Chapter 35: This is What We Call Mass Grinding

To be on the safe side, he allocated the remaining 10 attribute points into his constitution, bringing his physical defense to 256 and magic defense to 226.

With everything set, Wu Shaocheng moved closer again. Just as he was about to reach the attack range, he crushed the scroll. His defenses immediately doubled, bringing his physical defense to 512 and magic defense to 452, while also reducing nearby enemies’ physical damage by 50%. He then activated his speed boost and charged straight toward the bandits.

Soon, the bandits noticed the intruder. Arrows began flying at Wu Shaocheng, and upon impact, damage of -1 appeared—his defenses were holding. But before he could even celebrate, a barrage of fireballs came flying in.

“Damn! I forgot to factor in the skill damage!” Wu Shaocheng was shocked. Mages don’t have normal attacks, but the fireball spell is like a mage’s basic attack, with 120% magic damage. A few fireballs later, over a thousand of Wu Shaocheng’s health was gone.

Once you’ve committed, there’s no turning back. Wu Shaocheng gritted his teeth and popped a large health potion, regaining 100 health per second for 10 seconds. At this point, it was the best he could do. The main city had better potions, but he’d forgotten to buy them or simply didn’t feel the need, confident in his own abilities.

After finishing the potion, Wu Shaocheng pulled out a [Quick Recovery Potion] and gulped it down, restoring all his health. Then he continued charging forward. Fortunately, fireballs had a 3-second cooldown, and if the archers were as fast as the mages, he would’ve been done for.

As the bandit warriors and shield soldiers came charging at him, Wu Shaocheng pushed his speed to the limit, weaving past one melee bandit after another, heading straight for the enemy archers and mages. The melee bandits’ attacks only dealt a measly 1 damage per hit, a complete non-issue. Even though the bandits’ warrior skills could break through defenses, they were ineffective against his shield scroll, which reduced physical damage by 50%.

However, he had underestimated the threat of a full squad. Halfway through his charge, a shield soldier hit him with a shield bash, stunning him for 2 seconds.

“Son of a—! This is so annoying!” At that moment, the mage’s second round of skills arrived, and it wasn’t fireball this time—it was a freezing spell.

“Two skills? Damn!” Wu Shaocheng cursed, realizing that the freezing spell was about to hit him. He had no choice but to activate Void. This skill was powerful, but it had a 5-minute cooldown, so he usually saved it for emergencies.

Once activated, his body immediately entered a void state, removing the stun and allowing him to dodge the freezing spell.

In the void state, he quickly broke free from the encirclement and charged straight toward the mages.

The mages, surprisingly, had the sense to start retreating, but at Wu Shaocheng’s speed of over 300, it was impossible for them to escape.

He closed in on them and began dealing poison to each mage. At close range, the mages had little room to maneuver, making it difficult for them to target Wu Shaocheng as he dashed about. This gave him plenty of breathing room. Each mage took two poison stacks before fleeing. Since mages had less health than archers, two stacks were more than enough.

Soon, all 10 mages had two poison stacks, and in the process, Wu Shaocheng only took damage from three fireballs and one freezing spell. Although the freezing spell reduced his movement speed by 30%, his speed was so high that the impact was negligible.

After poisoning the last mage, Wu Shaocheng didn’t hesitate. He dashed out of the mages’ attack range and fled.

“Phew, that was close. I used a scroll and a recovery potion just to fight normal monsters. What a waste!” Wu Shaocheng grumbled.

He waited a minute and then returned to the bandit hideout. As expected, all the mages had fallen. Now that he had more than four minutes left on his shield scroll, and none of the remaining bandits could break his defense, he walked confidently into the bandit camp, heading straight for the archers. Although his speed boost was still on cooldown, his base speed was already over 200, and his attack speed was at 54%, so applying poison was quick.

It took him over a minute to poison all the archers. The shield soldiers and warriors kept blocking his way, and their shield bashes were a constant annoyance. Once the archers were dealt with, Wu Shaocheng continued poisoning the remaining bandits. With the speed boost active, he was able to quickly handle the rest.

After a while, almost half the bandits had been poisoned. Only about twenty remained, and most of the bandits that had been poisoned were already dead. The remaining bandits were no longer a serious threat.

“This is what I call mass grinding,” Wu Shaocheng muttered in awe.

He took a quick lap around the fallen bandits to check for any good equipment. To his surprise, among the loot, he found two pieces of black iron equipment. This made him feel quite lucky. From the amount of loot, it was clear that the bandits had a higher drop rate compared to other monsters. He also found a few silver coins—yes, silver coins, not copper coins! That made everything worth it.

He quickly picked up the black iron equipment and the silver coins, leaving the copper coins and low-quality loot behind. He had enough resources now to act a little more arrogant.

Looking at the remaining 22 bandits, Wu Shaocheng was a little worried. The bandits couldn’t be separated, and once they reached the hate range, they would all attack at once, which could be troublesome. Especially with shield soldiers capable of stunning him for two seconds, he didn’t have a scroll to protect him anymore. If he got stunned now, it would be hard to survive.

After checking his status, he realized that he had killed 124 bandits in just over 10 minutes. His talent, Fixed at 420, had pushed him to level 14. This meant he had reached a new tier, increasing his stats by 10 times, just as he had expected.

With his poison damage, he could now easily take down the remaining warriors and shield soldiers with just two stacks of poison.

“MD, what am I afraid of? I wiped out over a hundred, and now I’m scared of these twenty?” Wu Shaocheng said confidently.

With his speed and high defenses, Wu Shaocheng wasn’t worried about being surrounded. Even if he took hits, they wouldn’t do much damage. Shield soldiers could hit him for 400, but with his defenses, he would only lose 140 health. The warriors’ skills could deal more damage, but he could still tank it.

The key was to avoid getting stunned. If he got stunned, he would have to rely on Void again.

He quickly moved toward the remaining bandits. By the time he reached them, he was only facing four bandits: three warriors and one shield soldier. With his speed boost, he struck fast, applying two layers of poison to the shield soldier. The shield soldier didn’t use any skills, but two of the warriors did, and Wu Shaocheng took those hits, tanking them with his defenses while poisoning another warrior.

His health dropped to half, so he distanced himself and prevented the bandits from surrounding him. He then poisoned another warrior and ran off as the shield soldier prepared to use a shield bash.

By now, Wu Shaocheng realized that with his speed, he could dodge attacks. The shield soldier’s skill had a wind-up, and so did the warriors’ skills. As long as he paid attention, dodging became much easier.
