Cheng An
Cheng An thought of the four thousand kilograms of meat he had drawn before, and was about to speak, but was interrupted by a roar from the beast below.
“Chief! I dug up a giant deer!”
Giant deer!
Yu’s heart was lifted, and Cheng An quickly retracted into his scarf. He didn’t care about anything else and ran to the side of the black bear.
Although the snow below was still pure white, it smelled a little bloody. Yu got close and smelled it, and it really smelled like a giant deer.
“There is indeed the smell of a giant deer below. Xiao Hua, good job! Three people come over here, dig deeper below.”
The black bear called Xiao Hua showed a somewhat ferocious smile after receiving the praise. He raised his claws and scratched his head. Such a humanized action made him, a big beast, seem a little honest. “Chief, you take the priest to stand on the hillside. I have a good nose and I will lead everyone to dig here. Otherwise, the snow will collapse and scare the priest.”
Yu returned to the hillside. This was a valley filled with pure snow. Although the snow was still frozen solid, there was a risk of collapse if he continued to dig deeper.
Yu brought the little priest of their tribe with him, so he really couldn’t stand so close.
The beastmen in the hunting team this time were all fierce. They were not going to fight with mammoths. It was just digging some snow with their claws. Nothing would happen. At most, their claws would be frozen after digging snow for a long time.
The best tool for the beastmen was their beast-like body. Soon Xiao Hua heard that they had dug up a giant deer.
As soon as the news came out, without Yu saying much, everyone gathered around spontaneously to help dig some snow nearby. Then several beastmen carried a giant deer up the hillside.
Cheng An curiously poked his head out to see, and found that this “giant deer” was indeed a giant deer. Although it was named after a deer, this giant deer was much bigger than the North American moose that Cheng An had seen!
Cheng An swallowed his saliva. It was a miracle that he could survive under the feet of the giant deer. At that time, he was only afraid, and he didn’t think that the giant deer in its complete form was so big.
It was estimated to be three or four meters tall, and at least more than 900 kilograms.
It was not long after digging that a giant deer of considerable size was dug out, which greatly boosted morale. The beastmen who came out to hunt believed that there might be many giant deer buried under the snow, and they dug the snow more vigorously.
Because it was buried under the snow, the giant deer was frozen hard, and there were many ice cubes stuck to its body, which greatly increased its weight. However, Yu judged based on his many years of hunting experience that after digging out the deer, except for the skin, antlers and other inedible things, each person in their tribe could get at least more than ten kilograms of meat.
With potatoes to cook soup, they can last for a while longer.
Yu’s eyes fell on the snow layer, hoping that there were more giant deer buried under the snow. This way, their tribe would have a better time this snow season.
They were lucky this time. After digging through the snow layer, they dug out six giant deer. One of which was a small deer, which was only relatively small.
It was great to have such a harvest!
Cheng An was also very happy looking at the pile of meat. He looked up and asked Yu: “With these harvests, can everyone survive?”
Yu felt sad when he heard this. He whispered firmly: “Everyone will survive.”
Shitou was a few steps behind Yu with the giant deer on his back. However, he had sharp ears. When he heard Cheng An’s question, he shook his ears and teased: “We have little priest Yu. No beastmen will die in this snow season. Don’t you think so, little priest? If there is really no food, you can ask the beast god for help.”
Cheng An turned his head away and didn’t want to see Shitou.
Xiao Hua said slowly: “Shitou, don’t talk like that. You don’t respect the priest.”
“Oh, I’m teasing the little priest. I don’t disrespect him!”
Perhaps because of the harvest, everyone’s interest was obviously higher when they went back than when they went out, and they joked with each other.
Yu suddenly thought of something and asked Cheng An with a smile: “Little priest, have you thought of a name for yourself?”
Cheng An said seriously: “I am Cheng An.”
“Cheng, An?” Yu slowly said Cheng An’s name.
Cheng An nodded and repeated: “Yes, Cheng An.”
Shitou couldn’t help but interrupt again, “Cheng An? This name is hard to remember. Little priest, why do you give yourself such a strange name?”
Xiao Hua: “The priest’s name is not strange, this must be the will of the beast god!”
Shitou’s tongue was curled up when he spoke it, “But this name is really hard to remember. Priest, don’t you really want to change your name?”
“Enough, he is Cheng An.” Yu silently read it several times in his heart, and finally he could read the name smoothly. Seeing that Shitou was still struggling with Xiao Hua about Cheng An’s name, Yu made a decision and announced Cheng An’s “new name”.
Yu has seen how much Cheng An values his name.
Besides, to be honest, the two words Cheng An are not difficult to remember or say, but they are used to common names like Shitou, Xiao Hua, Cao, and Shu.
Cheng An nodded repeatedly. That’s right, he is called Cheng An, why should he change this name.
Yu lowered his head and asked Cheng An: “Can I call you An in the future?”
An? It’s a bit strange, but it’s okay. Cheng An nodded: “Okay.”
Yu: “An.”
Cheng An: “Mm.”
Shitou couldn’t help but interrupt again: “An. This is much easier to remember than Cheng An! An! An!”
Cheng An didn’t really want to pay attention, but Shitou was like calling a soul. Cheng An turned his head to take a look. Mm, a big fluffy snow leopard. He agreed reluctantly. “Mm.”
“Xiao Hua, listen quickly, the little priest agreed to me! Do you want to call me too?” Shitou’s tail stood up with joy.
Xiao Hua also said excitedly: “An.”
Cheng An: “Mm.”
After coming here for so many days, Cheng An almost understood that the beastmen didn’t seem to have complicated names like uncle, aunt,, grandma, and grandpa. Regardless of the age difference, they usually called each other by their names.
However, there was probably only one exception, that is, their parents, whom the beastmen would call father and mother.
Regardless of gender, the sub-beastman who gave birth to him was mother, and the other beastman was father.
Along the way, whenever a beastman called him by his name, Cheng An answered. Even if he was called An, it was better than Xue.
In the end, it was Yu who first proposed to call Cheng An, An, who was a little unhappy.
Cheng An didn’t notice it.
The beastmen and sub-beastmen who stayed in the tribe were very happy when they saw the hunting team bringing back the prey. It seemed that they could have a good meal today!
Yu asked everyone to put the prey on the open space in the square in the middle of the tribe, and then knocked on the stone to notify everyone.
This is a large hollow stone. When a wooden stick hits it, the sound is loud and can be heard from far away. Once you hear this sound, you know that the hunting team has gained something and can go to the square to share the meat!
Yu asked everyone not to rush and to line up first.
The meat should be distributed to the hunting team first. They have made great contributions, so they should be distributed to them first, and they should have a lot more meat.
This is a rule that has been passed down for a long time. Everyone abides by it and there is no one unsatisfied.
Besides, today’s harvest is a lot. Everyone can get a lot of meat, and today they can eat a little more meat to celebrate. Everyone is very happy, and everyone has a smile on their face.
The one who distributed the meat was Grandma Cao. Shitou helped on the side, and Yu stood by to act as a deterrent.
Grandma Cao’s hands were very steady, and each piece of meat was about the same weight. She took a look at the harvest of the hunting team and knew how much meat each person could get. No one would complain.
The people who got the meat first returned home happily, cut off a small piece of meat to cook or roast, and soon the whole tribe was filled with the delicious aroma of meat.
Today, there was a lot of meat, and the uneaten ones could be put away first. Now the weather is cold, even if the meat is not salted, it will not go bad easily in the snow.
Cheng An watched Grandma Cao divide the meat mountain, and suddenly smelled a burst of meat aroma. His stomach also rumbled.
He was hungry too.
When will it be their turn to go back and cook!
Yu participated in the hunt and got a lot of meat. Although Cheng An was a little cub, Grandma Cao did not deduct Cheng An’s rations. The meat of the two of them together was also a small meat mountain.
Cheng An looked at his own small meat mountain, and then looked at how many people were waiting in line. It was almost time!
There were not many people in their tribe, and after a cup of tea, they had divided almost all the meat, leaving only some deer antlers with fur and small pieces of meat.
These things can’t be thrown away. They have to be made into leather and traded with other tribes.
However, these are inedible things. No one will take them if they are placed on the snowy square for the time being.
Yu took the meat they were given back to his cave.
Yu first transformed into a human and put Cheng An in the nest. Then he quickly put on the fur and took the firewood to light the fire.
Then he boiled Cheng An’s broth and cut a few pieces of giant deer meat to roast.
These giant deer meats were not bled, so there was no need to apply salt. The meat itself would have a slight salty taste.
The stone pot conducts heat slowly, and Cheng An knew he had to wait for a while.
He slowly moved to Yu’s side and roasted the fire with him.
Yu was not in the quilt, and it was still warmer next to the fire.
The cave entrance was not blocked by stones, and the sunlight poured in. Although there was no heat, the light in the cave was much better.
Cheng An looked at the small stone pot, then at the cave entrance, and asked Yu: “Don’t you need to block the cave entrance with stones today?”
Yu pulled a small piece of fur and wrapped Cheng An up, “Are you cold? There is no snow and no wind today. You don’t need to block it with stones during the day, and it’s good to let in some air. I will use stones to block the cave entrance at night.”
Cheng An’s broth hasn’t boiled yet, but Yu’s meat is already sizzling with oil.
The flames licked away the dripping fat, and the slightly burnt aroma on the surface of the meat became more and more tempting.
Cheng An’s eyes were about to stick to it, and he raised his furry paws to wipe his saliva. Why didn’t he realize that this meat was so tempting before?
