Chapter 7: The Seventh Day After Transmigration – Faking an Accident and the Counter-Fake
Yun Shuning held the doorknob and immediately recognized the man standing outside the door—after all, she had just looked at his photo.
She suddenly felt grateful that her stomach pain was so severe. Maintaining her current expression was already draining all her strength. Otherwise, she might have shown her fear and shock.
She tried her best to keep her body in a relaxed state. If Yu Cheng really wanted to deal with her, he wouldn’t need to come in person.
The fact that he was here indicated that he might have some interest in her. What she needed to do now was seize that interest.
In the novel, Yu Cheng was someone who deeply craved care and attention. The female lead had used that to enter his heart.
Should she act very concerned about him?
Yun Shuning lifted her head and glanced at his exquisite and handsome face. Long phoenix eyes, a straight nose, thin lips. Her gaze slowly moved down to his neck, which was drenched in cold sweat.
She thought she was already harsh on herself, but clearly, Yu Cheng was even harsher.
He wore nothing but an extremely thin sweater, not even a coat. The temperature in the hallway was so low, yet he had sweated from the pain. Judging by his expression, he even seemed to be enjoying it.
No wonder he was the most unhinged male character in the novel—imprisoning the female lead, attempting to assassinate the male lead, and eventually using the entire Yu family as a bargaining chip, just to have the female lead spend one birthday with him.
Passionate, yet insane.
While she was observing Yu Cheng, he was also observing her.
He had to admit, Yun Shuning’s behavior over the past week had been spot-on. Right now, she looked like someone who had lost their soul—beautiful but fragile.
She wore the same thin clothing, her complexion was pale to the point of transparency, and her forehead and collarbone were covered in cold sweat. And yet, her body was completely relaxed.
Initially, Yu Cheng had come just on a whim, but upon seeing her, a flicker of interest unexpectedly sparked in him: this person… seemed a little interesting.
There weren’t many people who could make him feel that way.
At worst, after he was done playing, he would make sure she didn’t end up too miserable.
Sensing where her gaze had landed, he lowered his raised hand. The red mole near his collarbone stood out even more under the sheen of sweat. He could almost guess what she was about to say.
“Excuse me, could you move?” Yun Shuning’s voice was slightly hoarse from the pain. She indifferently glanced at the frail-looking man before her and spoke calmly.
Given her current character setting, she wouldn’t even care about herself, let alone others.
Moreover, since becoming head of the Yu family, Yu Cheng despised fake concern the most. Those people either wanted money, power, or sex.
That’s why he cherished the bit of warmth Lin Wan had given him in childhood.
Of course, she could pretend to care with sincerity and charm—but there was no need.
After all, her current character setting was far more tragic than his.
Yu Cheng was already used to women offering him boundless comfort and pity whenever they saw him, which only made him feel disgusted.
He originally thought she would be the same.
But after hearing Yun Shuning’s words, not only did he show no embarrassment or irritation, he actually seemed more intrigued.
He liked people or things that were beyond his control. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have shown up here.
“Miss Yun.” Instead of moving aside, he took two steps forward, narrowing the distance between them.
He braced himself against the doorframe with one hand, his voice low and suggestive. “Has anyone ever told you your voice is very nice?”
If someone else had done this, it would have come across as greasy, but when he did it, it was seductive—carrying an odd kind of allure.
The thin sweater hung loosely on him, and as he leaned forward, it revealed his refined collarbones and glaringly fair skin.
Yun Shuning acted as if she hadn’t noticed. Her expression remained calm as she looked at him, her eyes without the slightest ripple. “President Yu, please move aside.”
Yu Cheng let go of the doorframe and took two steps back. It seemed she recognized him. How… interesting.
He could tell her expression wasn’t one of disgust, fear, or playing hard to get—it was indifference.
He even suspected that if he leaned closer, his reflection wouldn’t appear in her pupils.
Did He Chen’s love for Lin Wan hurt her that deeply?
Yun Shuning walked forward slowly, brushing past Yu Cheng without sparing him even a glance.
One step, two steps.
Just as she was about to walk out of his line of sight, he reached out and grabbed her wrist.
Skin-to-skin contact was supposed to be warm, but for the two of them, it was like two blocks of ice colliding.
Yun Shuning wore a white V-neck knit top. The cuff of the sleeve rode up slightly, exposing the spot where Yu Cheng gripped her.
This wasn’t a suggestive gesture. The moment he grabbed her, she felt a sharp pain in her wrist. In that brief moment, she even heard the creak of bones under pressure.
Yu Cheng really lived up to being the man the male lead had to fear—he never followed the script.
A normal person, seeing her like this, would’ve already called an ambulance.
She stopped walking, maintaining her posture without even turning around. “Do you still need something?”
Yu Cheng gripped her hand even tighter and slowly walked in front of her. His dark pupils stared at her intently. “I just wanted to teach Miss Yun what the proper way to greet someone is.”
Even though Yun Shuning had cursed him ten thousand times in her heart, not a trace of emotion showed on her face.
She looked back at him calmly. The hallway light shone on her porcelain-like face, making her look like a beautiful but fragile crystal doll.
The two of them—one tense, one relaxed; one flushed, one pale—both appeared at ease in posture, yet there was a palpable sense of confrontation in the air.
After hearing what he said, Yun Shuning guessed that he already knew the original Yun Shuning had destroyed Lin Wan’s competition dress.
Yu Cheng was here to vent on Lin Wan’s behalf.
Now that she knew the reason, she needed to think of a way to handle it. But obviously, she couldn’t just directly explain everything to his face.
Even if Yu Cheng would believe her, such behavior wasn’t something the current “Yun Shuning” would ever do.
She had to do her best to calm him down, or who knew what this man—the one described in the original story as a “madman” by the female lead—might do to her?
But…
She couldn’t think of any convincing reason. Some things, if she said them, He Chen might believe. But Yu Cheng—unless you said something that perfectly aligned with what he wanted to hear, he wouldn’t even pretend to listen. On the contrary, even if you spoke the truth until your voice went hoarse, it would be useless.
You couldn’t reason with a madman. Unless…
Faced with this situation, a spark of inspiration flashed in Yun Shuning’s mind. Since he had some interest in her now, he probably wouldn’t go too far with her.
And she was a great actress—pretending to faint would be no problem at all.
The temperature in the hallway was low, and her whole body was in a state of numbness. Even so, the pain in her stomach constantly reminded her that she needed to go to the hospital.
Even if she fainted and was taken to the hospital, no one would question it.
If she collapsed right in front of Yu Cheng, he probably wouldn’t just leave her lying there on the ground… right?
Her gaze remained fixed on him, but out of the corner of her eye, she quickly calculated where she should fall and how to fall if she were to fake it.
Just as she was about to act, the hand gripping her wrist slowly let go. She froze, stunned, as Yu Cheng collapsed right in front of her.
His body hit the floor with a heavy thud, and he curled up from the pain.
Did she just get reverse-faked out?
