The Supreme Toxic Lord of Online Games Chapter 91

Chapter 91: The Ghostly Pearl

At this moment, Wu Shaochen had no idea what was happening outside. He was staring at the ground with a pale face. Beside the corpse of the Night Lord was a single pearl and a symbolic token—nothing else.

“This is way too poor for a big boss that tormented me for hours. Just this?” Wu Shaochen complained.

Just then, the entire hall began to shake, as if it were about to collapse at any moment.

Wu Shaochen didn’t have time to complain any further. He hurriedly picked up the two items dropped by the Night Lord, then used a teleportation skill to rush toward the mechanism, quickly opening it. As he watched the stone door slowly open, Wu Shaochen increased his speed to the maximum and dashed out.

As soon as he left the hall, the entire building began to collapse, and it soon turned into ruins.

Looking at the ruins before him, Wu Shaochen couldn’t help but feel a little sentimental. He had been tortured inside for hours, and it nearly left a psychological scar.

Exhausted, Wu Shaochen took out a city return scroll and shattered it. He needed to go offline for some food; it was already past three o’clock, and he was starving.

As soon as he returned to Jinling City, he saw several private messages in his inbox. He opened them and saw messages from Leng Yue, Su Muxue, Wu Ziyin, and the newly added A-Tongmu. He opened each one, and they were all asking about his situation, along with some words of concern. Looking at the timestamps, they had been sent while he was in the hall.

“Could it be that messages can’t be received in the hall?” Wu Shaochen thought to himself. After considering this, he figured it must be the case and replied to each person briefly, explaining the situation before closing the chat interface.

He opened his inventory to check the items dropped by the Night Lord. After being tormented for so long, he was hoping these items would provide some surprises.

He first took out the token.

[Identity Token]: A token representing identity. Holding the token grants access to the Ghostly Realm.

“What is this…?” Wu Shaochen felt disappointed, quickly tossing it back into his inventory. Then he took out the pearl, and upon examining it, his eyes widened in surprise.

[Ghostly Pearl]: A treasure of the Ghostly Clan. The Ghostly Clan’s immortality is directly linked to the Ghostly Pearl. Five hundred years ago, the Ghostly Pearl was stolen by the Night Lord, a traitor from the Ghostly Realm, and has been missing ever since.

Attributes: ???
Requires a master to activate.

“This thing seems impressive, but I can’t tell its level. How do I recognize a master?” Wu Shaochen muttered. Just then, a system message appeared:

“Master recognition conditions have been analyzed. Would you like to recognize it? Note: This item is a treasure of the Ghostly Clan. After recognizing it, any encounters with Ghostly Clan members will result in being hunted by them.”

“Ah, more hunting?” Wu Shaochen sighed, feeling frustrated. Recently, he seemed to encounter these situations all the time. But with a powerful artifact right in front of him, he couldn’t ignore it. He decided to recognize it first, regardless of the potential consequences. He chose “Yes.”

“Master recognition in progress…”

Soon, Wu Shaochen noticed his HP rapidly depleting, causing him to panic. He was about to drink a potion when another system message came through.

“Beep! Master recognition of the Ghostly Pearl successful.”

Wu Shaochen breathed a sigh of relief. He nearly thought he was going to be drained. After checking his HP, he realized that the sudden drop had taken away 10,000 of his HP. Fortunately, his HP was high enough, or he would have been drained to death.

Looking at the Ghostly Pearl again, he realized that it was no longer in his hand. Instead, a small pattern appeared on the palm of his hand before quickly disappearing.

“Did it change after recognizing the master?” Wu Shaochen hurriedly checked his personal attributes, and indeed, there was a new entry under his personal status.

[Ghostly Pearl]: Has extremely strong restorative abilities.

Attributes:

  1. Revive: Revives at full health at the location of death. Cooldown: 2 hours.
  2. Recovery: Restores 5% of maximum HP per second.
  3. Ghostly Power: Killing monsters allows random collection of Ghostly Power. Using Ghostly Power can restore HP to yourself or allies. Each point of Ghostly Power restores 100 HP.

Seeing these attributes, Wu Shaochen became ecstatic. This was definitely a powerful artifact—this one item alone could be worth a whole bunch of other things.

“Time to log off and eat,” Wu Shaochen thought to himself. It was already very late, so he decided to log off and take a break.

After logging off, Wu Shaochen grabbed his phone to order food, but then noticed he had over ten missed calls. He opened them to see they were all from Wu Ziyin.

“I didn’t set it to silent… how come I didn’t hear the calls? Was I so tortured that I couldn’t even hear the phone?” Wu Shaochen thought to himself, quickly returning the call. Soon, he heard Wu Ziyin’s anxious voice.

“Bro, why haven’t you been answering your phone? I sent you messages in the game, but you didn’t reply. What happened? Why did you drop to level 0?”

“It’s nothing,” Wu Shaochen casually replied. “I ran into a nasty boss, but I’ve already taken care of it.”

“Really? What about your level? Don’t you have to level up again?” Wu Ziyin asked.

“Level? After I killed it, my level went back up. You can check the game if you don’t believe me,” Wu Shaochen explained.

“Is that so? I’ll log in and check right now,” Wu Ziyin said.

After hanging up, Wu Shaochen quickly went to a restaurant, ordered food, and sat down to browse the forum. Sure enough, he saw the whole forum discussing his incident of dropping to level 0.

“Heh, dropping from the top? Soon you’ll all know what an immortal assassin looks like!” Wu Shaochen smiled, then looked at his left hand. Suddenly, a small pattern flashed in his vision.

“Damn! No way!!!” Wu Shaochen jumped up from his seat, nearly knocking the table over. The cups and bowls on the table fell to the ground, shattering.

“What’s going on?” The restaurant owner hurriedly ran over to ask.

“Ah, nothing, nothing, I just got a bit too excited. I’ll pay for the mess,” Wu Shaochen quickly said, looking at his palm and thinking, “Was that a hallucination? I must have been playing too much. I need to sleep more often.”

The restaurant owner didn’t make a fuss, cleaning up the glass shards. Wu Shaochen picked up the shards and threw them away, but in doing so, he accidentally cut his finger. He sighed, “Guess I’ll buy some band-aids later.”

After eating, Wu Shaochen went to the pharmacy, bought some band-aids, and returned home. As he was about to remove the paper towel he had wrapped around his hand, preparing to apply the band-aid, he froze.

“Am I hallucinating again?” Wu Shaochen rubbed his eyes and stretched all ten fingers out. There wasn’t a single wound on them.

He picked up the paper towel from the floor, which still had blood on it, confirming that he had indeed cut himself. But how could there be no wound now?

Then, he remembered the description of the Ghostly Pearl: “Has extremely strong restorative abilities.”

“Heh, maybe it’s just a game effect. The wound wasn’t deep, so it healed quickly,” Wu Shaochen convinced himself with a weak excuse. He then put on his helmet and logged back in.
