Chapter 32: If I looked like you, I’d live off my looks.
Wen Yao: “Huh?”
Ji Mingchen pointed at her clothes: “They’re too dirty. I don’t really want to hold you.”
Wen Yao looked down, realizing she indeed looked like a scavenger, and nodded: “No need to bother, I can walk myself.”
Thus, Ji Mingchen walked ahead, Wen Yao trailing behind with her iron blade. Two people with completely different styles suddenly appearing together created a bizarre scene.
Not only were Qiu Zhi and the others stunned, but He Fengyan next to them also frowned, his expression bewildered.
He originally thought that this girl was only brought back by Captain Ming to sleep with because she was too beautiful, but it seemed she was quite extraordinary.
After getting lost in Gangqiao City, she had actually gone to Camp F alone. Now, late at night, she was even holding an iron blade and fighting a long-tongued mutant. Throughout it all, she remained calm and strong, not only didn’t cry in fear, but her face didn’t even show a hint of fear.
She could even flatten the mutant’s head with just an old iron blade…
This little girl, she’s got something.
Ji Mingchen walked a few steps extremely slowly, but even though he slowed down so much, Wen Yao couldn’t catch up.
Wen Yao felt strange too. This kind of long-tongued zombie was generally non-toxic. Why did her ankle lose feeling? Was it numb from being wrapped? Or was it that the long-tongued zombies in Dongzhou were different from those in Beizhou?
Wen Yao held the iron blade and stared at her ankle in confusion. She bent down and pounded it, then pinched it, but there was no reaction at all.
Her wound was still bleeding, the flesh was still exposed under her torn clothes, but she seemed to feel no pain, only focusing on why her ankle had no feeling.
Ji Mingchen looked at Wen Yao behind him, his expression inscrutable, and couldn’t help but softly call her name: “Wen Yao.”
He usually liked to tease and joke, and he called her by different names, but he had never called her by her full name.
Wen Yao was slightly stunned, then she leaned on the iron blade and hopped over: “Coming.”
Unexpectedly, the man walked two steps in front of her, directly reaching out to grab the iron blade from her hand and threw it away, then bent down and picked her up: “Are you numb to pain? Huh?”
Wen Yao was completely caught off guard. When she realized it, she was already being held in a broad embrace. Unlike her own dirty and smelly clothes, the man was not only warm and comfortable, but his breath was also fresh and clean, with a faint scent of grass and trees.
She subconsciously pressed her hand on his shoulder. When she released it, there was a clear five-finger black mark on the white fabric.
Ji Mingchen looked down at the claw mark on his shoulder: “…”
Wen Yao retracted her hand: “No… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
Ji Mingchen smiled: “You like digging coal?”
Wen Yao: “…”
That’s a strange question…
It’s not like she wanted to dig coal. Camp F was responsible for searching for all kinds of useful resources outside. The apocalypse had been going on for a long time, so food and other daily necessities were definitely expired. Therefore, they were looking for coal mines, iron mines, and other resources. Digging coal was inevitable.
“Life’s necessities, it’s not like I… really like it.”
Ji Mingchen’s smile faded, his lips twitched slightly. He ignored Wen Yao and, under the surprised gazes of everyone, carried her into the car.
After being placed on the seat, Wen Yao quickly looked out the window. Qiu Zhi was staring at her car with a strange expression.
Jin Yiwen and Bei Xiaoduo also came over. Jin Yiwen asked Qiu Zhi: “They took the boss away? Why did they take the boss away?”
Qiu Zhi was still staring blankly: “To be precise, it’s not taking away, it’s carrying away…”
“And, the man who carried her away… seems to be the chief of our Dongzhou District 14.”
The one who ruled District 14, but whose reputation shook Dongzhou and even the entire Four Continents.
Qiu Zhi stiffly turned his head, then said “Damn”: “No wonder the boss didn’t like anyone! It turns out she’s Captain Ming’s runaway little wife!”
“I was too narrow-minded. I always thought the boss was extraordinary, but I didn’t realize she was this extraordinary…”
“Amazing, damn, this is too amazing, the boss is awesome!”
Jin Yiwen only then noticed that everyone else had gotten into the car. Although the zombie horde had been shot down, they were left behind.
She quickly said to Qiu Zhi: “What do we do? They don’t seem to have any intention of taking us with them?”
Qiu Zhi also realized the problem. It turned out that such a grand operation was just Captain Ming coming to find his little wife, and they, the nameless pawns, were not worth a dime. They weren’t even worth being noticed…
Seeing that the car was about to start, Qiu Zhi quickly waved to the car: “Hey! Hey! Boss! Yao Mei! Qiu Lao Da!”
Ji Mingchen was tearing off some fabric to temporarily bandage the scratch on Wen Yao’s right arm, and he slightly raised his eyelids when he heard the voice, asking casually: “That yellow-haired kid calls you so affectionately, what’s your relationship with him?”
Wen Yao leaned on the glass window, looking at them outside: “Three useless people.”
Ji Mingchen lifted his eyelids: “…”
Wen Yao sighed and turned to look at Ji Mingchen: “Can you give them a ride? Without me, they probably won’t survive until tomorrow morning.”
Ji Mingchen looked at Wen Yao, her small face was dirty, but her eyes were clear and bright, her gaze full of hope.
He then looked at He Fengyan in the passenger seat: “Go.”
“Yes.” He Fengyan said, then got out of the car and pointed to a car: “Captain Ming’s order, take those three people into the city.”
Watching Qiu Zhi and the others get into the car behind them, Wen Yao’s gaze finally fell back on her hand. The wound on her arm was simply bandaged with white fabric, but the fabric was still soaked with bright red blood.
Wen Yao glanced at the wound on her hand, then looked up at Ji Mingchen sitting next to her.
His white clothes were dirty and messy from holding her, and a piece of his sleeve was torn off because there was nothing to bandage her with. As if feeling uncomfortable, the man frowned slightly and rubbed his temples in a bit of a headache.
This man was more fastidious than a woman. He loved to change clothes, hated having his clothes dirtied, and his living space was spotless, his cleanliness bordering on obsessive.
And now, he was so dirty because of her…
Wen Yao couldn’t describe her mood at the moment.
Ever since she saw him tonight, she felt like she was in a dream. Even now, she hadn’t quite come back to her senses.
Why would Ji Mingchen come looking for her? And why did he cause such a stir? Judging from the scene earlier, it seemed like he had dispatched half of the District 14 base’s team members.
She never thought she was an important figure. She had encountered countless dangers when she was on missions alone before, and she always solved them herself.
Even Shen Yichuan, who cared about her a little, wouldn’t be so reckless just to find her.
