Chapter 20: I’m Making You Sit in the Passenger Seat
Jingche Group Office.
Xie Qingyun was sitting on the sofa in the office, leisurely playing with her phone. Seeing that the person behind the desk didn’t speak for a long time, she turned off her phone and spoke first. “Big Brother, if you have something to say, just say it. Don’t waste my time chasing men.”
Pei Yan Zhou stood up from his office chair, walked to the sofa opposite her, and said calmly, “Any plans lately?”
“Plans?”
What plans could she have?
Xie Qingyun didn’t really understand what Pei Yan Zhou meant, but she had a feeling that his question was related to someone.
A woman.
She smiled. “No plans, but…”
“I have a date with someone on Wednesday. We’re going out to play, to the amusement park. Do you want to go?”
Pei Yan Zhou’s tone was cold. “No.”
Xie Qingyun pretended to be nonchalant. “Okay, then it’s just me and Ruo Ci.”
“Mr. Pei, the big CEO, work hard. Playing is for girls.”
Xie Qingyun silently counted to three.
When she reached one, Pei Yan Zhou spoke, uttering two words. “What time?”
It seemed like she still had to take the initiative.
Pei Yan Zhou was a workaholic. He would never put work aside on a weekday to do something unimportant. No one had ever been an exception to this in all these years.
No one had been an exception, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t one. Now, there was one.
She teased, “Mr. Pei, the big CEO, didn’t you say you weren’t going? Why did you suddenly change your mind? Could it be…”
Even if she didn’t say it out loud, Pei Yan Zhou knew what she meant.
His cold eyes swept over her. Xie Qingyun, who was about to say something else, was scared into silence.
She immediately put on a flattering smile. After all, she still needed Pei Yan Zhou to help her chase men. “Brother, just tell me. Is Ruo Ci the person you’re looking for?”
She had been with Pei Yan Zhou for so many years. He treated them like family. She had never seen him care so much about someone, especially a woman. She had only been in Beijing for a short time, and Jian Ruo Ci had appeared by his side.
Pei Yan Zhou’s voice was calm. “Hmm.”
She didn’t know what Pei Yan Zhou had experienced before going abroad, what his identity was. She had a feeling that it was all bad experiences, but Jian Ruo Ci was very important to him.
The few of them had a tacit understanding. Pei Yan Zhou didn’t say anything, and they didn’t ask. No matter what his identity was, what he had experienced, they only knew that they had survived those hard times.
“Brother, then help me set up a date with that man. He’s your employee. He won’t dare to disobey you. To show my gratitude, I’ll create opportunities for you and your wife, how about that?” Xie Qingyun wouldn’t miss any opportunity to chase men.
“Okay.” Pei Yan Zhou’s black eyes were unfathomable. “I need to remind you that Han Ji is not suitable for you. He doesn’t like you.”
Xie Qingyun rolled her eyes at Pei Yan Zhou. “How can you be like this?”
Actually, she knew in her heart that since Pei Yan Zhou could say that, the possibility of her and Han Ji being together was very small, almost nonexistent. But she refused to believe it. She had to try.
“But I like him.” She said. “Even if I hit my head against a wall until it bleeds, I won’t regret it.”
This was the first time she had liked someone so much. She couldn’t just give up because of one incompatibility. Besides, she wasn’t someone who gave up easily.
Pei Yan Zhou: “Try looking at the people around you.”
Xie Qingyun left the office and stood in the elevator. She racked her brains but couldn’t think of who Pei Yan Zhou meant by “the people around you.”
She only knew a few people, and Pei Yan Zhou was excluded.
Chi Yang is still abroad. He’s even colder than Pei Yan Zhou. He’ll only say one word when he can say two. He’s like a walking refrigerator. I feel cold just hearing his name. I’ll avoid him if I can. Rule him out.
Chu Ye has been back in China for about a month. I haven’t seen him once. He’s always hanging out in nightclubs. There’s no drama of being hurt by his white moonlight. He’s just a simple lecher. If I had to describe him as an animal, he’d be a teddy bear. Must be ruled out.
The other one is Jiang Zhi. We grew up together. Sometimes we’re like brothers, but we mostly bicker. That’s even less likely. If you asked Jiang Zhi to list my flaws, he could go on for three days and three nights without stopping.
Basically, we’re always arguing whenever we meet. There are 365 days in a year, and we’re arguing for 365 days.
Based on my analysis, Chi Yang and Chu Ye are impossible. Jiang Zhi is absolutely impossible. Even if the earth explodes and there are no men left in the world, those two are still impossible.
I don’t like men who are sleazy, trashy, and sarcastic. I don’t like men who hang out in nightclubs, and I don’t like men who are like refrigerators. I like men like Han Ji, who are gentle, considerate, and never get angry.
I can’t figure out what Pei Yan Zhou meant, so I’ll just stop thinking about it. I need to figure out how to quickly win over Han Ji.
I, Xie Qingyun, am an undefeatable cockroach. I’m prepared to be rejected countless times.
I won’t turn back until I hit the wall.
On Wednesday, Jian Ruo Ci got up, washed up, and put on light makeup. She had made an appointment with Xie Qingyun to meet at a specific location at ten o’clock.
At nine in the morning, Xie Qingyun sent her a message saying she was on her way.
Jian Ruo Ci changed into a wine-red hooded sweatshirt and a pair of loose jeans. She wore a pair of black leather shoes in a British style. She shed her usual coldness and replaced it with laziness, making her look softer.
The wine-red sweatshirt made her skin look even whiter.
She slung her bag over her shoulder and went out. She had just locked the black gate and turned around when a familiar Maybach stopped in front of her. The window rolled down, and she saw Pei Yan Zhou. She was shocked for a moment.
He was leaning lazily on the window with one hand, the other resting on the steering wheel. He turned his head slightly to look at her.
She stared at Pei Yan Zhou, bewildered. At that moment, the window on the back seat rolled down, and Xie Qingyun leaned out of the window and waved at her. “Sister-in-law…”
As soon as she spoke, she realized she had called her the wrong thing. She immediately corrected herself. “Ruo Ci.”
Actually, she hadn’t called her the wrong thing. It was only a matter of time before she had to change her address. She was just afraid of embarrassing her.
After all, girls are thin-skinned.
She looked at Xie Qingyun. Xie Qingyun said, “Ruo Ci, can my brother come with us? If you mind, I’ll make him leave now.”
She saw that Jian Ruo Ci was instantly a little guilty. She had made this deal with Pei Yan Zhou to chase a man. Now, she regretted betraying her friend for a man.
She would have to confess this to her when she had the chance. She would have to beg for her forgiveness.
Jian Ruo Ci’s eyes met Pei Yan Zhou’s. On Sunday, Pei Yan Zhou had carried her back to the room and covered her with a blanket. The ambiguous and intimate gesture had happened between them. Thinking about it, her cheeks flushed slightly.
She shifted her gaze uncomfortably and looked at Xie Qingyun. “I don’t mind.”
For some reason, she even felt a little bit happy.
She wondered, wasn’t he working? How could a CEO go out to play on a weekday?
“Good, you don’t mind.” Xie Qingyun shouted. “Get in.”
She was about to get in with Xie Qingyun, but when she got closer, she realized that there was a man sitting next to her. The man nodded slightly at her in response. She smiled politely.
“Sit in the passenger seat.” Pei Yan Zhou’s cold voice rang out.
“…”
Xie Qingyun looked at her and smiled apologetically. “Ruo Ci, I’m making you sit in the passenger seat. I want to be next to the man I like.”
Making me sit in the passenger seat?
Jian Ruo Ci looked at Pei Yan Zhou. His face changed, and his black eyes became even colder.
What was she waiting for? She had to get in the car now. Was she going to wait for him to lose his temper?
