Chapter 3: Coaxing Him Back
“I won’t get a divorce,” Cen Wan said, her hand trembling slightly as she held the divorce agreement. “I’d rather die than get a divorce.”
She wouldn’t get a divorce. Heaven had given her a chance to love him properly, and she was determined not to let it go.
Lu Beixun looked at her, his eyes filled with an unclear emotion. After a few seconds, he turned and looked out the window, no longer looking at her. He said calmly, “After the divorce, the Cen family project will continue. You’ll get sixty percent of our shared assets. If the Cen family has any problems in the future, this money will be enough to help them through it.”
He called it sixty percent of their shared assets, but it was actually all Lu Beixun’s money. Even so, he still wanted a divorce. Cen Wan’s fingertips twitched as she stared at his tall back.
She was barefoot, and the coolness of the tiles seeped into her feet. In the past, even when they argued, he would carry her to put on her shoes. Now, she had been standing barefoot in front of him for a long time, and he saw it but didn’t care.
This Lu Beixun seemed to not want her anymore.
She took a deep breath. But what did it matter? She would love him instead.
In her previous life, she had suppressed her feelings for him deep down. In this life, she wouldn’t suppress them anymore. She would love him properly.
She walked to Lu Beixun’s side, stood beside him, and looked out the window. Then, she turned her head slightly to look at him. “Lu Beixun, I don’t want a divorce…”
“I don’t want any of the assets. I just want you.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Lu Beixun’s dark eyes, fleeting and subtle. Cen Wan didn’t notice. “Sign it.”
Cen Wan was stunned for a moment, then she had an idea. She covered her stomach with both hands, her face scrunched up in pain. “Ouch, my stomach hurts. I must have eaten something bad.”
She had to get out of there. The sudden divorce caught her off guard, and she needed to think of a plan.
“I’ll go back to my room and lie down. We can talk about the divorce another day.”
“It hurts so much, I can’t take it anymore.”
With that, Cen Wan ran up the stairs, back to her room. She closed the door and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
This Lu Beixun was very insistent on divorcing her.
After a long time, she didn’t hear any movement. Thinking that Lu Beixun had left, she opened the door and quietly left her room. She looked downstairs and saw that Lu Beixun was still there. Aunt Yang was standing in front of him, and she didn’t know what they were talking about.
She hid in a place where they couldn’t see her and listened intently.
Lu Beixun: “My wife likes to go barefoot. Remember to remind her to wear shoes.”
Aunt Yang: “Yes.”
Lu Beixun said again: “She likes to sleep in. Make sure to wake her up for breakfast.”
Aunt Yang nodded, her expression a little worried. “Sir, I just heard Madam say her stomach hurts. Should I call the family doctor to take a look?”
Lu Beixun’s eyes held a hint of amusement. “No, she’s faking it.”
“Ah?” Aunt Yang didn’t understand. Lu Beixun had already left with the divorce agreement.
Cen Wan hid upstairs and snickered. Lu Beixun must still care about her. If he didn’t love her, why would he say so much to Aunt Yang? Why would he give her half of his assets?
He knew she was faking it but didn’t expose her.
Aunt Yang brought a cup of hot water upstairs. Seeing the person huddled in the corner, she was startled. “Madam, what are you doing?”
Cen Wan stood up. “Nothing.”
“Madam, your stomach?” Aunt Yang was worried and came up to ask about her condition.
“I was faking it.”
Aunt Yang: “…”
What were these two people up to?
Cen Wan took the hot water Aunt Yang had poured for her and went back to her room. Back in her room, she changed clothes and went back to the Cen family home.
As soon as she entered the house, her parents hadn’t reacted yet. Cen Wan rushed into their arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
Cen’s father and mother were taken aback for a moment. When they realized what was happening, they thought she had been wronged and couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. They quickly comforted her. Cen Wan was like a little princess at home, pampered by her parents, afraid that she might fall.
Cen Wan sniffed and didn’t want to worry her parents too much. “I’m fine. I just haven’t seen you in a long time, and I miss you.”
Cen’s mother: “Didn’t you see us three days ago?”
Cen Wan wiped her tears on Cen’s mother’s clothes. “It wasn’t three days, it was three years. Time flies.”
Cen’s mother lightly flicked her nose. “You little rascal.”
Cen Wan looked up. “Where’s my sister?”
Cen’s mother looked at her helplessly. “You’re so silly. Of course your sister is at school at this time.”
Her sister, Cen Luo, was a year younger than her. They were born from the same womb. Cen Luo was a straight-A student, while she was a slacker. She had graduated from a junior college.
Her parents often said that the two sisters were so different. One was a straight-A student, loved by teachers from a young age. The other was a slacker, like a little hooligan, hated by teachers.
“My brain isn’t working properly,” Cen Wan said, acting cute in Cen’s mother’s arms. “I want to eat Mom’s cooking.”
Cen’s mother got up. “I knew it. You little glutton. I’ll go make some for you.”
“Thank you, Mom.” Cen’s mother went to the kitchen. Cen Wan’s expression immediately turned serious. She looked at Cen’s father. “Dad, someone has embezzled company funds and leaked company secrets. Do you have any suspects?”
Cen’s father looked at her. “Why are you asking this?”
Cen Wan said directly, “It’s Cen Xiu. He never treated us like family. The gentle and jade-like appearance he shows us is a disguise. Dad, you have to be wary of him.”
Cen’s father paused for a few seconds and nodded. “Dad knows.”
Cen’s father wasn’t without his suspicions about Cen Xiu, but he couldn’t find any evidence. The person was very clean, leaving no trace. Besides, Cen Xiu was raised by him, and he believed in his character.
As long as there was no concrete evidence, Cen Xiu would always be his son.
Cen Wan reminded him a few more times.
Cen’s father listened attentively. Cen Wan and Cen Xiu had a good relationship, so good that Cen Wan unconditionally trusted Cen Xiu. Whatever Cen Xiu said was what she believed. The fact that she suddenly said this must have a reason. She must have discovered something.
Cen Wan held onto Cen’s father’s arm and leaned on his shoulder, acting cute. No matter what, she would do everything in her power to prevent the Cen family fire a year later. Cen Xiu had such a big plan, he couldn’t possibly not show his hand. She would definitely find evidence and make him pay.
She would repay Lu Beixun’s life. She would make Cen Xiu pay for the lives of her parents and sister.
Hatred flashed in her dark eyes.
Cen’s father asked, “You were crying so hard just now. Did Lu Beixun bully you?”
Cen Wan suppressed the hatred in her eyes and smiled. She shook her head. “No, I told you, I missed you and Mom. Why don’t you believe me?”
“Lu Beixun didn’t bully me.” Cen Wan lowered her head. “It’s me who made him sad.”
Lu Beixun wouldn’t bully her. It was she who was deceived and hurt his heart.
Cen’s father patted her shoulder. “Lu Beixun is a good man. You should cherish him.”
Although he used some tricks, he truly loved her.
“I will.” She would do anything for him. “I won’t let him be sad anymore, because I love him too.”
She had lunch at the Cen family home and stayed until three in the afternoon before returning home.
At seven o’clock that night at the Lu mansion, Cen Wan took a bath and lay in bed. She thought about how in her previous life, she and Lu Beixun had been married for a year, but they had never slept in the same bed. It was truly a regret in life.
She looked at the space beside her and sighed. She really wanted to sleep with Lu Beixun, but he wanted to divorce her now. What could she do?
In her previous life, she had stayed in this villa alone and didn’t feel anything. Now, staying in this villa, her heart felt empty and a little scared.
She got up, changed clothes, and took her bag out of the bedroom. As she went out, she happened to run into Aunt Yang. Aunt Yang asked her where she was going and offered to send her with the driver, but she refused.
She walked a few steps and then came back, standing in front of Aunt Yang. “Aunt Yang, do you think Lu Beixun still loves me?”
Aunt Yang sighed. “Madam, do you need to question Mr.’s feelings for you?”
Cen Wan understood. Love.
She smiled at Aunt Yang. “I’m going to coax Lu Beixun back.”
Before Aunt Yang could react, she went straight to the parking lot and drove away from the Lu mansion.
After Lu Beixun left the Lu mansion, he lived in a villa area near the company. The company was in the city center, and the villas in that area were not cheap. They were only affordable by the rich and powerful.
Half of the villas in the entire villa area were empty.
As soon as she reached the entrance of the villa area, she was stopped by the security guard. Fortunately, her father had bought her and Cen Luo a villa each in this villa area when she was twenty years old. They had only looked at the houses and never lived in them. She gave her name, and the security guard went to check if it was true. Ten minutes later, the security guard confirmed that she was the owner and let her in.
Lu Beixun had brought her here once when they first got married, so she knew where the villa was.
She walked into the villa through the black, openwork gate. She didn’t see Lu Beixun in the living room. Uncle Zhang heard the noise and came over. “Madam, how did you come here?”
Uncle Zhang had originally been at the Lu mansion. When Lu Beixun left, Uncle Zhang went with him.
“Uncle Zhang, I’m looking for Lu Beixun.”
“Sir hasn’t come back yet.” Uncle Zhang’s face was full of joy. Sir would be very happy to know that Madam came to find him.
Cen Wan told Uncle Zhang not to worry about her. She sat on the sofa and waited for Lu Beixun to come back.
