Chapter 1: Wen Yao, I thought You Were Sensible
“Anyone scratched by the R-type variant is a ticking time bomb, they could mutate at any time after half an hour, she can’t stay on the train!”
“But she’s our Vice Captain Wen, she got hurt protecting everyone! Do you even have a conscience!?”
“How am I heartless! This type of variant’s poison mutates quickly, it’s a one-man army, are we going to throw away the lives of the other 97 team members on this train?”
Inside a train carriage traversing the North Continent’s snowfields, two groups of people argued fiercely.
The subject of their dispute, Wen Yao, sat silently in a corner. Her long eyelashes drooped, and she used her long blade to slice open her arm, carving out the contaminated flesh.
No anesthetic, no painkillers. As the blackened flesh and blade fell to the ground, she let out a soft hiss, beads of sweat gathering on her forehead, tracing down her delicate and beautiful face, and landing with a “tap” on her leather boots.
Fang Lanyin couldn’t bear to watch, she took out the remaining gauze from the medical kit and went over, her eyes red: “Vice Captain Wen…”
Wen Yao, pale-faced, gave her a reassuring smile: “I… I’m fine.”
Fang Lanyin bandaged Wen Yao’s wound and asked Shen Yichuan: “Captain Shen, what do you think?”
Everyone looked at the other side.
The man leaning against the window wore a black combat uniform, his figure tall and straight, his sword-like brows and star-like eyes, coupled with his tough and sharp facial contours, gave him a cool aura, steady yet with a hint of ruthlessness and arrogance.
His expression was slightly gloomy, he hadn’t spoken, and everyone didn’t know what he was thinking. Most of those who supported Wen Yao getting off the train were even a little worried.
After all, Shen Yichuan and Wen Yao had been partners in life and death for many years, such a deep bond of friendship and righteousness, perhaps he would disregard everyone else’s safety and speak up for Wen Yao.
The train carriage fell silent.
Wen Yao heard Shen Yichuan’s name and couldn’t help but look up. Even though she knew he wouldn’t be biased towards her, in this desperate moment, she couldn’t help but have some hope.
However, Shen Yichuan didn’t look at her, he tossed the bullet in his hand, glanced at everyone, and his voice was cold: “For fairness, we’ll vote.”
The spark of hope in Wen Yao’s eyes instantly extinguished.
In this doomsday where everyone was in danger, who wouldn’t want to survive?
The voting result was unsurprising, 89:7, only 7 people agreed to let her stay on the train.
Shen Yichuan walked to Wen Yao and extended his hand: “Wen Yao, get off the team.”
Wen Yao met the man’s eyes, trying to catch something in them, but his eyes were black, cold and lifeless, as if without any emotion.
“…”
The train stopped, Shen Yichuan pulled Wen Yao off the train. Outside, the wind whipped up snow, biting to the bone.
He took her to a hill behind the train where the wind was relatively weak, and threw her a package: “Fire and three days’ worth of food.”
This was a heavy snow zone, with zombie hordes, the train was severely blocked, it would take three to five days to get back to the base. Wen Yao knew she didn’t have much of a chance of survival, and couldn’t help but ask Shen Yichuan: “What about your opinion? You haven’t voted yet…”
Shen Yichuan shot and killed a few remaining zombies with his gun, his voice deep: “Does my vote matter in this vote?”
Wen Yao looked at the familiar handsome face, couldn’t help but bow her head: “But Shen Yichuan, not just Mu Shengsheng, I’m also scared…”
Officially, he had to abandon her, but what about privately?
She felt that even if Shen Yichuan showed a hint of reluctance, a hint of unwillingness, she would be willing to stay here and wait for death.
But he didn’t, not only didn’t he, but he frowned: “You’ve been infected with the R-type variant’s poison, there’s a one-third chance of mutation, for safety’s sake, you can’t stay on the train.”
“Stay here and wait for me to come back.”
Wen Yao took a step forward: “Shen…”
Shen Yichuan looked at Wen Yao, who was clinging to him with reluctance, and suddenly pointed his gun at her forehead.
He suppressed the emotions he couldn’t bear to let go of, and said angrily: “This is an order.”
Wen Yao’s heart grew cold, she forced herself to suppress her grievances and weakness: “When the variant’s limb grabbed you, you protected others in the first place, what am I in your eyes?”
Shen Yichuan was in a complicated mood, but his tone was cold: “In a life-or-death situation, I don’t have time to be sentimental with you.”
“Base members are not allowed to have any personal relationships, don’t you understand? Mu Shengsheng is a new recruit to the base, as her trainer, I naturally have a responsibility to protect her.”
“You’ve been through hundreds of battles, you have to be petty with a new recruit?”
“Wen Yao, I thought you were sensible.”
Wen Yao’s eyelashes drooped, she endured and endured, but still couldn’t help but turn red-eyed, hot tears fell, turning into frost in the wind and snow.
Seeing that time was running out, Shen Yichuan didn’t say much, only said in a low voice: “Try to stay alive, you’re not that easy to die.”
Wen Yao watched the man’s back, and finally shouted to him: “If you find my family, be sure to protect them for me!”
But Shen Yichuan seemed not to have heard the words, his black figure quickly disappeared into the wind and snow.
“…”
…
Three days later, in the North Continent, a modified off-road vehicle was driving on the ice field.
The black-skinned man in the front seat opened the window and stuck his head out to look around: “Damn! There are so many headless zombies here!”
The red-haired woman driving next to him was annoyed by the noise, and slapped him on the head: “Shut your mouth! You’ve never seen a headless zombie before?”
The black-skinned man was wronged: “I mean, who’s so badass! They actually use a knife to kill zombies, and they killed so many!”
“Look, this is clearly a zombie horde coming, and then someone chopped them up one by one. The snow just stopped, and these haven’t been covered by snow, which means they’re all fresh…”
At this moment, the white-clothed man sitting alone in the back seat opened his smiling peach blossom eyes, as if expressing curiosity, he turned his head to look out the window, his tone lazy: “Using a knife…”
Di Dahu, the black-skinned man, saw his boss respond, and immediately got excited: “That’s right, these days everyone uses guns, who still uses knives!”
Ji Mingchen still smiled, he had a noble bearing, his skin was cold and white, his facial contours were like exquisite carvings, his features were stunningly beautiful, once he smiled, the whole person was better than a spring breeze, whoever saw him would be stunned.
His voice was as beautiful as his appearance, like a mountain spring, clear and jade-like: “I remember, there was one person, she was good at using knives.”
Mei Yasha, who was driving, also laughed: “Boss is talking about Wen Yao from the North Continent’s Thirteenth District, right?”
Di Dahu next to him interjected: “Her swordsmanship is indeed unparalleled, she led the team, and in recent years, she has snatched countless resources from us in the East Continent…”
“Slap—”
Before he could finish speaking, Mei Yasha slapped him again.
Di Dahu was even more wronged, he touched his head and said: “What did I do again!?”
Mei Yasha didn’t bother to deal with his low EQ, and continued driving, but when she looked back, she saw a black figure in the distance falling into her line of sight.
The person was dragging a silver long blade, his clothes were torn, and his whole body was swaying, as if he would fall with a gust of wind.
Di Dahu also saw it: “Black uniform with white markings, someone from the North Continent base? Hey, boss, he’s not dead, should I finish him off?”
Before he could finish speaking, he was slapped again, Mei Yasha slowed the car down, her expression serious: “Black uniform, that knife… Silver Moon Knife, is it Wen Yao!?”
“…”
Ji Mingchen suddenly raised his eyes, his smile froze instantly on his face, his peach blossom eyes narrowed slightly, his breath was dangerous and oppressive: “Stop the car.”
