Chapter 29
Su Yaqin waved her hand with a smile and patted Li Haoyang’s little head.
“No, it was Xiaobao who said he missed you and insisted on coming to see you. It just so happened that your brother-in-law bumped into Director Zhao yesterday, and I only learned that you were coming today. So I brought Xiaobao here early this morning to wait for you.”
Hearing this, Song Shishi squatted down, looked straight at Li Haoyang, and said softly, “Xiaobao, Auntie has to go and do something first. You stay here with Mom and this Auntie for a while, and Auntie will take you to the street after I’m done, okay?”
Li Haoyang thought for a moment, then glanced at Su Yaqin before nodding in agreement, “Okay, Xiaobao will wait for you.”
After a brief exchange with Su Yaqin and Xu Li, she went directly to Director Zhao’s office.
Pushing the door open, Director Zhao was making tea.
Hearing the sound, Director Zhao turned his head to look at Song Shishi standing at the door, a warm smile blooming on his face as he beckoned her.
“Comrade Song, come in.”
Director Zhao placed the freshly brewed cup of tea in front of her and said slowly, “I called you over today mainly because of that document from last time.”
Song Shishi nodded, not in a hurry to speak. She quietly looked at Director Zhao, waiting for him to continue.
“The leaders above were very satisfied with your translation and praised you highly.
The first thing today is to give you the remuneration we agreed upon.
The second thing is to ask if you are willing to work with our library on a long-term basis?”
Before Song Shishi could speak, Director Zhao added, “Don’t worry about the treatment. With your level, our library will definitely not treat you unfairly.”
Song Shishi smiled and said, “It’s my honor to work with you. I still have a lot to learn from you.
But you know my situation. I’m still in the countryside in Huaqing Brigade and can’t come to the library every day like others to work on time.”
“These are all minor issues. As long as you’re willing to come, we can discuss other conditions slowly.”
Director Zhao was afraid that he would miss such a good talent like Song Shishi because of these trivial matters.
Song Shishi stood up with a smile and extended her hand, “Then I’ll need your guidance in the future.”
Director Zhao was overjoyed, holding her extended hand with both of his, his eyes filled with tears, “Comrade Song, welcome to join us.”
Later, they discussed the details with Director Zhao, and finally decided that she would come to the library once a week.
As for the documents that needed to be translated, if they weren’t urgent, she could pick them up when she came to the library every week, as long as she ensured that the content of the documents wasn’t leaked.
If she encountered urgent or important documents, Director Zhao could call the Huaqing Brigade or send a letter to her.
As she was leaving, Director Zhao handed her a thick envelope.
“This is the reward promised to you by the superiors, and the leaders above have also commended you.”
Song Shishi took a quick look and estimated it to be around one thousand yuan.
She didn’t expect that her first salary after her rebirth would be earned through translating documents.
“Keep up the good work, Comrade Song.”
“Thank you, Director Zhao. I’ll be on my way then.”
Leaving Director Zhao’s office, her face was filled with uncontainable joy.
When Li Haoyang saw her come out, he rushed over immediately, hugged her leg, and looked up at her, asking, “Pretty Auntie, are you done?”
Song Shishi’s eyebrows were filled with smiles as she bent down and picked up Li Haoyang, “Yes, now Auntie can take Xiaobao to the street to buy some delicious food.”
While Song Shishi was talking to Director Zhao, Su Yaqin also learned a lot from Xu Li.
But there were many people in the library, and it wasn’t a good place to talk.
Song Shishi noticed Su Yaqin’s hesitation and then looked at Xu Li beside her.
Xu Li shrugged, looking helpless.
Su Yaqin had been in the business world with her husband for many years, and it was a piece of cake for her to get some information out of a teenage girl.
Song Shishi also guessed a little bit, but she didn’t reveal it, just smiling and teasing Li Haoyang in her arms.
Walking to Su Yaqin’s side, she whispered, “Sister, I’m going to take Xu Li to buy some winter clothes. Do you and Xiaobao want to come?”
“Yes, of course. We’ve been waiting for you for so long, how could we not go?”
Su Yaqin stroked the strands of hair by her ear and continued, “But if you’re going to buy clothes, why don’t you go to our ready-made clothing shop and tailor shop?”
She had always thought that Su Yaqin’s family only had a clothing factory in the county, but she didn’t expect them to have a ready-made clothing shop and a tailor shop in Qinghe Town.
It would be better to earn money for her own family than for others.
With this in mind, she and Xu Li got into Su Yaqin’s car and went to Li’s Ready-made Clothing Shop.
She originally wanted to pay Su Yaqin for the bicycle, as if she had bought it from her.
But Su Yaqin glared at her and threatened her, saying that if she mentioned paying for it again, she wouldn’t recognize her as her sister.
It wasn’t worth ruining their relationship over this.
She could only accept the bicycle as a gift from Su Yaqin.
Because she was riding in Su Yaqin’s car, her bicycle was temporarily parked at the library.
When they arrived at Li’s Ready-made Clothing Shop, Song Shishi found that the styles of the clothes were relatively simple, but the fabrics and colors were more diverse than other shops.
The quality of the ready-made clothes was also very good.
There were also some beautiful blouses hanging in the shop.
Xu Li’s eyes widened as soon as she entered the shop.
“What do you like? Go try it on. Sister will buy it for you.” Song Shishi patted Xu Li’s back and said softly.
Xu Li turned to look at her, her eyes seemed to speak, as if asking her, “Really?”
She nodded, “Go ahead.”
Su Yaqin took two blouses from the side and handed them to Xu Li, saying generously, “It’s from our own shop, why would we charge you? Just take them back if you like them.”
Song Shishi was amused by Su Yaqin’s words, “Sister, you’re running a business, how can you not charge money?”
“I didn’t give you money for saving Xiaobao, did I? It’s nothing to give you a few pieces of clothing.”
Li Haoyang hugged Song Shishi’s neck and joined his mother in persuading her, “Pretty Auntie, just listen to my mom. If the employees in the shop dare to charge you today, my mom will definitely fire them with her temper.”
Children’s words are the truest.
So she clearly saw that after Li Haoyang finished speaking, the two employees in the ready-made clothing shop immediately turned their backs and dared not look at her.
Knowing that she couldn’t persuade Su Yaqin, she simply gave up.
It was also a happy thing to have someone be good to you.
There was no need to suffer needlessly.
She could save the money she earned and buy some gifts for her parents when she returned to Beijing.
