Chapter 5: Exciting?
Di Dahu shook his head, gasping for breath, “It’s not a ghost… it’s, it’s a lot of zombie variants! They’re in the basement of this building! And there are types I’ve never seen before, incredibly deadly…”
The banging sounds grew closer, along with the chilling screams unique to zombies, mixed with the torrential rain outside. Just listening to the sounds sent shivers down your spine.
Mei Yasha in the hallway even screamed, “Ah! They’re breaking through the iron bars, they’re coming up!”
Di Dahu pointed to the window across from him and yelled, “Boss, behind you! The window!”
Wen Yao looked in the direction of the sound and saw a green, all-over variant creature clinging to the window, which had been dark a moment ago.
It was shaped like a human, but not a human. Its entire body was covered in sticky black pus, its limbs were twisted in a grotesque way, and its two bloodshot eyes bulged, one of which had fallen out, barely hanging on by a bloody vein. It was terrifying and sickening.
Wen Yao’s pupils constricted, and she quickly grabbed her Silver Moon blade.
Ji Mingchen’s expression turned serious. As the leaping variant creature outside the window smashed through the glass and fell in, he raised his hand and summoned flames.
In an instant, a fierce flame engulfed the creature. It let out a horrifying scream before burning to ashes and scattering.
Wen Yao, speechless: “…”
So Ji Mingchen had awakened his ability at this moment?
No, considering his sharp reaction speed and the power of his ability, he must have awakened long ago.
Then why had he only used guns and swords when he fought with her for so many years?
So she had been seriously treating him as an enemy, while he was just playing pretend with her?
“…”
Wen Yao wasn’t unaware of the power of ability users, but she had never seen such destructive power before…
This kind of agile leaping variant, their team would need ten or more people to fight it for a long time before they could completely kill it. But he had burned it out in an instant?
Before anyone could react, Mei Yasha hurriedly pulled Di Dahu into the room, then slammed the door shut with a “bang,” reporting to Ji Mingchen in a hurried tone, “Boss, dozens of different variants, they’re all rushing in! Both staircases are blocked!”
“Type R-type mutants too!!”
Wen Yao was also terrified. Type R-type mutants were a new type of advanced variant that had only recently appeared. Their weak point wasn’t their head, but their entire network of veins. Even if they were dismembered, their limbs still had strong attack power.
If they were bitten, the death rate and mutation rate were both 100%. If they were just scratched, the mutation rate was still as high as one-third, and no related vaccine had been developed yet.
Di Dahu’s face was full of panic, looking at Ji Mingchen, “What do we do, Boss! We can’t get out!!!”
He said, why were there so many resources nearby but no one was seen scavenging them? It turned out they were hiding these terrifying variants…
Ji Mingchen also realized the seriousness of the situation. If he were to fight these many variants alone, he could naturally do it, but he obviously had no reason to fight them to the death.
These variants each had their own advantages. Some were thick-skinned and tough, some were fast, some had countless tongues, and some could even spit out poisonous liquid that could cause death and mutation…
Fighting them, he could survive, but the three of them would surely die.
Listening to the sounds getting closer, Ji Mingchen didn’t hesitate. He went to the window, peeked down, and directly ordered, “Go out the window.”
Their car was parked right outside the window. Mei Yasha instantly understood, took a leap from the broken window, and quickly flipped into the car after landing on the roof. While starting the car, she shouted, “Boss! Quick!”
This was the second floor, jumping down without an ability was risky. Di Dahu hesitated for two seconds by the window, but before he could make up his mind, Ji Mingchen kicked him down, “You stupid idiot, go!”
“Ah—”
“Bang!”
“…”
At this time, the heads of the oddly shaped variants had already appeared in the corridor. Wen Yao sat helplessly on the bed, clutching the hilt of her blade, her heart in her throat…
Logically, zombie variants were rare, and they usually appeared alone. She didn’t know what kind of dangerous zone this was, that it had so many variants.
She had lost a lot of blood and was very weak. The many wounds on her body had just been stitched up. Now, she couldn’t even get out of bed, let alone fight or escape…
In this critical situation, Ji Mingchen would be dead if he was one second late. Would he save her?
As a group of variants broke through the door and rushed in, Wen Yao closed her eyes in despair.
At the last minute, she felt something cold and sticky touch her arm. The next second, it quickly peeled away, and her body suddenly lifted into the air, being held in a warm, broad embrace.
In a brief half-second, a wall of flames rose, and the two of them leaped out the window.
The wind roared past their ears, and large raindrops slapped against their cheeks. When Wen Yao let go of the man’s neck and opened her eyes, the off-road vehicle had already drifted far away.
Ji Mingchen held Wen Yao on the roof of the off-road vehicle, while behind the vehicle, variants of all shapes and sizes fell from the broken hospital window. They were covered in pus, their faces were hideous, and they were all opening their bloody mouths and rushing towards them.
Above, there was a dark and oppressive layer of clouds, and below, there were dilapidated and broken concrete buildings. The heavy rain continued to pour, washing away the mud and withered grass, as well as the terrifying monsters running around…
This was the end of the world, a world with few sunny days and light, a world constantly filled with blood, danger, and death.
Wen Yao looked at the scene behind the car, her heart pounding for a long time. It wasn’t until Ji Mingchen stuffed her into the back seat that she came back to her senses.
Ji Mingchen then flipped into the back seat as well. He was soaked from the rain, his black hair was messy, and a drop of water slid down his hair, landing on his wet white robe.
He casually took off his outer robe and slowly roasted it with the flames in his palm. The back seat instantly became filled with steam.
Noticing Wen Yao’s gaze, he smiled, “Exciting?”
