Chapter 8: No One Wants Him, I Do
Looking at Xie Qingyun’s warm and friendly smile, Jian Ruo Ci felt a sense of comfort towards this girl. She moved aside, making room for her. “Please come in. Thank you for your help.”
Xie Qingyun entered the house with her medical kit, smiling. “No problem.”
Jian Ruo Ci: “Have a seat.”
Xie Qingyun sat on the sofa, and Jian Ruo Ci poured her a glass of water.
Xie Qingyun glanced at the furnishings in the house. The apartment wasn’t big, just two bedrooms and a living room, but it was clean, tidy, and decorated warmly. She saw the suit hanging on the coat rack and a meaningful smile curved her lips. She said, “I’ll be here every morning at ten to help you with your medicine for the next week.”
A week…
Jian Ruo Ci: “That’s not necessary. It’s too much trouble for you.”
She didn’t like to trouble others. Troubling others meant owing them a favor.
Xie Qingyun laughed. Her smile was like a little sun. “It’s fine. I’m a doctor, but I don’t have a fixed job. I’m free all day.”
She thought of something and smiled, continuing, “Besides, you’re someone Pei Yan Zhou cares about.”
She felt that the girl in front of her seemed quite familiar with Pei Yan Zhou. She didn’t want to pry into their relationship, but after a struggle, she couldn’t help but ask, “You and him… are you close?”
“As close as can be.” Xie Qingyun said.
Jian Ruo Ci’s expression changed subtly, and Xie Qingyun caught it. She smiled and explained, “There are some things about Pei Yan Zhou’s privacy that I can’t tell you. But I can tell you for sure that the only person he cares about is you.”
Jian Ruo Ci’s cheeks flushed slightly. She explained so much, and the teasing smile on her face made it seem like she was jealous.
She explained, “He and I are not… that kind of relationship.”
Xie Qingyun chuckled softly and didn’t say anything. Not now didn’t mean not ever. She knew Pei Yan Zhou fairly well. Once he set his mind on something, he wouldn’t easily change it.
Xie Qingyun finished applying the medicine, and Jian Ruo Ci tidied her clothes. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Xie Qingyun got up and prepared to leave. She looked at Jian Ruo Ci, a meaningful smile on her face. “If you want to thank someone, thank my brother. He asked me to come.”
Jian Ruo Ci pursed her lips and nodded. She said, “I still need to thank you.”
After Xie Qingyun left, she stared at the suit on the coat rack, lost in thought. She looked at it for a while, then took the paper bag, put the suit in it, and went out.
The suit looked expensive. Some expensive clothes couldn’t be washed directly in water. She took the suit to a dry cleaner.
The dry cleaner told her to come back in two days to pick it up.
When she got home, Jian Ruo Ci took a box of milk and a small loaf of bread from the refrigerator. She ate a couple of bites and then buried herself in her drawings. She spent most of her time at home drawing. When she couldn’t get any orders, she would go out and do odd jobs.
She wasn’t against finding a regular job instead of just relying on commissions. She had submitted resumes and received recognition, but no one dared to hire her. Those people were bribed by Liang Jin Yu, and no one dared to offend her.
Later, she could only take orders on online platforms, using a virtual nickname. Only then could she get orders.
In the evening, the setting sun shone into the room.
She was still buried in her drawings when a ringing sound interrupted her. She glanced at the caller ID on her phone screen, hesitated for a moment, and then answered the call.
The call lasted only a minute. After hanging up, Jian Ruo Ci changed her clothes and went out.
The call was from Jian Sen Ran, asking her to come home for dinner. Jian Sen Ran’s intentions were clear. He said it was for dinner, but it was really to ask her some questions and warn her not to take anything from Jian Ying.
Now, she understood all the tricks and thoughts of her family.
When she arrived at the Jian family’s house, she was stopped by the bodyguard at the door. The bodyguard went to report. It was ironic. She had to be reported to enter her own home.
The bodyguard came out after reporting and opened the door for her to enter.
Walking into the living room, the three of them were enjoying themselves. They had already eaten half of their meal, and she stood in the living room. They only glanced at her indifferently and continued eating.
She stood there, waiting for them to finish their meal.
Half an hour later, Jian Sen Ran took a napkin to wipe his mouth, stood up from the dining table, and walked towards her.
He got straight to the point. “What’s your relationship with the CEO of Jing Che Group, Pei?”
Jian Ying glanced at her and walked towards her as well.
“There’s no relationship.” Jian Ruo Ci said truthfully. “I’ve met him twice, and we’re not even friends.”
Jian Sen Ran: “Then at the banquet…”
Before Jian Sen Ran could finish, Jian Ruo Ci interrupted him. “I got injured at the banquet he hosted. It’s only natural that he took me to the hospital.”
“Then why did he carry you to the hospital?” Jian Ying raised her chin slightly. Recalling the scene from last night, she was so jealous she was about to go crazy. That was the man she had her eyes on.
The man she liked had directly ignored her at the banquet, walked past her, and held the woman she hated in his arms. How could she not be jealous?
Jian Ruo Ci’s face was cold. “I’m not him. You should ask him yourself.”
Jian Ying became angry. She pointed a finger at her. “What’s your attitude?”
“I’m just stating the facts.” Jian Ruo Ci looked directly at her.
Jian Sen Ran interrupted them. He looked at Jian Ruo Ci and said, “Xu Chen is a good man. You two should be together. Your sister has her eyes on the CEO of Jing Che Group. Regardless of your current relationship, break it off. Stay away from him.”
It was ridiculous to hear these words from her own father.
Song Xu Chen is a good man…
It was the funniest thing she had heard this year.
Her gaze was cold as she looked at Jian Sen Ran. “I will keep my distance from him. As for Song Xu Chen, if I told you he was cheating, would you still think he’s a good man?”
Jian Sen Ran sat down on the sofa, poured himself a glass of water, and took a sip. He said, “That’s normal. All men make mistakes. Don’t be so petty. The most important thing is to live a good life.”
These words shattered her worldview. So, this was his reason for having affairs even after becoming a father?
He had affairs everywhere, and her mother turned a blind eye. It wasn’t because her mother was magnanimous, but because she wanted her, who was still young, to have a complete family. At night, her mother would cry secretly. She had caught her a few times.
But what did her mother’s forbearance bring her? It brought her depression and she committed suicide by cutting her wrists in the bathtub.
She lost her mother when she was six years old. After her mother’s death, Jian Sen Ran brought Liang Jin Yu and her daughter home. When she saw Jian Ying, who was a year younger than her, she realized that Jian Sen Ran had already had a family outside.
Jian Ruo Ci looked at Jian Sen Ran and sneered. “Song Xu Chen and I are already over. I don’t have a masochistic tendency. I wouldn’t jump into a pit of fire knowing it’s a pit of fire.”
Liang Jin Yu walked over, her face full of malice. “Jian Ruo Ci, I don’t care what’s going on between you and Song Xu Chen. If you steal a man from your sister, I’ll make sure that bastard can’t go to school. Think carefully about it.”
The bastard she was referring to was Jian Xu.
Jian Ruo Ci’s hand clenched at her side, her nails digging into her palm. She hated it when people called Jian Xu a bastard. “He’s not a bastard. Jian Xu is my brother. If no one wants him, I will.”
Jian Ying snorted and crossed her arms, looking at her. “Is my mother wrong? Jian Xu will always be a bastard.”
Jian Ruo Ci’s eyes were icy, staring directly at Jian Ying’s face. “Jian Xu is a bastard, then what are you, Jian Ying?”
“Slap!” Liang Jin Yu slapped Jian Ruo Ci across the face. Jian Ruo Ci’s face burned with pain, and she heard a ringing in her ears.
Her eyes were bloodshot. She straightened up and slapped Liang Jin Yu across the face, using all her strength. “If Jian Xu can’t change the fact that he’s a bastard, then you, Liang Jin Yu, will never be able to change the fact that you’re a mistress.”
“A mistress will always be a mistress. Even if she becomes a wife, she’s just a fake.”
“Your daughter is also an illegitimate child who can’t see the light of day.”
“You may not have heard it, but the ladies in the upper circles have been gossiping about it.”
