Chapter 46: The Real Culprit

Ji Xueli was woken up by his voice. She blinked her eyes in a daze and met his gaze.

Duan Qingyu looked at her, still a bit confused. But the next second, she suddenly hugged him tightly. Her pleasant fragrance surrounded him.

“Duan Qingyu, you finally woke up! I was so worried!” Ji Xueli felt a weight lift off her chest, finally able to relax.

“Ji Xueli! Don’t press on the Crown Prince’s injuries!” Chengdu saw her hug him tightly and widened his eyes in shock.

“Oh, oh, sorry, sorry…” Ji Xueli quickly realized and released her grip, letting out an awkward chuckle.

Chengdu rolled his eyes at her, then immediately turned to Duan Qingyu, speaking in a gentle tone, “I brought you some porridge. Please eat a little.”

“Eat quickly, you really need to eat something,” Ji Xueli said, looking at his thin face.

Duan Qingyu’s dark eyes lingered on Ji Xueli for a moment before turning to the porridge in front of him. “How long did I sleep?”

“Three days. The doctor said you suffered a blow to the head. Xueli and I were really worried, afraid you might have brain problems,” Chengdu explained.

Duan Qingyu paused for a moment as he picked up the spoon but didn’t say anything.

There shouldn’t be any brain problems, right? Ji Xueli blinked and held up two fingers in front of him. “How many is this?”

“Ji Xueli,” Duan Qingyu glanced at her and replied casually.

“?” Ji Xueli looked at Chengdu in confusion.

“If I’m not mistaken, the Crown Prince just called you a fool,” Chengdu pondered seriously.

“……”

“I translated it for you,” Ji Xueli gritted her teeth.

“Didn’t you just look at me for me to translate?” Chengdu retorted.

“I wasn’t looking at you…”

“Sorry.”

Someone interrupted their banter. They looked towards the door, and saw Song Ruo standing there with a basket of fruit.

“Qingyu…” Song Ruo’s eyes immediately reddened when she saw him.

“How did you know I was here?” Chengdu furrowed his brows. No one had told her that Duan Qingyu was here. How did she find out?

As expected of the female lead, always well-informed. Ji Xueli rolled her eyes. Before she could hide her expression, she accidentally made eye contact with Duan Qingyu. She immediately forced a smile.

It looked like a very fake smile, and he averted his gaze.

“I heard Qingyu was in a car accident, so I came to check on him,” Song Ruo explained.

“Miss Song, where did you hear the news from?” Ji Xueli remembered that she had specifically told Chengdu to keep the car accident a secret, as it would benefit neither her nor Duan Qingyu.

Song Ruo answered naturally, “Qingyu’s assistant told me.”

Zhen Zhang? That made sense; since she was the female lead, she naturally knew his assistant.

“Qingyu, how are you now? I haven’t been taking on work for the past few days. Let me stay at the hospital and take care of you,” Song Ruo said, pulling up a chair and sitting next to him.

Duan Qingyu glanced at her, then briefly looked at Ji Xueli, but didn’t speak.

“Miss Song, I think your schedule is probably very full. I should take care of him instead,” Chengdu stood up. He was not going to give her any opportunity to get close to Duan Qingyu.

“I pushed him, and he got hurt. I still want to take good care of him,” Song Ruo said, looking at Duan Qingyu with a pitiful expression.

Ji Xueli was silent for a moment, then clapped her hands. Several people entered, carrying a hospital bed, which was placed next to Duan Qingyu’s.

Both Song Ruo and Chengdu froze at the sight of the scene.

“Xueli… what is this?” Chengdu didn’t understand.

“Since you’re both busy, why don’t I just stay with Duan Qingyu in the same room? That way, I won’t bother you, and I can take care of him,” Ji Xueli smiled, as if suggesting it, but her actions said otherwise.

“Great idea! Why didn’t I think of that? As expected, it’s Xueli who comes up with the best solutions,” Chengdu immediately clapped and cheered.

Duan Qingyu’s expression remained calm, his thoughts seemingly elsewhere.

Song Ruo subconsciously thought about the propriety of men and women keeping their distance, but this was a hospital — only the patient mattered here…

She gritted her teeth. Why did Ji Xueli have to keep getting in her way?

“Qingyu…” Song Ruo gazed at Duan Qingyu, her eyes moist with tears, her pitiful expression making everyone around her feel moved.

Duan Qingyu’s voice was cold, “I’m fine, you should go back to your work.”

It was a clear rejection. Song Ruo knew his temperament. When he spoke, he didn’t allow anyone to contradict him. She feared if she continued, she would only make him grow tired of her.

“I’ll come see you again tomorrow,” Song Ruo clenched her fists but still maintained a reluctant expression.

Ji Xueli watched as Song Ruo was convinced to leave quickly. It seemed her role as the “white moonlight” was still quite powerful.

“By the way, Qingyu, I found out who was behind the crash,” Chengdu began speaking only after Song Ruo had left.

“Who was it?” Ji Xueli asked curiously.

“Duan Youcheng,” Chengdu replied. “He cleaned up everything, but I still found some traces.”

Duan Qingyu wasn’t surprised. He knew the end result would be a deadly confrontation…

But this time, she was caught up in it too.

“Are they really this bold now?” Ji Xueli frowned. To crash into someone on the street so blatantly showed how foolish their methods were.

“He and Qingyu already hated each other to the bone, but now he’s even dragged you into it. I’ll make sure he doesn’t get away easily,” Chengdu said angrily.

Chengdu continued, “This rash action was probably because of what happened at Peony Terrace with Guan Jingru.”

Duan Qingyu, indifferent, leaned against the bedframe. “It’s fine. My dear brother gave me such a grand gift. I’ll be sure to return it with an even more spectacular one.”

For some reason, even though he was smiling, Ji Xueli felt a sense of unease…

But since she was involved and had been dragged into this, her stance was naturally with the male lead.

She paused for a moment, then spoke slowly, “Wait, I’m also involved. You can’t give a gift without me.”

These two together would never bring anything good. She had learned that since high school. Duan Youcheng was in for a rough time, Chengdu sighed and shook his head in regret.
