Arrowroot
Back in the cave, Cheng An heard the cold mechanical voice in his mind, reminding him that his faith value had increased.
The faith value stopped at 22. Cheng An thought that after the beastmen had eaten the meat, it felt real, so they kept adding faith to him.
One distribution of meat in exchange for nearly one-third of the beastmen’ faith in the tribe, not bad!
Cheng An felt that the beastmen were quite simple. He fed them and added faith to himself.
Although there was no fire in the cave, it was much warmer than the ice and snow outside after entering the cave and blocking the entrance. Cheng An was about to become soft like a pancake.
Yu walked to the side of the stone bed, and Cheng An rolled over from Yu’s head to the nest covered with animal skins.
It was still more comfortable in his own nest!
Yu transformed into a human, took the animal skin and put it on. Then he went to light the fire, and the cave was instantly bright.
“Come and warm yourself by the fire.”
Cheng An pretended not to hear, the quilt was too comfortable!
However, Yu couldn’t just leave Cheng An lying in the den. He had just walked outside and a lot of snow had fallen on him. Although he had shaken off the accumulated snow, there must be some small snowflakes that melted and wet his fur.
Cheng An didn’t come over after calling him several times, so Yu knew that this little wolf cub was lazy. He walked straight over and picked Cheng An up from the den.
As expected, the fur on Cheng An’s body felt a little damp, but fortunately, he looked in good spirits.
Cheng An didn’t move. He let Yu pick him up and touch him.
Yu had no choice but to carry Cheng An over and let him sit by the fire to warm his fur.
Soon, Shitou and Xiao Hua also came over with meat.
They first took their share of the meat back to their own cave. Then they took the food for this meal, and turned into human form to carry the meat over.
Although the beast form is more resistant to cold, it is still a bit inconvenient to walk around like that. Anyway, it’s only a few steps away, and they won’t get cold just by walking here.
“An, what is this?” Xiao Hua noticed the stone pot with seeds as soon as he entered the cave. He got closer and looked at it carefully, but he didn’t dare to touch the green buds, for fear of damaging them.
Being forced by Yu to sit by the fire and roast for a while, Cheng An couldn’t sit still any longer. When Xiao Hua and Shitou came over, he quickly jumped over.
“These are the seeds I planted!” Cheng An ran up the stone steps that Yu had built for him. He stood on the edge of the stone pot and said proudly.
“Seeds? What are those?” Xiao Hua was very interested in the seeds that Cheng An mentioned.
Shitou had heard Cheng An talk about it last time when he came, so this time he didn’t even look at the stone pot, but followed Yu around. He wanted to learn how to cook broth again and help Yu.
With two more beastmen, Shitou and Xiao Hua, in the stone cave, it suddenly became much more lively.
Cheng An: “Seeds are the offspring of plants, and you can plant a lot with them.”
Xiao Hua seemed to understand, “Then, An, what seeds are you planting?”
It has been several days since the seeds were planted, and many of them have grown leaves. It can be vaguely seen that they are all vegetable seeds.
Cheng An explained: “It’s vegetable seeds.”
“Vegetables? What are those?” Xiao Hua felt a little embarrassed, because he had never heard of many of the words Cheng An said.
“Vegetables are edible grass, or relatively delicious grass.” Cheng An thought for a long time and finally came up with an appropriate and easy-to-understand explanation.
Xiao Hua nodded, “So that’s it. An, I remember there is a field of delicious grass behind the hillside. I’ll take you there when it grows.”
“Okay, okay.” Cheng An nodded and agreed happily. The source of vegetables cannot be entirely provided by the system.
The beastmen in the tribe are generally very tall, and the surrounding trees are also very tall. At first glance, this continent is rich in resources. Cheng An is looking forward to what delicious vegetables on the beastman continent look like.
After the communication between man and beast, they also came to help Yu.
However, Cheng An was just talking, Xiao Hua and Shitou were the ones who came to help.
Cheng An watched Yu cut the beef into large pieces, and suddenly found that the quality of the beef given by the system was quite good. It was actually marbled beef with fat and lean meat.
This kind of beef is most suitable for hot pot. Cheng An was drooling with greed, but unfortunately there is no hot pot base now, so he can only eat clear soup.
There is no seasoning at this time, so it is meaningless to use clear soup pot base!
The stone pot in Yu’s cave can only cook the food of two beastmen at most. Fortunately Shitou has gained experience in eating here and consciously brought the stone pot in his cave.
The meat is already cooked in one pot, and the meat that Yu is cutting is to be cooked in the second pot.
Cheng An suddenly wanted to try something new, “Yu, can we try fried beef with potatoes?”
“Fried beef?” Yu stopped cutting meat.
“Mmm!” Cheng An took another look at the beef. It was good meat with fat and lean meat. It should produce a lot of oil, and it should be cooked without water.
“How to cook it?” Shitou’s ears were sharp. He dropped the half-washed potatoes and came over.
Cheng An was almost squeezed and fell by him.
“Please stop squeezing me!”
Shitou stepped back a little. He continued to ask, “So how do you do it?”
Cheng An sat back down and licked his fur modestly. “It’s the same steps as cooking meat, but without water.”
“Can it be cooked without water?” Shitou had never heard of this method.
“Just tell me whether you want to do it or not!” Cheng An turned around and looked at Yu expectantly while his butt was facing Shitou.
Shitou touched his nose and realized that he seemed to be disliked. “Then let’s try it!” He looked at Yu after saying that.
Shitou was a clumsy cook, so he had to rely on Yu to cook.
Yu nodded and asked Cheng An, “An, tell me how to do it.”
Cheng An became happy again and clung to Yu. Yu reached out and held him on his shoulders then asked Cheng An to sit down.
“Cut the meat into smaller pieces. Then cut the extra white fat into small pieces, and put it in later. Also cut the potatoes into smaller pieces.”
When the meat was about to be put in, Yu took Cheng An down and put him farther away to prevent the oil from splashing on Cheng An and scalding him.
The fat oil came out very quickly, and the unique aroma of lard filled the cave. Cheng An took two big gulps. When he came to his senses, Shitou and Xiao Hua had approached him without knowing when, and came to see Yu cooking together.
When the lard was fried out, the oil residue became crispy. Yu took out the oil residue, sprinkled a little salt on it, and served it to Cheng An, “It’s a little hot. The food will be ready in a while, so eat it first to fill your stomach.”
This was the oil residue that Cheng An mentioned before, and Yu always remembered it.
Shitou took the stone bowl and swallowed his saliva greedily, “Can I try it?”
Shitou asked Cheng An, but his eyes were reluctant to move away from the oil residue for a moment.
Cheng An waved his paw generously, “Try two each.” It was mainly because Yu cut them into large pieces. Although a lot of oil was fried out, there was not much oil residue.
Otherwise, Cheng An would not be reluctant to give up these, and would have let them eat their fill.
Cheng An was the first to stretch out his paw, and hooked out a piece of oil residue with the tip of his paw. Then he took it into his mouth and chewed it. The oil residue was crispy! He missed the feeling of potato chips.
Shitou and Xiao Hua also followed Cheng An’s example, picked up a piece of oil residue and put it into their mouths to chew.
It tasted similar to the crispy bones, but it was more fragrant and delicious than the crispy bones!
After chewing one piece of oil residue quickly, Shitou reached out for the second piece. This time, he was reluctant to swallow it. He held it in his mouth to carefully taste the taste of the oil residue. It was salty and crispy, and he almost shed tears of happiness.
After giving the oil residue to Shitou and Xiao Hua to taste it, Cheng An did not allow Shitou to reach out again. There were only three pieces left, and he wanted to leave them to Yu, so that Yu could also taste the oil residue!
After taking out the oil residue, Yu put in the cut meat. When the surface of the meat became a little charred, he poured all the potato pieces in, covered the lid, and let them simmer for a while.
At Cheng An’s request, Yu had already classified the “potatoes” in the corner when he was bored. These were all real potatoes, but the colors were varied, some black, some red, and some purple, and the colors were very fascinating. But the taste was still potato.
The remaining two piles were taro and yam, and there were one or two pieces of something similar to arrowroot. Anyway, Cheng An kept muttering to Yu when he had nothing to do, saying that different kinds of food should not be called potatoes. Yu gradually got used to calling them potatoes, taro, and yam respectively.
Anyway, they were not difficult names to remember, so he could call them whatever he wanted.
After finishing the food, Cheng An happily showed Yu the oil residue he left for Yu, “I left it for you, eat it quickly!”
Yu felt sour in his heart, “Just eat it, no need to leave it for me.”
“How can that be? How can I not leave it for you if you made it? Eat it quickly!” Cheng An hit Yu’s knee fiercely.
Yu couldn’t resist Cheng An, “I know, thank you, An.”
“You’re welcome, you’re welcome!” Cheng An was very happy to feed Yu.
It was hard for Shitou and Xiao Hua. For them waiting for the meat to be cooked was not a difficult thing.
But when they were hungry, they tasted a very delicious food, and there was only a little bit! Didn’t this arouse their greed?
Everyone smelled the remaining fragrance of the food weakly, while staring at the stone pot heated on the fire.
“Hungry——”
Shitou protested weakly.
Unfortunately, the stone pot conducts heat too slowly, so they have to wait a long time before they can eat.
Cheng An ran to the corner and took out a few arrowroots and put them in front of Shitou, “Eat it, eat it. Eat some of this to fill your stomach first!”
“Eat this?” Shitou turned over and sat up. Can potatoes be eaten directly? He has never eaten uncooked potatoes.
“Yes! This is not a potato, it is an arrowroot!” Cheng An picked up a small peeled piece, “Like this, peel off the skin, then bite the inside. Chew it, but spit it out.”
Shitou picked up a piece of arrowroot, broke it in half, handed half to Xiao Hua, and ate it like Cheng An.
“It seems okay, it’s a little sweet! Xiao Hua, you try it too!”
Just like this, two people and a beast began to chew arrowroot, eating snacks to pass the time while waiting for dinner.
Xiao Hua ate the arrowroot and said vaguely, “This is delicious! I will dig more back next year! An, can other potatoes be eaten directly like this?”
“No! Only this one can be eaten directly. Also, this is not a potato, it’s an arrowroot! Remember it?”
“Oh! I remember it! It’s an arrowroot!”
“Yes.” Cheng An nodded happily. His cause of popularizing food names has taken another small step forward!
