Chapter 19: What’s a Study Ace? This is a Study God!
Quickly, Tang Feng’s mother prepared the meal consisting of six dishes and a soup, with white rice as the staple. “Tang Feng, are you planning to come back for lunch tomorrow?” Tang Long asked while serving his son a chicken leg.
“It depends. If there’s not enough time, I’ll just grab something outside,” Tang Feng responded.
“At such a critical moment, you can’t just eat anything outside! What if you get a stomachache? No, you must come back home for lunch,” his mother insisted upon hearing this.
“Your mom’s right! This is the most important moment in your life; you cannot take it lightly!” Tang Long firmly supported his wife’s stance.
“I wonder if Xiaoli will come home for lunch tomorrow. Maybe I should call her and ask?” Tang Feng suggested to his parents.
“Do you want Xiaoli to come over for lunch?” his mother guessed.
“If Uncle Su is too busy at noon, having her come over to our place would be the best solution,” Tang Feng said with a chuckle.
“Look at you, lad, that’s all you care about! You’re so concerned about her, but does she care as much about you?” Tang Long shook his head, amused.
At that moment, the phone rang. Tang Long answered it casually. “Uncle Tang, it’s Su Xiaoli. Is Tang Feng there?”
A look of surprise appeared on Tang Long’s face. It was almost mystical how they were just talking about Su Xiaoli, and she called. “He’s here! Hold on!” he signaled for his son to take the call.
Tang Feng put down his chopsticks and took the phone from his father. “Tang Feng, I forgot to ask when we parted today. How are you planning to handle lunch during the exam days?” Su Xiaoli’s melodious voice came through.
“I was just discussing this with my parents. They want me to come back home for lunch. What about you?”
“My dad also wants me to come home. How about you come over to my place for lunch? That way, we can keep each other company,” Su Xiaoli suggested.
“With Uncle Su’s busy schedule, why don’t you come over to mine instead?” Tang Feng proposed.
“Hold on a sec! Let me talk to my dad.” After about thirty seconds, Su Xiaoli said, “My dad agrees I can come to your place for lunch. But he has one condition.”
“What’s the condition?”
“After the exams, your family of three should come over to ours for a meal.”
“No problem!” Tang Feng agreed promptly.
“Get some rest early tonight, see you tomorrow!”
“See you tomorrow!” The call ended.
Tang Feng, somewhat reluctantly, put down the phone and sat back on the sofa. “Dad, Mom, did you hear? Xiaoli said I should come to their place for lunch,” Tang Feng said excitedly.
“So, I won’t be making lunch for you tomorrow. Your dad and I will just grab something at the supermarket,” Tang Feng’s mother winked at her husband.
“Mom, no! Xiaoli has already agreed to come here for lunch tomorrow and the day after!” Tang Feng suddenly became anxious.
“I thought you really were going to Xiaoli’s place,” his mother laughed.
“But Xiaoli mentioned that after the exams, Uncle Su invites our family of three over for a meal,” Tang Feng said, picking up a fried peanut with his chopsticks and popping it into his mouth.
“Old Su, always like this, afraid of owing anyone anything,” Tang Long sighed.
“Little Feng, hurry up and eat! Get to bed early! You have an exam tomorrow!” his mother added more dishes to his bowl.
“Mom, that’s enough!” Tang Feng quickly set his bowl aside and started eating heartily.
Soon after finishing his meal, he returned to his room, checked his pencil case thoroughly, then went to the bathroom for a quick wash, and went to bed.
At 6 a.m., the alarm went off on time. He dressed in the clothes he had prepared, washed his face, brushed his teeth, and sat down at the dining table.
His mother had already made breakfast. Tang Feng wasted no time eating and immediately left the house.
Half an hour later, he arrived at the entrance of Binjiang No. 1 Middle School.
As soon as he appeared, he was surrounded by a group of classmates. “Tang Feng, you finally showed up! Tell us, where have you been these days?” Wang Tao was eager to know.
“What else could I have been doing? Tutoring Su Xiaoli, of course!” Tang Feng replied.
“Tang Feng, you really kept yourself hidden! I’ve been your classmate for three years and never realized you were a study ace!” Zhao Gang patted his shoulder.
“What study ace? Have you ever seen a study ace who sleeps in class every day? He’s clearly a study god!” Another classmate, Zhang Long, corrected Zhao Gang’s mistake.
“Right! But Tang Feng, I suspect you’ve been secretly studying at night. Otherwise, even for a study god, it’s impossible to know everything without studying,” Zhao Gang commented with a hint of jealousy.
Tang Feng just smiled, tacitly acknowledging their words. As a reborn person, he was not a child to argue over such matters; it was a waste of time.
Then Su Xiaoli arrived. Their gazes met across the distance, and her cheeks flushed with a hint of red.
Tang Feng did not avoid the gazes of others and walked straight towards her. At that moment, his eyes were only for her.
“After the exam, no matter who comes out first, let’s wait for each other over there,” Tang Feng said, pointing to an old locust tree not far away.
“Okay,” Su Xiaoli nodded. “But you’ll probably finish before me.”
Tang Feng just smiled in response.
Soon, the school gates opened, and the students entered the examination hall.
Tang Feng arrived at his examination room and sat down. He prepared his pencil case on the table and looked out the window.
The school was playing a song, “The Sun Will Always Shine After the Rain.”
After a while, the invigilators entered, and the music stopped.
The morning paper was Chinese. As soon as the paper was distributed, Tang Feng began to write furiously.
His speed was incredible. When the invigilator passed by and glanced at his paper, she was immediately captivated.
Tang Feng didn’t pause for a second and kept writing seamlessly.
After finishing the essay, he tossed his pen onto the table, took a deep breath, and looked around.
He noticed the invigilator staring at him and shivered with a start.
The invigilator smiled at him and then whispered something to another invigilator, who also came over to check Tang Feng’s completed paper.
She looked incredulous and wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent.
