A Military Marriage: Five Years Apart—The Delicate Beauty Joins the Army with Her Child Chapter 50

Chapter 50: Can It Be Tonight?

Deputy Battalion Commander Li’s mother-in-law really did have the surname Tian, confirming it.

Gu Weicheng’s expression darkened as he said, “Wife, from now on, no matter who it is, if it’s something you don’t want to do, just refuse them outright. This Xiao Li, really… his mother-in-law actually came looking for you? Tomorrow, I’m going to ask him if he even knows about this.”

Seeing that Gu Weicheng was upset, Li Xia reassured him, “They’re about to get married. If you bring this up with him now, and it causes a fight between the couple right before their wedding, that wouldn’t be good. I’ve already turned her down anyway. When we go to their wedding together and his mother-in-law sees me, she’ll understand on her own.”

Many of the soldiers under Gu Weicheng’s command were still single. Xiao Li, at twenty-six, had struggled to find a match.

This time, he had finally met someone through a social gathering, and their relationship was going well.

Gu Weicheng had met the woman before—she was reasonable and well-mannered, quite different from her mother.

Even so, Li Xia’s feelings mattered most to him.

He paused his work, looked at her carefully, and asked, “You’re really not upset?”

“Not at all. That old madam was rude, and I didn’t hold back either. She didn’t get anything out of me,” Li Xia said, shaking her head.

“She truly wasn’t bothered—she had stood her ground without hesitation. On the other hand, Old Madam Tian had ended up red-faced, pointing at her but unable to get a word out. She had probably been fuming.”

Seeing that Li Xia was genuinely unbothered, Gu Weicheng nodded and said, “Alright, then I’ll listen to you.”

After he finished speaking, Gu Weicheng remembered that Li Xia had mentioned she had plans on Sunday. He couldn’t help but ask, “Wife, you said you have something to do on Sunday. What is it?”

Li Xia glanced at him but kept him in suspense. “It’s a secret for now. You’ll find out when the time comes.”

After all, attending the wedding banquet was just a dinner—she would have time.

But looking at the puzzled expression on this man’s face, did he really not know what day it was?

Gu Weicheng truly had no idea. Li Xia’s secrecy only made him more curious.

The key point was that even An An seemed to understand, which meant that in this household, he was the only one left in the dark.

After dinner, while Li Xia was taking a bath, Gu Weicheng turned to An An and said, “An An, do you know what Mommy was talking about earlier? Tell Daddy—I promise I won’t let Mommy know.”

An An spread his hands helplessly and said, “Daddy, Mommy specifically told me not to tell you. There’s no point in asking me. Besides, if Mommy finds out you tried to ask me in secret, what if she gets mad?”

Gu Weicheng definitely didn’t want to upset Li Xia.

He immediately said, “Okay, Daddy won’t ask anymore. Just don’t tell Mommy about this.”

With that, he went back to painting the walls.

Watching Gu Weicheng’s retreating figure, An An covered his mouth and giggled quietly.

Hehe, An An knew that Daddy was most afraid of making Mommy mad, so bringing up Mommy was the most effective tactic.

Nowadays, bathtubs were becoming popular, but Li Xia found them too small and shallow, with insufficient water capacity.

So, Gu Weicheng found an old craftsman in town who specialized in making wooden bath barrels and had one custom-made for her.

Soaking in a bath barrel was similar to using a bathtub—maybe even more comfortable.

Bathtubs were made of porcelain, which felt icy cold against the skin, but bath barrels were made of wood, which didn’t feel cold at all.

After a long, relaxing soak, Li Xia was about to get dressed when she realized she had only brought a top with her—she had forgotten to bring her pants.

“Weicheng, Weicheng…” Li Xia called from the bathroom.

Gu Weicheng vaguely heard Li Xia’s voice. His hand paused mid-brush, and he quickly stepped into the courtyard. “Wife, what’s wrong?”

“Um… I forgot to bring my pants. Can you bring them to me? The black ones,” Li Xia said, feeling a little embarrassed.

It was perfectly normal for a husband to hand his wife clothes, but since she and Gu Weicheng had yet to truly live as husband and wife, moments like this still made her feel a little shy.

“Alright.” Gu Weicheng pressed his lips together, quickly washed his hands clean, and went to fetch the pants.

He returned shortly, standing at the bathroom door. His voice was low and slightly hoarse. “I have your pants.”

The next moment, the door was opened a crack from the inside by Li Xia.

Inside the room, Li Xia had already stepped out of the bath barrel. She was wearing a light-colored blouse.

Having just washed her hair, the damp strands were still dripping water. The blouse wasn’t long enough, only reaching the tops of her thighs, leaving her fair and slender legs exposed.

Through the narrow gap in the door, Gu Weicheng could even catch a glimpse of the color of Li Xia’s underwear.

Gu Weicheng’s mind went into disarray, and he immediately averted his gaze.

He felt like he was about to catch fire.

Li Xia took the pants and immediately shut the door. Only after putting them on did she step out from inside.

She didn’t notice anything unusual about Gu Weicheng and called out, “Weicheng, help me dry my hair.”

Every time she washed her hair before, it was always Gu Weicheng who dried it for her.

“Alright,” Gu Weicheng responded, picking up a dry towel to help Li Xia dry her hair.

But it didn’t take long before beads of sweat began dripping from him onto Li Xia’s slender arm.

Li Xia looked up at Gu Weicheng with a puzzled expression. “Weicheng, why are you sweating? Is it that hot today?”

The sky had already darkened, and the sun had long set—it wasn’t very hot anymore.

She reached out to wipe the sweat off Gu Weicheng’s face, but her gaze accidentally swept over the area between his legs. The spot that was usually only slightly raised now looked particularly… excited!

Although Li Xia had never dated a boyfriend before, she had read plenty of those kinds of books. After all, she had spent quite some time browsing certain Taiwanese websites—so she immediately understood what was going on.

Gu Weicheng was… having a reaction to her?

It was probably when he handed her the pants just now…

She had been living on base with him for quite a few days now. Though they hadn’t taken that final step yet, their daily interactions had long settled into the rhythm of an old married couple.

When she asked him to pass her the pants, she hadn’t thought much about it. But now, looking back, her blouse barely covered anything—he had probably seen her underwear…

Li Xia’s face turned a deep shade of red.

Gu Weicheng saw that Li Xia had noticed, and his face instantly flushed red—even his neck turned crimson. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to…”

He felt as though he had somehow offended Li Xia, but at the same time, he simply couldn’t control himself. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t calm down.

Li Xia, however, understood that this was just a normal physiological reaction. In fact, it wasn’t just Gu Weicheng—sometimes, she experienced it too.

“It’s okay, you don’t need to apologize,” Li Xia said gently.

“This is completely normal. If you had no reaction to me at all, then you should be apologizing—because that would mean you don’t like me in the slightest.”

Meeting Li Xia’s calm yet tender gaze, the guilty expression on Gu Weicheng’s face gradually faded.

In a low voice, he murmured, “I thought you’d call me a pervert.”

In these times, social norms were strict—even between husband and wife, public displays of affection were rare.

Li Xia reached out and cupped his handsome face, gazing into his deep, well-defined features. Then, she spoke, enunciating each word clearly:

“Weicheng, between husband and wife, this isn’t being *improper*—it’s love. Love is what makes us desire each other. Just like how I also have these desires for you.”

Gu Weicheng’s eyes lit up, his face filled with joy. “Really?”

“Really.” Li Xia nodded without hesitation.

Gu Weicheng craved her body, and she craved his. They were legally married—it wasn’t something to be ashamed of.

She didn’t tell Gu Weicheng that just a few nights ago, she had even dreamed about him in that way.

Having desires—wasn’t that completely normal?

“Wife… then, tonight… can we?” Gu Weicheng’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
