Chapter 38: Quite Vengeful
The next day, Cen Wan arrived at the company and saw Chang Ning calculating something. She glanced at it, put her bag on the desk, and casually asked, “What are you calculating?”
Chang Ning replied, “Money.”
She finished calculating and looked dejected, with a look of utter despair. Cen Wan asked, “Did you encounter any difficulties?”
Chang Ning leaned back in her office chair, looking at the ceiling, her voice sounding listless: “Yeah, I’m going to be broke…”
Cen Wan looked at her in confusion. Just as she was about to ask what happened, Chang Ning said, “I rear-ended someone. It was a Bentley.”
Bentley. Cen Wan’s first reaction was that a Bentley was fine. She asked, “Do you need help?”
Chang Ning waved her hand: “I can handle it.”
She knew that in Cen Wan’s eyes, a million-dollar Bentley was nothing, but for her, who drove a 100,000-dollar car, a car could make her go bankrupt and be heavily in debt.
Fortunately, it was just a scratch. Her wallet was doomed, but she wouldn’t be heavily in debt. It was just a matter of eating instant noodles for half a year.
Cen Wan prepared the materials she would need for the meeting later. Chang Ning arrived early and had already prepared everything. She said, “Do you know how much Assistant He earns annually?”
Cen Wan shook her head: “I’m not sure about that, but I estimate his annual salary is definitely no less than five million.”
He Yi’s work was different from ordinary employees. When Lu Beixun wasn’t at the company, everyone listened to his arrangements and orders.
Chang Ning sighed: “It’s really a case of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.”
Cen Wan looked at her sideways and blinked: “Why are you asking about He Yi?”
“Oh, the Bentley I rear-ended was his.”
“Ah?” Cen Wan felt a little unbelievable.
“Never mind.” Chang Ning organized the documents she had just printed: “It’s too heartbreaking to talk about.”
Cen Wan didn’t ask further. She thought to herself that these two people seemed quite compatible. Maybe fate would bring them together.
After the morning meeting, Lu Beixun looked at Cen Wan deeply before leaving the meeting room. He went upstairs to his original office with He Yi.
In the office, He Yi stood in front of the desk and placed a USB drive on the table: “Mr. Lu, this is the USB drive found at Jiang Yu’s hometown.”
The USB drive contained evidence of Cen Xiu’s actions against Cen Corporation. Lu Beixun plugged the USB drive into the computer. Besides the evidence, there was a video.
Jiang Yu appeared on camera: “I am Jiang Yu, the assistant of Cen Xiu, the deputy general manager of Cen Corporation. I’ve been with him for six years. I accidentally discovered his secret in Cen Xiu’s notebook and copied it to this USB drive.”
He paused and continued: “Three years ago, when Cen Xiu wasn’t the deputy general manager of Cen Corporation yet, he invited the former deputy general manager, Jing Ran, to go rock climbing outdoors. I went with them. During the climb, Cen Xiu and I pushed Jing Ran off the cliff and killed him. Cen Xiu successfully became the deputy general manager, and I received a large sum of money.”
“After discovering what Cen Xiu had done to Cen Corporation, I desperately needed money. I recklessly threatened Cen Xiu with this USB drive for money. He gave me money three times. The fourth time, I had a feeling he was going to do something to me. People who see the video might be confused. I knew he was going to do something to me, why didn’t I run? Because when I realized Cen Xiu was going to do something to me, I knew I couldn’t escape. His people were constantly monitoring me. As long as I did anything against him, he could kill me immediately.”
“If the evidence is insufficient, please pay attention to the last place I went before I died. I will leave evidence. Remember.”
The video ended. Lu Beixun’s fingertips tapped rhythmically on the desk.
He Yi placed a miniature camera on the desk: “This was found at the place where Jiang Yu drowned.”
Lu Beixun watched the video. His expression was unclear. In the video, by a secluded lake, Cen Xiu knocked Jiang Yu unconscious and pushed him into the lake.
Lu Beixun said faintly: “Go ahead.”
After He Yi left, Lu Beixun stared at the two pieces of evidence on the desk, which were enough to bring Cen Xiu down, and fell into deep thought.
At lunchtime, Cen Wan received a call from her subordinates, saying that someone had beaten her to it and hadn’t found any clues.
Cen Wan hung up the phone, not knowing what to think.
Chang Ning asked her what was wrong. She shook her head lightly. After a few seconds, she asked, “Will all the bad people in this world be brought to justice?”
“They will. What goes around comes around.” Chang Ning said: “Justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent. We must believe in the law, believe in justice.”
Cen Wan was comforted by Chang Ning’s positive words: “Hmm, I believe the law will never let a bad person go.”
In the evening, after dinner, Cen Wan was about to go upstairs to take a bath when Lu Beixun called her: “Wan Wan, come to the study after you’ve showered. I have something to tell you.”
“Oh, okay.”
After Cen Wan showered, she blow-dried her hair half-dry and went to the study in a wine-red nightgown. At the door of the study, she froze. After a few seconds, she reached out and knocked: “Mr. Lu, can I come in?”
Lu Beixun in the study chuckled helplessly and opened the door. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her in, his tone gentle and indulgent: “Wan Wan, you’re quite vengeful.”
Lu Beixun brought her to the desk. With a slight force, he hugged her and sat her on the desk. He propped his hands on either side of her, his lips curved into a smile, but it didn’t reach his eyes: “Wan Wan.”
“Hmm.” Cen Wan wrapped her arms around his neck: “What do you want to tell me?”
Lu Beixun just looked at her quietly. After a long time, he slowly spoke: “Do you trust me? Or do you really believe me?”
Cen Wan answered without a moment’s hesitation: “Of course I trust you.”
Then, Lu Beixun asked a question he had never dared to ask her: “Then, between me and Cen Xiu, who do you believe?”
She didn’t know why Lu Beixun asked this, but she knew that Lu Beixun must have struggled for a long time before asking this question. She also knew that he had always cared about this.
Cen Wan stared into his eyes, her gaze firm and serious: “I believe you, I believe Lu Beixun, I believe my husband, I believe my lover.”
Lu Beixun’s heart was filled. He reached out and rubbed her head. He took a USB drive and a miniature camera from the drawer and placed them in her hand: “The evidence you were looking for.”
“Evidence?” Cen Wan was stunned: “It was your people who got there first?”
Lu Beixun hummed in response: “It’s up to you how to handle it.” Even if you don’t have the heart to do it, it’s okay. I respect you.
Cen Wan used the computer in the study to carefully watch the evidence. She frowned and cursed: “He’s insane, he’s a beast.”
Cen Wan looked at Lu Beixun standing beside her: “Thank you, hubby. This evidence is very important to me.”
“Chang Ning is right. Justice may be delayed, but it will never be absent.”
With this evidence, she no longer had to worry about the fire a year later. Because Cen Xiu wouldn’t live to see that day. He had two lives on his hands, he committed intentional homicide, and he would be sentenced to death directly.
“Later, he went to threaten Cen Xiu again. Cen Xiu couldn’t stand it anymore and staged an accident to kill him.”
