Chapter 71: Got Tricked

After unlocking the intelligence, Wang Zhi immediately opened the information.

“Using a stun grenade can disable a zombie’s movement. The effect can last up to one minute.”

Wang Zhi felt a wave of frustration as he read this. He had been tricked! Not only would using a stun grenade attract even more zombies, but it merely immobilized them? Wouldn’t it be more efficient to just throw a grenade and blow them up instead?

“I want a refund!”

Unable to hold back, Wang Zhi shouted at the staff inside the intelligence hall.

“This intelligence is flawed! It’s a scam! Clickbait! Fraud!”

“Apologies, but virtual transactions are non-refundable. All intelligence is reviewed before approval. If it passes review, it is deemed reasonable,” the staff member explained.

“But… this garbage information costs 200 survival points?! My survival points weren’t just blown in by the wind, but they sure are being taken away like that!” Wang Zhi complained.

“We’re really sorry, but intelligence is like a mystery box—it may not always meet expectations, and you have to take the risk yourself.”

“Fine, I get it.”

Wang Zhi wasn’t upset about the 200 survival points. What frustrated him was that he had paid a stupidity tax. Knowing that arguing further wouldn’t change anything, he left the intelligence hall.

“Fatty, if you want to laugh, just do it. Don’t hold it in.” Wang Zhi turned to Fatty, who had been desperately suppressing his laughter along the way.

“Pfft—hahaha! I can’t! This is too funny—HAHAHA! Captain Wang, you—hahaha!”

Several times on the way back, Wang Zhi wanted to punch the laughing Fatty, but his ribs were still sore, so he could only walk ahead in silence.

They bought six meals and returned to their residence.

Even as they ate, Fatty would randomly let out chuckles, clearly still amused by what had happened earlier. Wang Zhi finally snapped.

“Ying-jie!”

Su Muying, who was eating, looked at Wang Zhi in confusion after hearing him call her name.

Seeing Wang Zhi call Su Muying, Fatty immediately panicked and admitted defeat.

“Captain Wang, I was wrong! Don’t do this!”

Su Muying glanced between the two, puzzled by what was going on.

“Fatty said he wants to see you in black stockings,” Wang Zhi said nonchalantly, completely ignoring Fatty’s desperate protests.

“Pfft!”

Zhang Yang, sitting nearby, choked on his food and immediately buried his head in his meal.

“Oh?”

Su Muying’s gaze locked onto Fatty.

“Ying-jie! Let me explain! Captain Wang is trying to frame me, use a borrowed knife to kill, and pull a Straw Boat Borrowing Arrows move!” Fatty protested.

“Then tell me—why would Wang Zhi frame you?”

“He woke me up early to…”

“Ahem!!”

Before Fatty could finish, Wang Zhi coughed loudly, signaling him to stop.

SLAM!

Su Muying slammed her dagger onto the table. “Continue.”

“Wang Captain dragged me to the intelligence hall to post new intel. After we were done, we checked out intelligence on dealing with zombies… then he got scammed. I laughed, he got mad, and now he’s getting revenge on me,” Fatty confessed honestly. Between offending Wang Zhi and Su Muying, he’d rather offend Wang Zhi.

Impulse is the devil.

Wang Zhi regretted it. What started as a simple prank to shift the blame onto Fatty had completely backfired. Now, everyone at the table knew he had been tricked.

Su Muying’s attention shifted from Fatty to Wang Zhi.

“Uh… Ying-jie, I’m injured. Please stay calm…” Wang Zhi quickly pointed at the bandages on his chest, using them as his last defense.

“So… the one who actually wants to see black stockings is you?” Su Muying asked teasingly.

“No, no, no! I was just voicing Fatty’s inner thoughts. It doesn’t represent my own opinion.”

“Suspicious!”

Out of nowhere, Jia Liuli chimed in.

“Hey! You little brat, eat your food!” Wang Zhi shot back at her.

“Wang Zhi, as a man, you should take responsibility for your actions. Stop making Fatty take the fall for you. Even if Fatty has lustful thoughts, does he have the guts to act on them?”

As Su Muying spoke, Fatty nodded furiously in agreement.

“Ying-jie, you are absolutely right!”

At this moment, Wang Zhi felt utterly wronged. His original plan had been to provoke Su Muying into targeting Fatty, but now it had completely backfired, making him look like a pervert obsessed with black stockings.

If he continued to argue, things would only get worse. So, he took a deep breath and said:

“Fine. I admit it. I want to see them.”

As soon as he said it, a heavy silence fell over the table.

The meal suddenly felt oppressive. No one spoke, and everyone just focused on eating as quickly as possible.
