Chapter 51: Trying to Take Advantage of Me?
Ji Mingchen turned to clean up the trash on the experimental table, Wen Yao quickly followed him, unable to help but feel afraid: “What’s the approximate probability of this ability awakening agent turning into a monster?”
“Zero point zero five percent.”
Wen Yao breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, the probability seemed very low.
Ji Mingchen looked at her furrowed brows caused by nervousness, a playful glint in his eyes. He asked in a lazy tone: “Do you remember the lotus pond behind the Rose Garden Chapel?”
Wen Yao thought for a moment: “What about it…?”
There was indeed a beautiful pond behind the Rose Garden Chapel, visible from the terrace on top of the castle, but… why was he mentioning it?
Ji Mingchen couldn’t help but laugh: “I haven’t finished what I was saying…”
“If you turn into a monster fish, I’ll keep you in that pond and make you the happiest monster fish in the world. What do you think?”
Wen Yao: “…”
Thanks a lot.
The tense atmosphere was eased by this joke. Wen Yao glanced at Ji Mingchen, seeing his relaxed and composed demeanor, she guessed that she should be fine.
He might not be a good person, but he was genuine towards her. He had saved her several times, took good care of her, and now he had brought her to the research center in Dongzhou Zone 14, patiently explaining the ability awakening agent to her.
After doing so much, it couldn’t be that he was trying to turn her into a monster fish, right?
To observe for any other abnormalities, they stayed in the laboratory for another half an hour before leaving.
By the time they returned to the ancient castle villa, it was very late. Except for a few scattered guards with guns, the dimly lit villa area was deserted.
The night was desolate. On the tree-lined path illuminated by European-style streetlights, the leaves of the sycamore trees cast mottled shadows. The cool breeze rustled the leaves, making a rustling sound. Wen Yao walked beside Ji Mingchen.
On the way back, Ji Mingchen remained silent. She was also lost in thought in this quiet atmosphere, inexplicably remembering many things, things that had been stored in her memory but she had never locked away.
Had Ji Mingchen only been kind to her since she came to Dongzhou? It seemed not…
When they had met before, even though they were enemies, he hadn’t been bad to her. He had basically just been putting on a show, letting her go many times, like a cat and mouse game, purely for fun.
He had never truly harmed her, but she had been filled with hatred for him. Even his kindness towards her was seen by her as disrespectful teasing and mockery.
She thought he was a pervert, not doing his job, idle, so she was angry, disgusted, and confronted him whenever she saw him…
Even now, after he saved her and she was on his territory, she often couldn’t help but get angry at him, feeling annoyed and displeased with him.
Wen Yao didn’t understand where these emotions came from before, but now, thinking about it, she realized that it was probably a kind of shame-induced anger.
She subconsciously refused to face the collapse of her beliefs, refused to accept her mistakes and failures, so she transferred this anger to him, her former enemy. As a result, she chose to ignore all his good deeds towards her, even distrusting him, thinking he had ulterior motives…
Even when he casually said “What a pity”, perhaps without any malice, she was convinced that he was gloating. In the end, it was still him who brought her a branch of roses to apologize.
“…”
It seemed he was right, she was quite heartless.
As they were about to reach the main entrance of the ancient castle villa, Wen Yao suddenly reached out and pulled on the man’s pristine white shirt sleeve.
Ji Mingchen stopped in his tracks, turned his head, and leaned down to look at her: “What’s wrong?”
Under the shadow of the sycamore tree, the girl’s eyes shimmered. The dim glow of the European streetlights poured down, falling on her soft hair and white dress, as if her whole being was slightly luminous.
Wen Yao wanted to say sorry, wanted to say thank you, but these two words seemed out of place and inappropriate at this moment. So she could only stare at him, all her words stuck in her throat, silent.
Ji Mingchen waited for a moment, a smile curving his lips, teasingly: “Why are you looking at me like that? Trying to take advantage of me?”
“…” Good, that little bit of guilt was gone.
Wen Yao pointed at the silver bracelet on his wrist. Her thousand words turned into: “When can you return the bracelet to me?”
Ji Mingchen raised an eyebrow, put one hand in his pocket, straightened up, his beautiful peach blossom eyes narrowed, his demeanor noble and unparalleled. His magnetic and clear voice was even more alluring in this deserted moonlit night: “We’ll talk about it later.”
“…”
Back on the fifth floor of the ancient castle villa, at the elevator entrance, before parting ways, Ji Mingchen asked Wen Yao: “By the way, do you have a headache now?”
Wen Yao turned around: “Huh?”
Ji Mingchen: “After injecting the ability awakening agent, there are pathological reactions, different for different people. The most common ones are headaches, fever, or unconsciousness, lasting for about three to seven days. This varies from person to person, do you need me to stay and keep you company?”
Wen Yao was stunned for a moment, quickly understanding the meaning of his words. He had been relaxing for so many days, and now he was probably going out again, so he was asking this.
She also had a general understanding of the physical reactions of ability awakening, it was just a matter of getting sick, nothing serious, there was no need for him, a busy man, to stay and keep her company.
As the manager, even the ruler, of such a large survivor area, if he stayed to keep her company while she was sick, it would be a shame.
“No need, I can take care of myself.” Wen Yao replied.
Ji Mingchen didn’t say anything, just looked down at her with a smile: “Okay, if you need anything, find Dr. Lin.”
Back in her room, Wen Yao sat on the sofa in the small hall and put down the silver pistol and rose branch in her hands.
She had just casually placed them, but the gun and rose on the transparent glass coffee table actually created a unique beauty.
Wen Yao’s eyelashes drooped slightly, so she picked up the pistol. She didn’t know much about weapons, but she could tell that it was a brand new, high-quality pistol. Although small and delicate, it could hold many bullets.
The grip felt comfortable in her hand, perfect for a girl’s hand.
She played with it for a while, and suddenly noticed that there were carvings on the gun.
On one side was a rose, and on the other was a… small sun?
“…”
As expected of something belonging to Ji Mingchen, it was really exquisite and beautiful.
After putting down the gun, Wen Yao rolled up her sleeves to check the needle mark on her elbow.
Water element ability…
She was about to become a water element ability user.
Thinking about it, she inexplicably recalled when she was five years old, her grandmother took her to an old man in the mountains to have her fortune told. The old man said that the little girl’s birth chart was heavy with water, she was intelligent and perceptive, and she would definitely do well in her studies in the future. Her grandmother was overjoyed when she heard this.
Unexpectedly, more than ten years later, she was actually about to awaken her water element ability…
Ji Mingchen said that the attribute of the element carrier is determined at birth, which means that she was born with the water attribute.
So what was the connection between this and what her grandmother had her fortune told when she was young?
Was it really confirming the saying “The end of science is metaphysics, the end of metaphysics is theology”?
