Chapter 26
She had unknowingly run near the grove where she had overheard Zhou Yuan and Jiang Cuihua’s secret rendezvous a few days ago.
Zhou Yuan was standing under a locust tree, his eyes leering up and down at her.
Zhou Yuan was not as easy to deal with as An Jinsheng, he wouldn’t listen to anything.
“Zhou Yuan, what do you want?”
“Oh, so the little beauty knows who I am, that saves trouble.” Zhou Yuan grinned, and continued, “I’ve taken a fancy to you, if I could marry you, it would be worth dying for.”
Song Shishi frowned, her hands behind her back, secretly gripping the dagger tucked at her waist.
In her previous life, Zhou Yuan had also harassed her.
But at that time, An Jinsheng was always around her, and Zhou Yuan never approached her after seeing An Jinsheng.
Thinking back now, Zhou Yuan probably didn’t do anything to her because he was afraid of An Jinsheng’s identity as the “son of a high-ranking official.”
But now An Jinsheng wasn’t by her side.
Zhou Yuan saw the vigilance in Song Shishi’s eyes, and became even more excited. He rubbed his hands and slowly approached.
“It was you who was eavesdropping outside the bamboo forest that day, wasn’t it?”
Zhou Yuan suddenly asked this, Song Shishi’s body stiffened for a moment, she stepped back, avoiding Zhou Yuan’s approach.
“Hehe, actually, even if it was you outside the forest that day, it doesn’t matter. As long as you become my woman, those things don’t matter.”
Zhou Yuan’s gaze was too brazen, making her want to vomit.
“Zhou Yuan, don’t you think about the consequences of your actions?”
Actually, Song Shishi knew that anything she said was useless, but if she didn’t say something to stall for time, she was afraid that Zhou Yuan would really pounce on her.
“What consequences? In Huaiqing Village, there’s nothing Zhou Yuan dares not do.”
Zhou Yuan’s eyes narrowed, he suddenly quickened his pace, grabbed Song Shishi’s arm, and dragged her into his arms.
“Little beauty, let your brother kiss you… ah…”
Before Zhou Yuan could finish his sentence, he screamed.
Song Shishi took advantage of his approach, quickly and accurately grabbed the dagger and slashed at his arm.
Zhou Yuan let go of her because of the pain, took two steps back, covered his bleeding wound, and stared at her with red eyes.
“You’re not ruthless enough, just slashing my arm won’t stop me.” Zhou Yuan glanced at the wound, chuckled, and said words that made Song Shishi’s whole body go cold.
What should she do?
Run back now?
But how could she outrun Zhou Yuan, a man who grew up in the village?
Slash Zhou Yuan again? It wouldn’t be easy.
Zhou Yuan was now on guard, and she wouldn’t be able to easily succeed again.
The sun was blazing, but she felt cold all over.
The wound on his arm didn’t pose much of a threat to Zhou Yuan.
The wound seemed to trigger the wolf in his body, and he fiercely pounced on Song Shishi.
Song Shishi turned and ran, not having time to think about anything.
Next time she sees Meng Xunzhou, she must pull him aside and ask him to teach her some self-defense techniques.
Just having a dagger, against someone who doesn’t care about their life, with such a disparity in strength, it wouldn’t be much use.
She hadn’t run far when Zhou Yuan caught up.
He grabbed her hair and pulled her back.
Song Shishi was forced to lean back, and her whole body fell to the ground, her scalp was pulled painfully.
She gritted her teeth, swung the dagger back.
But in her panic, she didn’t injure Zhou Yuan.
There was no one around, so Song Shishi saved her breath from calling for help.
She tried her best to cut the hair that Zhou Yuan was holding.
Zhou Yuan raised his foot and kicked the dagger out of her hand.
Without a weapon for self-defense, Zhou Yuan became even more brazen.
Song Shishi’s hands were tightly grasped by Zhou Yuan, pressed to the ground.
His ferocious smile made Song Shishi feel what despair was.
“Help! Help!”
She didn’t care anymore, she shouted with all her might, while trying to kick Zhou Yuan with her feet.
Zhou Yuan was too agile, dealing with a clueless Song Shishi was a piece of cake.
But the unexpected happened when Zhou Yuan was most proud.
Just as Zhou Yuan was about to straddle Song Shishi, there was a “bang”, and he was kicked away by someone.
Then Song Shishi saw a figure pounce on Zhou Yuan, and soon the two of them were wrestling.
She scrambled to her feet and backed away.
When she saw that the person wrestling with Zhou Yuan was An Jinsheng, her heart skipped a beat, and a mixture of emotions surged up.
She pursed her lips and turned to run away.
Zhou Yuan saw Song Shishi running away, and while swinging his fist at An Jinsheng’s face, he sneered, “I thought you two were in love, but it turns out you’re the same as me.”
“Who the hell is the same as you? Don’t flatter yourself.”
An Jinsheng spat a mouthful of blood-stained saliva onto the ground, raised his foot and kicked Zhou Yuan in the chest, sending him flying.
“You’ve been hanging around women since you came to Huaiqing, who doesn’t know who you are? Why are you pretending to be a big shot in front of me?”
Zhou Yuan wasn’t one to take a loss, he got up and punched An Jinsheng.
“You’re always getting close to my cousin, and then you go and harass that bitch Song Shishi, you think I don’t know?”
An Jinsheng gritted his teeth, and his punches became even stronger.
“You’re just trash that grew up in the mud, how can you compare with me?”
“Even if you’re the son of a high-ranking official, what’s the point? You still have to stay with us mud-legged people, right? Even the woman you’re obsessed with, can’t she still abandon you? What are you so proud of?”
“Shut your mouth.”
Zhou Yuan flipped An Jinsheng over, and An Jinsheng rolled over, just beside the dagger that Song Shishi had dropped earlier.
He picked up the dagger, his eyes dark, and rushed towards Zhou Yuan.
…
When Song Shishi came with the captain and others, she saw Zhou Yuan lying on the ground with a dagger in his abdomen, and An Jinsheng’s hand was still gripping the handle of the dagger.
It was clear that he was very nervous, his whole body was trembling.
When she saw that it was An Jinsheng who saved her, her heart was complicated.
For a moment, she hoped that these two dogs would bite each other, and it would be fine if they beat each other to death or disability.
Although she hated An Jinsheng, she didn’t want An Jinsheng to die because he saved her.
She ran back to the threshing ground, called the captain and Chen Hui, and wanted to bring people to help.
But she didn’t expect to see this situation.
“Quick! Go get the Barefoot Doctor, and have Zhang Youde pull the ox cart over, send Zhou Yuan to the hospital in town.”
“This is a different matter, Chen Hui, take people to control An Jinsheng, and wait for the police to come.”
Zhou Jianguo scanned the scene and quickly made a decision.
An Jinsheng didn’t say anything, he released his hand, looked up and searched through the crowd.
When his eyes met Song Shishi’s, he actually smiled.
Song Shishi didn’t understand what his smile meant at this moment, but she felt that An Jinsheng was probably crazy.
