Chapter 72: I Don’t Want to See Who Wins
His fingertips felt as though they had just touched crushed ice, sending a shiver through her body.
Ji Xueli looked at his lowered brows, his pale skin, and the long, beautiful hands that gently gripped her ankle. For some reason, it made her feel an indescribable, almost sensual sensation…
She wasn’t lying; her foot did hurt. The earlier struggle had caused her to twist it a little.
“It hurts, it hurts…” He applied slight pressure, and Ji Xueli sucked in a cold breath.
Duan Qingyu took out some medicine for bruises and applied it to her ankle. “You really do have an injury, but you still don’t want to come.”
“How could I not want to? I really do have a problem,” Ji Xueli replied calmly.
“You just don’t want to come to see who wins,” Duan Qingyu said lazily, his movements meticulous as he massaged her ankle with great care.
“Between you and Ji Yanzhou, he’s definitely going to lose.” If it were against someone else, he might have a chance, but against Duan Qingyu…
Though he was the male lead, Ji Xueli still couldn’t help but feel that Duan Qingyu was somehow even better.
Duan Qingyu spoke in a low voice: “It seems like you want Ji Yanzhou to win.”
“No, I just think no one can beat you,” Ji Xueli quickly clarified.
Ji Yanzhou was still the one who initiated the challenge. Ji Xueli hesitated for a moment before asking, “Is the Haitang Bay project really that important to Ji Yanzhou?”
“Yes,” Duan Qingyu answered without hesitation. “Not only is it important, it’s very crucial. If Ji Yanzhou gets this project, the Ji family will earn a great deal, and he will successfully take control of the Ji Group.”
So important… Maybe she should try to help him…
No, she couldn’t interfere. If she did, the situation would change. It would be better for Ji Yanzhou to win it legitimately on his own.
“What, are you thinking of interceding for him?” Duan Qingyu glanced at her.
Ji Xueli shook her head. “No, didn’t I say before? I won’t interfere.”
“I also said that if you interceded, I’d give him a chance,” Duan Qingyu said.
“You’ve already agreed on the competition, so let’s just decide it fairly and squarely,” Ji Xueli said, avoiding the trap. She just had this feeling that if she interceded for Ji Yanzhou…
It would feel like the world was about to collapse…
Duan Qingyu raised an eyebrow lightly and helped her into new slippers. “You really don’t want to see who wins the championship?”
Ji Xueli watched him stand up, the light behind him creating a halo effect, his expression cold and aloof, making him appear even more distinguished. She had to tilt her head to look at him. “I do want to watch, but I really have plans that day.”
The competition was bound to be intense. She really wanted to watch, but she was also afraid of the tension…
Duan Qingyu didn’t respond. He went to the bathroom to wash his hands.
“Thank you, my foot doesn’t hurt as much anymore.” Once he came out, Ji Xueli changed the subject.
“Wait until Ji Yanzhou leaves, then you can go,” Duan Qingyu said as he picked up his jacket from the sofa, his expression inscrutable.
He had already seen through that she was avoiding Ji Yanzhou…
Ji Xueli explained, “I had an argument with him, so I’m avoiding the awkwardness.”
“About what?” Duan Qingyu asked, fastening his watch.
“It was just something small…” Ji Xueli didn’t know how to answer. She couldn’t say it was because of him. She couldn’t continue to make mistakes.
But it seemed like she couldn’t fix it now…
“Lili, do you know that when you lie, you instinctively bite your lip?” Duan Qingyu stared at her, as if watching his prey.
“Do I? My lips are just dry,” Ji Xueli replied, but then she instinctively bit her lip again—only to stop herself immediately…
He observed so closely? She hadn’t even noticed it herself.
Duan Qingyu shifted his gaze, his tone commanding. “In half a month, wait for me at the filming location.”
“Lili has to see me win the championship,” he said as he reached out, brushing her cheek with his hand. His voice was slow and lingering.
Ji Xueli wanted to say something, but he had already pulled his hand away and turned to leave, leaving only one last sentence.
“Rest well. I’ll take you back later.”
Though his actions had been somewhat intimate, Ji Xueli felt a chill down her spine…
It was as though if she dared to refuse him, his hand would move lower, and he would choke her.
