Chapter 20: Waiting for Him to Eat
On the way to START Entertainment, Ji Xueli felt lightheaded and unsteady.
Damn it, Duan Qingyu really showed no mercy. He made her sleep on the couch, and when she woke up in the morning, she had fallen onto the floor.
“Xueli, why do you look so pale? You’re here to sign the contract with START Entertainment, shouldn’t you have put on some makeup?” her manager, Han Chen, noticed her worn-out appearance and couldn’t help but ask.
“I’m fine, just didn’t sleep well,” Ji Xueli replied, taking out a pair of sunglasses to hide her face.
Han Chen leaned in curiously. “But Xueli, how did you end up with START Entertainment? I thought you wanted to go solo.”
“It’s easier with a company,” Ji Xueli yawned without trying to hide it.
How did she end up with them? Well, it was all thanks to her persistence and shamelessness…
“That’s true, especially with a big company like START Entertainment. But, I’ve heard their boss doesn’t care about gender. We need to be careful,” Han Chen warned.
Doesn’t care about gender? Ji Xueli almost choked on the egg she was eating when she heard this. She coughed a few times. “Who are you talking about? Duan Qingyu?”
Han Chen saw her reaction and quickly patted her back. “Well, he’s the prince, after all. He even hosted the Grand Ball at sea. But don’t worry, you have the Ji family behind you, so you should be fine.”
“Those are probably just rumors…” Ji Xueli wasn’t convinced. It had to be just gossip, right?
“I don’t know, but even if there are rumors, there are still many people who want to get into the prince’s bed. After all, the Duan family is one of the four great families,” Han Chen said.
Ji Xueli nodded, suddenly having the feeling that her attempts might fail…
—
“This is the contract. If you have no objections, you can sign it now,” Duan Qingyu’s secretary, Zhen Zhang, handed them the contract.
Along the way, he couldn’t help but steal a glance at the soon-to-be comeback star. It was obvious that she wasn’t wearing makeup, but her skin was still fair and delicate. The sunglasses covered most of her face—she was an exceptionally beautiful woman.
No wonder Duan Qingyu had prepared a unique contract just for her.
Han Chen picked up the contract and began reviewing it with the lawyer next to him. Ji Xueli, feeling bored, picked up some fruit and casually asked, “Where’s Duan Qingyu?”
“Mr. Duan is in a meeting,” Zhen Zhang replied. He wasn’t surprised that she knew him but was surprised that she called him by his full name.
“When will it finish? I’ll wait for him to have lunch,” Ji Xueli said. Since she was already here, she might as well have a meal with him.
“Sorry, Miss Ji, Mr. Duan has lunch plans,” Zhen Zhang replied.
Ji Xueli, feeling reluctant, asked, “Who is he meeting? Cheng Du?”
“He’s having lunch with Mr. Ji Yanzhou,” Zhen Zhang replied. As someone in this position, he knew about the four great families.
Again, Ji Yanzhou? Ji Xueli took a bite of fruit, then said, “Then I’ll go too. I’ll wait for Duan Qingyu here.”
“Xueli, don’t forget, you still need to choose a script,” Han Chen, who had trembled when he heard Ji Yanzhou’s name, quickly tried to advise her.
“I’ve already looked at it. I’m choosing the second villain. I like it,” Ji Xueli casually told him.
Han Chen bit his lip, wanting to say something but not knowing how. Forget it, Xueli must have her own plans. If she sees the woman by Ji Yanzhou’s side, she might give up on him.
After the morning meeting, Duan Qingyu felt irritable. Those stupid old fools made him want to kick them all out immediately.
Zhen Zhang noticed his bad mood and cautiously spoke, “Mr. Duan… Miss Ji is inside.”
Duan Qingyu glanced at him but didn’t say anything, directly walking in. The scene before him was of Ji Xueli sleeping on the couch.
Her soft, fair face looked the same as it had when he woke up earlier, and she was sprawled in a careless posture.
Zhen Zhang watched Ji Xueli sleep and glanced at Duan Qingyu, noticing that his face remained unchanged, but he didn’t dare to relax his breath.
Duan Qingyu walked over and, without any pity, flicked her forehead.
“Ah!” Ji Xueli yelped in pain and instantly woke up. “Who hit me?”
She rubbed her forehead and sat up, only to see Duan Qingyu’s cold and aloof face. His voice was soft as he spoke.
“Are you trying to sleep on all my couches?” Duan Qingyu’s tone was light.
What does that mean? Zhen Zhang looked puzzled.
“Who told you to make me come here so early? I almost fell asleep on the couch,” Ji Xueli protested, rubbing her forehead.
“What are you doing here? The contract isn’t signed yet?” Duan Qingyu turned to look at Zhen Zhang.
Zhen Zhang hurriedly waved his hand. “It’s already signed. Miss Ji said she wanted to wait for you to have lunch together.”
“Mm.” Ji Xueli nodded heavily.
“I have lunch plans,” Duan Qingyu said, walking to his desk and sitting down.
“Then let’s eat together. It’s just one more person,” Ji Xueli shrugged, unconcerned.
Duan Qingyu looked at her and suddenly smiled. “I’m having lunch with Ji Yanzhou and his assistant.”
“I know, Zhen Zhang told me,” Ji Xueli responded nonchalantly.
Anyway, Ji Yanzhou was her childhood friend. Although his face could be a bit gloomy, she could tolerate him for Duan Qingyu’s sake.
Duan Qingyu fiddled with his pen in silence for a long time. Just as Zhen Zhang was about to open his mouth to advise Ji Xueli, Duan Qingyu spoke.
“Alright.”
Zhen Zhang widened his eyes. He saw Duan Qingyu curve his lips and add, “Let’s eat together then.”
Zhen Zhang suppressed his emotions and silently stepped out. He couldn’t quite understand why Ji Xueli wanted to meet with Ji Yanzhou. Why did she have to ask Duan Qingyu for help?
Could it be that Duan Qingyu liked Ji Xueli, and Ji Xueli was trying to get back together with Ji Yanzhou?
But Duan Qingyu could have any woman he wanted. Still, Ji Xueli was different from those women.
Sigh, the world of high society is a mess… Zhen Zhang sighed deeply.
