pull a sickle out of his basket.
In this era, the flashlight’s beam had very poor penetration, which was why Gu Nan, with his keen eyesight, could just make out a faint light.
As for Su Niannian…
In front of Su Niannian, two wild rabbits were already placed before her.
The little one’s shadow disappeared again into the forest.
It had already returned twice, each time dropping a dead rabbit before running off again.
Its speed was so fast that Su Niannian could only catch a glimpse of its afterimage.
“This is too impressive! It’s running so fast?” Su Niannian was astonished.
Before this, whenever she saw a tiger, it was at the zoo, where the tigers were all lazily lounging around, waiting for their food to be thrown to them.
Now, it was as if this little one was giving her a live demonstration of what it truly meant to move like the wind—swift as a tiger, returning to the mountains, a hungry tiger pouncing for food.
Wild rabbits breed quickly, and with their agility and alertness, they could always be seen in the back mountains.
However, due to the rabbits’ quick movements, even if villagers spotted them, they couldn’t always catch them.
This led to more and more wild rabbits multiplying.
This little one wasn’t just capturing nothing; it had already caught three rabbits.
Just as the little one was about to drop the third rabbit and continue hunting…
Su Niannian sensed someone approaching.
It was only a distance of one or two hundred meters.
Worried that the little one might be exposed, she quickly withdrew the little one and the three wild rabbits back into the space.
The little one had been about to leap forward, ready to dash out, but before it knew it, Su Niannian had pulled it in without warning.
Inside the space, the little one, who had just been in the dark night, was suddenly thrust into a world of white mist, leaving it momentarily stunned.
Had its playtime just ended?
The little one was upset.
“Didn’t anyone praise me for being awesome? Didn’t anyone say how handsome I am?”
It just… came back?
Looking at the three dead rabbits on the ground, the little one began to gnaw at them.
However, the little one still had a bit of conscience and left one whole rabbit for Su Niannian.
Pouting, the little one strutted back to the mat Su Niannian had prepared for him, lying down with a helpless sigh.
On the other hand, Su Niannian could have returned to the space with the little one.
However, she thought that there probably wasn’t anyone from the village brave enough to venture into the mountain at night. If someone had ventured in and happened to encounter her… It might very well have been Gu Nan.
She hid beneath a tree that could conceal her figure, planning to see who was approaching.
If Su Niannian found that the person wasn’t Gu Nan, she would quietly retreat and leave the mountain.
If it was Gu Nan…
Hehe, so could she maybe do something?
Thinking this, Su Niannian’s lips curled into a sly smile.
Sure enough, as the figure approached, illuminated by the moonlight, the broad-shouldered, slim-waisted silhouette entered Su Niannian’s view.
With those long legs and tall stature, who else could it be if not Gu Nan?
The moonlight cast a soft glow on his side profile, highlighting the sharp jawline and those deep, dark eyes.
Gu Nan, having been in the military, wasn’t just skilled in combat; his powers of observation were also top-notch.
Just as he approached, the beam of his flashlight flickered a few times, which would have allowed him to notice if anyone was hiding behind a tree.
Gu Nan wasn’t sure who else would be up on the mountain at this hour.
He was prepared to circle around and investigate.
However, little did he know, the person had already hidden behind the tree, observing him carefully.
Just as Su Niannian was secretly pleased about getting a chance to sneak a look at Gu Nan, his figure suddenly vanished.
