Emerging onto the sea surface, the Skull Ghost Ship was retracted into the system backpack by Gu Rong, and everyone returned to the helicopter.
The sea surface returned to calmness; the terrifying waves from before seemed like just an illusion.
It was already evening now. The Whale of Dawn continued its repetitive leaping, emitting cries like weeping and complaining. In the distance was the setting sun, its sunset glow like residual blood, dyeing half the sky red.
Looking at the scene before them, everyone felt a false sense of peaceful years.
“Truly didn’t expect the Living Sea Dead Realm could be diluted to the point of disappearing,” Major Mu lamented.
Regarding Gu Rong and Lin Xuezhou’s ability to bring them out of the Living Sea Dead Realm, the three NPCs – Major Mu, Dr. Bai, and Elder Hopu – though surprised, didn’t find it impossible.
After the apocalypse, many people awakened special abilities. This was a world mixed with zombies, power users, and Mutants; nothing was truly strange.
Gu Rong sat in a seat, dangling his little feet, holding a bottle of milk to drink. The others were still reeling from the shock, yet this little cub was already drinking milk.
Everyone glanced at him, speechless and choked up.
This little cub, truly, under no circumstances does it affect his eating. As if he’s been hungry for ages.
The helicopter continued flying over the sea surface.
After the violent turbulence earlier, the cannon fodder group of four had woken up, each looking bewildered, unsure of what had happened. Mu Xingye, however, was still deeply asleep.
Shen Hanxiao smiled: “Little ghost, what kind of sleeping pill did you feed him? He still hasn’t woken up after all that?”
Gu Rong sat cross-legged on the seat, holding the milk bottle in one hand, a straw sticking out of his mouth. With his other small hand, he held up five fingers, then retracted three, making a “peace sign” gesture. In his milky voice: “Bad guy uncle sleep… twenty hours!”
Bad guy uncle?
Like Xie Lingjiu, Shen Hanxiao, and Zhuang Yu were also silent for a moment.
Just then, Elder Hopu smiled faintly: “The Revelation page has appeared.”
Through the porthole, everyone followed his gaze and saw that the helicopter had already flown near the whale. And as they approached, the whale’s belly actually emitted a faint fluorescent glow.
The page glows when near another page.
There was a page inside the whale’s belly.
Everyone widened their eyes, staring fixedly at the continuously leaping whale.
Gu Rong was short. He took off his little shoes, stood on the seat, and looked towards the Whale of Dawn. Seeing the whale’s belly glowing, Gu Rong pointed his little finger.
Immediately, Hopu frowned again: “But, the time the Whale of Dawn falls is the day humanity is destroyed. If we take the Revelation page, the Whale of Dawn will fall. At that time…”
Everyone looked at Hopu. Hopu was the Prophet; he could glimpse heavenly secrets.
Major Mu’s expression was grave: “Why will taking the page cause the Whale of Dawn to fall?”
Hopu looked up at the endlessly galloping Holy Horse in the sky and said, “I think the other page, if nothing unexpected happens, should be inside the Holy Horse. Like the Whale of Dawn, the Holy Horse also relies on the Revelation page to operate ceaselessly.”
Take the pages, the whale and horse fall, and humanity is destroyed. Don’t take the pages; in two days, humanity will still perish. It seemed humanity’s demise was already a fixed outcome.
The pages were visible but couldn’t be taken. Everyone was caught in a dilemma.
Wu Yao said, “Collecting all of Revelation can save the world. Can’t someone just take the pages from the whale and horse at the same time?”
Hopu shook his head: “The Revelation pages can only be obtained by the Little Savior.”
Hearing this, everyone simultaneously looked towards the round-headed little dumpling. Gu Rong’s eyes blinked rapidly, his little face innocently bewildered.
006 said: [Little host, the whale and the horse are too far apart. It’s impossible to take both pages at the same time.]
Gu Rong asked in his milky voice: [Then what do? Can Zaizai use Copy Card, copy big whale?]
006 said: [Copy Card can only copy inanimate objects. Besides, even if you copy the whale, without the page, it can’t keep jumping on the sea surface.]
The page was related to the task and couldn’t be copied.
They were stuck in a deadlock again.
Major Mu sighed: “Since the page locations are confirmed, let’s return to Paradise first, report to the General, and then decide.”
–
Before returning to report to Feng Ting, Major Mu had the helicopter detour to take a look at the Holy Horse. The Holy Horse was above Paradise. Although said to be in Paradise, it was still a great distance away.
After approaching the Holy Horse, the horse still maintained the same apparent size as from afar, not following the perspective rule of “near objects appear larger, far objects smaller.”
Sure enough, upon getting close to the Holy Horse, its belly also emitted a faint fluorescent glow. There was also a page inside its body.
Confirming this situation, Major Mu had the helicopter take everyone back to Paradise.
Major Mu and Hopu went to report to Feng Ting. The others were taken to the dining hall to eat. Mu Xingye was still deeply asleep and could only be carried to a room. Xie Lingjiu glanced at him expressionlessly.
Paradise had clear class divisions. The upper level’s infrastructure was better than the middle and lower levels, but the food in the dining hall wasn’t much different.
Gu Rong looked at the dinner. It wasn’t that he disliked it, just strange: “Why pork rib congee again?”
Gu Rong had eaten pork rib congee yesterday, and also pork rib congee back at Oasis Laboratory. The fruit was just apples.
The players also noticed; the food in this world was extremely monotonous. Meat consisted of eggs and pork, fruit was apples, coarse grain was corn. As for vegetables, they hadn’t seen any. Coming to the upper-level dining hall, besides corn, the pork rib congee had two stalks of small green vegetables and some chopped scallions.
Xiao Lin also followed the group to the dining hall and explained with a smile: “You might not know, after the apocalypse, food became scarce. The main crops grown are corn, apples, and rapeseed. Other crops are extremely difficult to grow successfully.”
“Usually, we rely on nutrient solutions. But what can you do? Humans, no matter the era, find it hard to give up the desire of the palate.”
No wonder it’s said that, among the seven emotions and six desires, appetite is the most ferocious.
Only the last day of the instance remained. Everyone looked at the pork rib congee but had little appetite.
Gu Rong wasn’t picky about food. With a small bib tied around his neck, holding a spoon in his small hand, he ate large mouthfuls with great relish.
The others, lacking appetite anyway, unconsciously found their gazes all falling upon this little cub.
Gu Rong, being watched by everyone while eating, wasn’t affected at all. Strangely asked: “Why you all watch Zaizai eat food?”
Wu Yao pushed her portion in front of Gu Rong and smiled: “Little baby, sister gives this portion to you.”
Gu Rong accepted without ceremony, thanking sweetly: “Thank you, sister!”
Wu Yao said: “You’re welcome.”
Xia Wan also pushed her portion to Gu Rong, but she didn’t say anything. Gu Rong thanked her just the same: “Thank you, sister!”
Xia Wan paused slightly, saying awkwardly: “…You’re welcome.”
The cannon fodder group of four, being people who hugged Zaizai little leg, how could they fall behind? They all wanted to give their portions to Gu Rong.
Zhuang Yu stopped them: “Can’t eat anymore. Eating too much is bad for digestion.”
The others could only give up.
Gu Rong patted his little tummy and said: “Tummy not full!”
Zhuang Yu smiled and ruffled his little head.
Shen Hanxiao looked towards Lin-dalao and said: “Dalao, since you can mentally control seawater movement, can you also control that horse and whale, move them together?”
Since Gu Rong was only one person and couldn’t be in two places at once, just move the two places together, and the problem would be solved.
Hearing this, everyone looked towards Lin-dalao.
Lin-dalao, however, said: “After using it once, it requires a 48-hour cooldown.”
Now, only the last day of the instance remained; they couldn’t wait 48 hours.
Wu Yao looked towards Xie Lingjiu and said: “If I remember correctly, Xie-dalao also cleared the ‘Cave Monster’ instance before. Should have the same skill as Dr. Lin?”
Instantly, everyone turned their gazes towards Xie Lingjiu again. Xie Lingjiu’s face was calm, without waves. His head full of dreadlocks added an exotic charm to his handsome, refined face.
Xie Lingjiu said, “Players clear the instance in only two ways: obtain the Revelation pages or survive for three days. But…” He looked towards Gu Rong, the rest of his words unspoken but clear.
Everyone shifted their gaze back to Gu Rong, quickly understanding Xie Lingjiu’s unfinished sentence.
The pages were all taken by this little cub. According to that Prophet Hopu, the pages could only be obtained by this cub. Players couldn’t just wait for the cub to get the pages and then snatch them away, right? So, players could only rely on surviving three days to clear the instance. If they let the cub go get the pages now, who knew what would happen to the instance after the pages were obtained? Maybe it would end directly, and they wouldn’t be able to stay in the instance for three days.
Xie Lingjiu said: “Before sunset tomorrow, I will move the Holy Horse and the Whale to one place.”
Sunset tomorrow would be the end of the game. It wouldn’t delay Gu Rong’s task, nor would it affect the players clearing the instance. Killing two birds with one stone.
–
Having discussed the strategy, after finishing the meal, everyone returned to their respective rooms to rest. The night passed without incident.
The next morning, just as Gu Rong woke up, Major Mu and Elder Hopu knocked on his door again. It was already past nine o’clock; the two had been waiting outside for a long time.
Gu Rong put on his clothes and little shoes, ran deng deng deng to open the door.
“Little Savior, you’re awake,” Major Mu said with a smile. Hopu also smiled at the cub.
Gu Rong wasn’t fully awake yet, yawned, stretched lazily, and didn’t forget to greet politely: “Uncle Mu! Grandpa Hopu!”
Such a sweet-mouthed cub, calling everyone he meets. Who wouldn’t like him?
Major Mu and Hopu’s expressions instantly softened somewhat, their eyes looking at Gu Rong with more affection.
Major Mu said, “Little Savior, General Feng has already figured out a way to retrieve the Revelation pages. He specifically ordered us to come pick you up.”
Gu Rong tilted his little head, craning his little neck to look up at the two: “What way?”
Yesterday, Braids Big Brother said they had to wait until near sunset to get the pages, otherwise the players couldn’t clear the instance.
Major Mu took Gu Rong’s small, meaty hand, led him out of the room towards the elevator, preparing to take him to the top level. As they walked, he explained: “It’s very simple. The Whale of Dawn and the Holy Horse are in two different places. We just need to use spatial folding to pull them into the same location, and then the Little Savior can retrieve the pages.”
Gu Rong was utterly confused, not understanding what “spatial folding” meant. But he understood one thing: they were going to bring the big whale and the horse to one place now.
Then how would Big Brother, Little Brother, Uncle Doctor, and Sister clear the instance?
006 said: [Little host, maybe we should hide for a while first? Come out again before sunset?]
Gu Rong nodded his little head: [Okay!]
At this moment, the two adults and one cub had already entered the elevator. The elevator was outdoors, made entirely of glass. Through the elevator, the sky outside was exceptionally gloomy, covered in haze.
Major Mu pressed the button for the top floor. The elevator slowly ascended.
Two seconds later, Major Mu frowned, feeling something wasn’t quite right. He turned his head to look at Hopu; Hopu also turned to meet his gaze. Nothing abnormal.
After another two seconds, Major Mu squeezed his fingers – his palm was empty! The small, meaty hand he had been holding was gone! He looked down, then froze on the spot.
Wo cao, the Little Savior has disappeared!!
–
Gu Rong flapped his two small arms, flying downwards along the Paradise structure. Paradise was shaped like a vertical cylinder. Inside the elevator just now, Gu Rong could only use the [Hanged Little Ghost] identity card, pass through the elevator, and fly in mid-air.
Flying and flying, Gu Rong, a tiny little bundle, darted through the mid-air groves and flower clusters. Without looking carefully, his small figure was almost invisible.
Paradise soared high into the clouds. Gu Rong, being young after all, felt a bit afraid of heights, looking down. Scared!
Gu Rong flew with his eyes closed: [Zaizai scared!]
006 said: [Little host, fly without worry! I’ll watch the route for you! Clear path below! If there are obstacles, I’ll remind you!]
Gu Rong: [Okay!]
Gu Rong continued flying downwards. Passing by a pine tree extending out from Paradise, his small body got snagged directly. His little arms flailed, but he hung there motionless.
Gu Rong belatedly opened his eyes. Just wondering why 006 hadn’t warned him about the tree, he turned his head and met the eyes of another three-year-old cub.
Gu Rong: ?
Gu Rong: ??!
Lord Devil!!!
Lu Li sat on a tree branch, still in those black robes with wide sleeves, embroidered with dark gold cloud patterns, the hem fluttering slightly in the wind. Atop his head were two fuzzy animal ears. His skin was pale, almost transparent, features exquisite, with an aura powerful and dangerous.
He had merely extended one finger, lightly and deftly hooking Gu Rong’s collar from behind, holding him suspended in mid-air. Like holding a small pendant, even swinging him slightly.
Lu Li wore a half-smile, leisurely watching this little dumpling, saying one word at a time: “Little follower, we meet again.”
