Although the memories related to Zheng Xunqian remained incomplete to this day, after finishing this notebook, Jing Tian roughly understood the ins and outs of it all.
Zheng Xunqian was a bit shameless.
For a long time, Zheng Xunqian didn’t like him and didn’t give him face. Later, when he found out that Jing Tian liked him, most of the time he still ignored him but consciously kept him hanging, refusing to let him go.
What was Zheng Xunqian thinking at that time?
Jing Tian was deeply involved and unable to extricate himself. Every time he saw a glimmer of hope, he was too happy to think straight. Naturally, he couldn’t think clearly. Now that his perspective had changed a bit, he could vaguely guess some things.
To describe Zheng Xunqian with the vocabulary he recently saw on the internet, he seemed a bit two-faced, like a green tea, keeping him as a spare tire.
So, was he now “getting everything he wanted in the end”?
While Jing Tian was lost in thought, chatting with Zheng Xunqian on his phone with half-hearted attention, Yang Yue’s voice came from the other bed.
“Oh, by the way, there’s something I want to ask you about.”
Jing Tian immediately turned around, “What’s up?”
“About lu… About Shu Ziqin,” Yang Yue said.
To actually remember the full name was quite an achievement, indicating that their time together this afternoon was going well. Jing Tian turned around completely, adopting a serious expression to listen.
“Yeah, what about him?”
“Is he… ” Yang Yue hesitated, looking like he had something difficult to say, “Is he… in terms of personality… a little…”
Jing Tian became nervous for some reason, sitting up straight, “Is his personality not good?”
“It’s not that I’m saying he’s not good,” Yang Yue also sat up, running his fingers through his hair, “It’s just that sometimes he seems a bit… overly enthusiastic?”
“Oh, that’s true,” Jing Tian nodded, “Do you remember the first time you met him? Wasn’t it when you and I were both assigned to do chores by the teacher, and then you left, and he happened to pass by and offered to help? He didn’t complain at all and spent several hours helping out. He was super enthusiastic.”
Yang Yue seemed pensive, “You mentioned that to me before.”
“Yeah, I did. At that time, I wasn’t very familiar with him either, we only had a few classes together and didn’t have much contact,” Jing Tian said, “Most people would just offer some verbal consolation, right? I was quite moved by what he did that day.”
He didn’t know why Yang Yue suddenly seemed conflicted, but subconsciously felt that he should say a few good words for Shu Ziqin. After all, he hadn’t lied; Shu Ziqin occasionally did things that were laughable, but his character was definitely good. He was a gentle and kind boy, so there was no need to worry.
“Yeah, that’s true,” Yang Yue nodded, “So, he’s like that with everyone, huh…”
“What’s up?” Jing Tian was curious.
“It’s nothing,” Yang Yue smiled at him, “Did you two meet in class?”
“Yeah, I couldn’t find the restroom that day, so I was wandering around in the hallway, and he saw me and talked to me, showing me the way,” Jing Tian said, “He really helped me out.”
Yang Yue crossed his legs, hugged his chest, and nodded thoughtfully, “I see.”
“What’s going on?” Jing Tian was concerned.
“It’s nothing,” Yang Yue awkwardly scratched his head, “I guess I was overthinking.”
Jing Tian looked at him puzzled.
Yang Yue smiled at him and lay back down, “It’s nothing! You continue chatting with your boyfriend!”
Jing Tian blushed, thinking, How did you know I was talking to Zheng Xunqian?
He felt too embarrassed to say it, fearing Yang Yue’s answer would make him even more ashamed.
After lying down again, he picked up his phone, and the screen showed a message from Zheng Xunqian.
—”You still haven’t told me what you remembered.”
Based on Jing Tian’s experience, trying to brush it off wasn’t going to work. Zheng Xunqian was a very persistent person. No matter how the topic wandered, he wouldn’t forget his initial question and would always pursue it to the end.
After pondering for a while, he thought this might be another good opportunity to test the waters.
—”Some things that made me very angry.”
After a moment, Zheng Xunqian replied with three words that left Jing Tian speechless.
—”Don’t be angry.”
It was as if he had told Zheng Xunqian, “I suddenly got hungry at this time yesterday,” and Zheng Xunqian told him, “Don’t be hungry.”
Jing Tian didn’t feel like talking anymore. After about two minutes, Zheng Xunqian noticed his awkwardness and sent another message, this time with a much more sincere tone.
—”It’s all in the past now, let’s think of something happy.”
Jing Tian thought, Did anything happy really happen between us in the past?
For his past self, meeting Zheng Xunqian was akin to a disaster.
After staring blankly for a while, he realized that even though he said he wouldn’t delve into it, his subconscious was still preoccupied. At this moment, facing Zheng Xunqian, his mindset had become much worse, and he kept thinking of negative things.
Unrequited love was too bitter. Those bitter emotions overflowed from the crevices of his memory, making him melancholy and even more uneasy.
For the first time, he truly realized how much torment a distant and indifferent Zheng Xunqian had caused him.
Perhaps he needed Zheng Xunqian to immediately hug him, say some sweet words to him, and give him a kiss to make his mood sweet again, so he could reassure himself that it was all in the past.
He didn’t reply, and Zheng Xunqian answered his own question.
—”For example, after the day after tomorrow’s exam, where should we go for the weekend?”
Jing Tian’s understanding of dating was very shallow.
He lacked experience and could only think of things like having a meal together, watching a movie, or going shopping. If they wanted something more grand, they could visit an art gallery together or simply spend a day at an amusement park.
After considering for two days, his final answer was: any place was fine.
Zheng Xunqian, walking beside him, sighed helplessly and said, “Then let’s just go to the self-study room.”
Jing Tian hesitated for a moment and nodded, “Sure.”
As long as he was with Zheng Xunqian, he didn’t care where they stayed. It’s just that the self-study room had surveillance cameras, so they could only secretly hold hands and occasionally kiss. They couldn’t do anything too intimate.
Of course, going out on a date in public would also be inconvenient. Thinking about it, the so-called date didn’t seem very appealing.
Only staying overnight was something to look forward to.
Blushing, Jing Tian thought again, if they went to the study room for a date, wouldn’t there be no reason to stay outside?
“…Let’s change the location?” Jing Tian said.
Zheng Xunqian smiled, “Should I come up with an idea?”
“Don’t you have a bunch of ‘memorable places’?” Jing Tian said, “Don’t you have anything suitable?”
After thinking for a while, Zheng Xunqian asked, “Didn’t you say you remembered something before? Is there anything you’re interested in?”
Most of the scenes Jing Tian remembered happened at school.
Although there weren’t any places he was interested in, there were indeed things he was interested in.
He glanced at Zheng Xunqian from the corner of his eye and gestured with his hand, “Do you have a bookmark with a pretty… unique design?”
Zheng Xunqian was slightly surprised but quickly nodded, “Do you remember it?”
Jing Tian didn’t say anything.
On the night when writting in his diary, he lay in bed, recalling fragments intermittently. He inadvertently saw a pattern on Zheng Xunqian’s bookmark, secretly remembered it, and searched for help online, asking if anyone had seen the original image.
After receiving a high-resolution image from a kind person, he spent a week mentally preparing himself and finally tattooed that design on his skin.
He wondered what Zheng Xunqian felt when he first discovered this tattoo on his lower back.
“The bookmark is in the dorm, I didn’t bring it,” Zheng Xunqian said, “If you like it…”
Jing Tian looked at him expectantly.
Zheng Xunqian continued, “You can print one yourself.”
“…”
“But, there’s no need,” Zheng Xunqian added, “You already have it on you.”
Jing Tian didn’t want to talk to him.
As they talked, the two had already arrived at the classroom door.
Just as they were about to enter, Zheng Xunqian reached out and grabbed his wrist.
“Hmm?” Jing Tian looked at him puzzled.
Zheng Xunqian smiled at him and suddenly leaned down, lightly touching his lips, and said, “Good luck with your exam.”
“…”
This was the classroom building, bustling with people, and there were still classmates inside the classroom. Even though no one was deliberately looking at them at the moment, it was still in public.
Occasionally holding hands on campus had already made Jing Tian feel ashamed and uneasy, and such a bold move instantly left him stunned.
“Be sure to carefully read the questions later, take your time, don’t rush, and don’t get distracted,” Zheng Xunqian looked at him, giving careful instructions, “You can temporarily not think about me.”
Jing Tian’s mind was in chaos.
Originally, he didn’t need to think about it, but now, his mind was filled with thoughts of Zheng Xunqian. How was this helping?
“What’s wrong?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
Jing Tian lowered his head, blushing, “What if someone saw us just now?”
Zheng Xunqian was somewhat surprised, “You really mind?”
Jing Tian thought, I’m not like you, I would feel embarrassed. Then he thought, Zheng Xunqian really had thick skin.
Was this a form of disregard for others? Not caring about what others thought, so you could do whatever you wanted at any time.
It was admirable.
“…Remember to do it where there’s no one next time,” Jing Tian muttered softly.
Zheng Xunqian nodded indifferently, “We’ll talk about it next time.”
Seeing Jing Tian about to say something again, he approached once more and said, “If you complain again, I’ll kiss you again.”
“…” Jing Tian swallowed, “…it was your fault to begin with.”
Zheng Xunqian suppressed a smile, kissed him on the lips again, and said, “You say one thing but mean another.”
With a red face, Jing Tian turned around to enter the classroom. When he turned back, he met Zhao Qinqing’s astonished gaze.
The two stared at each other in silence for two seconds. Zheng Xunqian passed by Jing Tian and walked into the classroom.
Jing Tian smiled awkwardly at Zhao Qinqing. She snapped out of it, smiled back at him, then turned around and hurried into the classroom.
Jing Tian buried his head, thinking, if he didn’t do well on the exam, it would be all Zheng Xunqian’s fault.
