“The Gentle Rose Becomes His Most Beloved in the Apocalypse” Chapter 6

Chapter 6: He Savored the Kiss

Wen Yao: “…”

So everyone else was scared out of their wits, but this guy was enjoying the thrill. He was truly worthy of being Ji Mingchen, he was indeed a sadist.

She lowered her eyelids and only now realized that her pants had been torn at some point. They were already shredded and after what just happened, the long pants had become shorts.

A pair of legs as white as jade were exposed, but unfortunately, they were covered in ugly scars and swollen beyond recognition, not very aesthetically pleasing.

Since the apocalypse, she had always worn long pants and long sleeves, and had never exposed her legs. The sudden change made her instinctively want to cover them with something.

But she looked around the back seat and couldn’t find anything, so she could only pull at her windbreaker jacket in a futile attempt to cover herself.

Ji Mingchen sensed her discomfort, his eyelids fluttered slightly, and he casually threw the white robe in his hand over her. The dried fabric instantly covered her legs, from her waist to her feet.

The coldness was gone, and Wen Yao gratefully glanced at him: “Thank you.”

Ji Mingchen was left with only the white shirt underneath, which was wet from the rain, the fabric clinging to his skin, slightly transparent, revealing his well-defined abs. Against his handsome, almost demonic features, it added a touch of sexy allure.

He propped his chin on his hand, his gaze lingering on Wen Yao with amusement, his mind replaying the scene at the hospital, and that kiss…

Wen Yao felt her scalp tingle under the man’s gaze, and was about to ask something when she saw Ji Mingchen raise his hand and tap the partition in front of them with the back of his finger.

The metal partition slowly lowered, and Maya’s voice came through: “Boss?”

Ji Mingchen asked her: “Do you know anything about the R-type mutated virus?”

Maya didn’t know what the boss meant, but she still answered meticulously: “The R-type mutated virus is a new type of zombie mutation virus that emerged in the last three months. It is currently the strongest of all zombie viruses…”

Ji Mingchen interrupted Maya: “Does it affect the brain if you’re infected with this virus?”

Maya: “The Biology Department of each base is still researching this virus, and the results are currently inconclusive.”

Ji Mingchen placed his finger on his lips, his fingertips rubbing against his lips, his gaze still fixed on Wen Yao, as if he was really thinking: “I feel like this virus might affect the brain’s structure…”

Wen Yao: “…”

She thought to herself, you’re the one with the brain problem, but she didn’t say it out loud, out of respect for the fact that he had saved her twice. She simply wrapped the fabric around her body and turned to look out the window.

Looking at Wen Yao’s calm and sullen profile, Ji Mingchen chuckled softly, leaned back in his seat, his eyes filled with a hint of amusement and curiosity, but he didn’t speak again.

Meanwhile, in the Beizhou, District 13 Base.

Shen Yichuan walked out of the virus lab, holding a research report in his hand. He kept replaying the researcher’s words in his mind:

“The blocking vaccine for the R-type zombie virus is still under research, but the mutation probability of its strain has been confirmed to be decreasing day by day. It will generally decrease significantly after ten days, but it will take a month for it to be completely safe.”

Ten days…

Since the base vehicle restarted its journey and arrived at District 13 Base, Shen Yichuan’s heart had not been at ease. He was so anxious that he couldn’t sleep at night, how could he wait another ten days? The supplies he left for her were only enough to last three days.

He immediately returned to his residence and, under the cover of darkness, gathered a few trusted team members and chose a modified car to return to the snowfield.

As the car drove out of the garage, a figure in black ran over. The driver stopped the car and the door opened.

Shen Yichuan was already in a bad mood, and seeing the petite figure outside, he frowned and said coldly: “What are you doing here? Go back.”

Mu Shengsheng, with her innocent little face, looked up at Shen Yichuan: “Captain Shen, are you leaving to find Deputy Captain Wen?”

Shen Yichuan turned away, his voice cold: “I order you to go back.”

But Mu Shengsheng stubbornly clung to the car door, her eyes red: “If it wasn’t for me, Deputy Captain Wen wouldn’t have been scratched. I want to go with you…”

Fang Lanyin in the car snorted: “You know you’re a liability, so just stay out of the way. Go back to sleep.”

Someone else chimed in: “Yeah, don’t make Captain Shen busy saving you, and then we’ll be in trouble again.”

“…”

Mu Shengsheng was not willing to give up. Seeing that the car was about to start again, she made a decision and pulled the door open and jumped into the car.

This was the first time Shen Yichuan had seen someone so defiant, he couldn’t help but raise his gun at her: “What are you doing!?”

Mu Shengsheng closed her eyes, tears streaming down her face: “I want to go, Captain Shen, if you’re really angry, just shoot me.”

Seeing that the car was already on the road, Shen Yichuan didn’t want to waste time, he threw the gun down in anger and turned his head away, refusing to look at her.

Mu Shengsheng and Wen Yao were similar in height and build, and their facial contours were somewhat alike. Looking at her stubborn, tearful expression, Shen Yichuan felt a sudden pain in his heart. He couldn’t help but think of Wen Yao’s tearful face in the snow.

Wen Yao wasn’t Mu Shengsheng, nor was she any of the timid and vulnerable team members in the base…

For all these years, except for the first few months, she had rarely cried in front of him. She was outwardly obedient, with a gentle personality, seemingly weak and easy to bully, but in fact, she was tougher than anyone else.

She didn’t cry when her bones were broken, she didn’t cry when she was bitten or scratched by zombies, even when she and him were trapped in the mountain of corpses and almost didn’t make it back, she didn’t cry.

But this time, he left her in the snowfield, and she cried…

Why, just because the person he protected first was Mu Shengsheng and she got hurt?

But if it had been Mu Shengsheng who was scratched, Mu Shengsheng would have died without a doubt, but Wen Yao still had a good chance of survival.

Shen Yichuan looked at the vast snowy night outside the window, his mind replaying over and over again Wen Yao’s tearful eyes and the words she said in a trembling voice.

“But Shen Yichuan, I’m scared too…”

“I’m scared too…”

How could she be scared? How could she be scared? She’s well-trained, she’s so skilled, she’s sharp, strong, and calm.

Just a snowy wasteland, what is there to be scared of?

But the more he thought about it, the more he questioned it, the more uneasy Shen Yichuan felt, like his heart was thrown into a frying pan, no matter what he did, it was a torment.

In the end, he could only close his eyes in pain and silently pray for her safety.
