Chapter 59: The Ranking List Opens, Dominating the Charts
Wu Shaochen cast an Insight spell on the 21st-level Skeleton Warrior, which had 540 attack and 46,000 HP. Its skill was a ranged axe throw with 170% damage, capable of inflicting over 100 damage on him. However, it wasn’t suitable for group grinding. If a hundred of them threw their axes at once, he would have to retreat to the city.
Since he couldn’t grind in groups, he decided to pull them out one by one. Wu Shaochen wasn’t too bothered; after all, he had a bit of a mental block about group grinding and preferred to take it slow.
Back in the 11246 village, a girl with a pure and charming appearance was killed again by a rabbit. After being sent back to the city, she wore an expression of both stubbornness and frustration.
“Yo, isn’t this the pure jade girl from 11246 village? What’s up? Got killed by a rabbit again?” Several young men laughed when they saw her.
The girl ignored them and instead was deep in thought about the battle. It was her first time playing a game, and she didn’t know much about the mechanics. As a level 0 player, it was impossible to defeat a rabbit by herself. She just thought that it was because she was too weak.
“Come on, why act so high and mighty? Just call me ‘brother’ and I’ll help you level up,” one of them teased her, unwilling to let it go.
“No thanks,” the girl replied politely, before turning around to leave. At this moment, her private chat notification popped up, and she opened it.
“Miwei: Ziyin, why are you still level 0? Don’t tell me you’re too scared to fight monsters.”
The girl was none other than Wu Shaochen’s sister, Wu Ziyin. After entering the game, her first priority wasn’t fighting monsters but experiencing the realism of the game and exploring the scenery. As a first-time player, she was captivated by the air and environment of the game. She spent a long time enjoying the view before she remembered to level up, only to be repeatedly killed by rabbits.
Seeing her best friend’s message, Wu Ziyin felt a bit embarrassed. “At first, I was too scared, but later I got brave, but I’m too weak to defeat the rabbits.”
“Are you seriously trying to solo the rabbits?” Miwei replied with a shocked emoji.
“Isn’t it… not allowed?” Wu Ziyin asked in confusion.
Miwei: “Oh my god, you’re something else. Level 0 trying to take on rabbits solo!”
She continued, “In the early game, players are too weak to solo wild monsters. You need to find a team to fight together.”
“Oh, I see? A lot of people have tried to add me as a friend and offer to help me level up, but I don’t think it’s right to accept favors from strangers, and I feel like they have ulterior motives, so I turned them down,” Wu Ziyin responded.
Miwei: “Sigh, how do I explain this… Forget it. I still have some silver coins. Take them and buy potions. With potions, you’ll be able to fight the rabbits. But potions are expensive at the shop, and this amount of money might not even get you to level 1. I just sold all my equipment under level 10, or I’d trade it to you.”
After that, Miwei sent Wu Ziyin a remote trade offer and transferred all 14 remaining silver coins to her. This was all the money Miwei had after buying potions, and it wasn’t even enough for herself. Ordinary players could barely afford potions after fighting monsters, and it was hard to save up money.
Miwei: “This is all I have, so you’ll only be able to buy 70 potions with these 14 silver coins. That might not even be enough to get you to level 1. You should ask your brother for more, or with your reluctance to team up, you’ll never leave 11246 village.”
“Okay, thank you, Miwei.”
After receiving the silver coins, Wu Ziyin went to the shop. To her dismay, even the lowest-level red potion (small) cost 20 copper coins. She gritted her teeth and bought 70 potions before heading back out to fight the rabbits.
With the potions, she was finally able to defeat the rabbits. However, every time she fought one, she had to use a red potion, and Wu Ziyin couldn’t help but feel heartache. Each potion cost two yuan, after all.
While everyone was focused on leveling up, suddenly, a system-wide announcement echoed in everyone’s ears.
“System-wide Announcement: A player has reached level 20. The ranking list is now open. The 20-level dungeon, ‘Linlang Secret Realm,’ is now available. Players at level 20 can go and challenge it!”
The announcement echoed three times, shocking everyone.
“Damn, someone’s level 20 already? I’m still level 15!”
“Who the heck is leveling up this fast?!”
“You’re an idiot, just check the leaderboard!”
“Oh, right!”
Everyone immediately opened the leaderboard:
Level Ranking:
Reputation Ranking:
Equipment Ranking:
Money Ranking:
Pet Ranking:
Wu Shaochen also checked the rankings. Having just reached level 20, he was hit by the system-wide announcement. He didn’t even have time to react.
Looking at the rankings where he dominated all the charts, Wu Shaochen wasn’t excited but felt anxious.
“System, can you at least hide this information? I’ll get killed out there!” Wu Shaochen yelled into the air, but there was no response.
“This is too much,” he muttered. The leaderboard had practically exposed all his secrets, sending chills down his spine. He couldn’t shake the feeling that someone might target him. The only consolation was that the equipment and pets didn’t show ownership. Still, five of the top equipment items belonged to him, and he was sure that many people would envy him for it.
With the announcement, the chat in major cities erupted, and the forum was instantly flooded.
“Damn, this Chensheng is too OP, dominating three leaderboards! And he’s way ahead of everyone.”
“Seriously, if you think about it, the Soul Devouring Dagger, the first item on the equipment list, is probably his too. He’s an assassin, after all.”
“Also, the first pet, Silver Wolf, is probably his too. A friend from Jinling City saw a wolf-type pet following him, so it’s definitely Silver Wolf.”
“Damn, does that mean he’s dominating the entire leaderboard?”
“Did you check his gold coins? Over 700! Did he rob someone?”
“Wow, I didn’t notice that. How does he have so many? Our guild leader only collects dozens of gold coins a day!”
“Sigh, I’m lacking culture. Just… wow!”
“Chensheng, the god!”
