Chapter 59: It Wasn’t the Coffee That Was Good

Logically, he should have driven back.

But where was he?

Fu Huayi stopped a comrade, “Have you seen Yi Yunshuo?”

“No, he went out last night.”

Yes.

Fu Huayi asked others; as he was asking, their superior called him over.

“Huayi, come here.”

Fu Huayi saw his superior beckoning him and jogged over.

“Do you know what happened to Yi Yunshuo?”

Fu Huayi was bewildered and shook his head, “I don’t know; I’m looking for him.”

“Hmph, that kid got into a fight last night and is at the police station.”

Fu Huayi: “…”

“The Chenshan Town Police Station called me to pick him up. Hmph, that kid is asking for trouble.”

Fu Huayi suddenly remembered that Yi Yunshuo had asked him to wait while he locked the car.

So… how did he get into a fight?

“Sir, I’ll go,” Fu Huayi said.

“You go? Alright. I have something to do.”  He didn’t want to be embarrassed; having someone else pick him up was convenient.

Fu Huayi, having received permission, went back to change into his uniform and quickly returned to Chenshan Town, heading straight for the police station.

There, he saw Yi Yunshuo, with dark circles and a bruised face.

Yi Yunshuo almost cried when he saw him.

“It’s you!  It’s good you came; the chief…”

Fu Huayi gave him a look, and he quickly shut his mouth.

He sat back down.

Fu Huayi showed his credentials to the police officer; they saluted each other before speaking.

“This comrade says he’s your friend, but he doesn’t have anything to prove his identity, so we’re not sure.”

Fu Huayi said, “We were on leave yesterday; he didn’t have any identification on him. But I can prove he’s one of our comrades. Here’s his ID.”

When he went back to change clothes, he also grabbed Yi Yunshuo’s ID.

The officer looked at it; seeing the matching photos, he believed Yi Yunshuo was indeed from a certain military district.

“See, I told you, but you didn’t believe me; you had to wait until morning to verify.”

“Comrade, we’re really sorry.”

Yi Yunshuo waved his hand, “It’s okay; it was a misunderstanding. Now you believe that car really belongs to my friend? His name is Fu Huayi.”

The officer had already seen Fu Huayi’s ID and compared it with the driver’s license in the car.

“Now you can prove those thugs were lying, right? They tried to steal my car and beat me up. I fought back in self-defense. If I hadn’t fought back, they would have killed me.”

“Okay.” Following the rules, those thugs would also be detained and have to pay compensation.

“Can I go now?” Yi Yunshuo asked.

“Just a moment; you’ll need to sign and fingerprint a document.”

“Okay.”

The officer quickly wrote down what happened and had both sides sign and fingerprint the document.

“Can I go now?”

“Yes. We’ll contact you about the compensation.”

“Alright, I’ll go then.” Yi Yunshuo pulled Fu Huayi, “Brother Yi, let’s talk later; I haven’t slept all night; I’m exhausted.”

“Wait a minute.” Fu Huayi looked at the police officer, “Comrade, please give me a copy of the mediation document; I need it for my report.”

“Sure.”

The officer tore off a copy, stamped it, and gave it to him.

Fu Huayi looked at it, folded it neatly, and put it in his pocket.

Yi Yunshuo left the station, patted his chest, and sighed in relief.

“It’s lucky you came to save me; if the chief had come, I would have been in trouble.”

“He didn’t want to come and be embarrassed.”

The truth was out; Yi Yunshuo was successfully released, but those thugs were in trouble.

Wandering around at night, stealing cars, and beating people.

They beat someone from the military district; they would all be eating government food now.

But the fact that they beat Yi Yunshuo was a more serious matter; they had to pay compensation.

The compensation would be given to Yi Yunshuo later.

“Hey, were you okay last night?”

“I’m fine.”

“Phew, I’m glad you’re okay. You don’t know; I was in there all night; I was afraid something else would happen to you.”

“What could happen to me, a grown man?”

“You never know. You were drunk; what if you fell asleep somewhere?”

“So what? A grown man wouldn’t run into thugs.”

Fu Huayi casually replied, “It was good, so I had a few more drinks.”

“To drink coffee.”

As they walked, Yi Yunshuo noticed Fu Huayi looking across the street.

Suddenly, he understood.

Fu Huayi didn’t bring him here for the coffee; it was because this spot was perfect for people-watching.

So, could it be… that he was drinking to drown his sorrows because of the person across the street?

He had known Fu Huayi for many years. During the two years of intense combat, they had shared life and death together, forming an unbreakable bond.

He could say he knew Fu Huayi very well; he understood him deeply.

He could guarantee that before this, Fu Huayi had never liked anyone. If it weren’t for his straightforward nature, he would even suspect there was something wrong with him.

Now he realized that this was how Fu Huayi felt when he liked someone.

“I say, Brother Yi, didn’t you resolve things with Xiaolin?”

Fu Huayi withdrew his gaze, awkwardly lowering his head.

“She’s clear and innocent now, hasn’t been married. If you really like her, just go after her. Why are you being so secretive about it?”

Fu Huayi kept his head down and sipped his coffee without replying.
