Chapter 33: Showcasing Superb Culinary Skills
Tang Feng entered the bedroom.
Su Xiaoli was engrossed in reading, not Sanmao’s novels but “Ordinary World.”
She seemed to have cried.
Her eyes were somewhat swollen.
“What’s wrong with you?” Tang Feng became nervous upon seeing her state.
“It’s nothing,” Su Xiaoli shook her head, quickly wiping away her tears.
“Is it because of the book?” Tang Feng guessed.
“Yes!” Su Xiaoli nodded, saying, “Reading about Sun Shaoping’s experiences during his school days made me feel really upset.”
“I think, to some extent, Sun Shaoping represents Lu Yao himself. If you get a chance, you should read Morning Starts at Noon. The first part of the book is about Lu Yao’s process of writing ‘Ordinary World.’ Whether it’s Sun Shaoping or Sun Shaan, I think they represent a portion of the young people from rural areas at that time. They were full of desire for a better life in the future. In fact, our parents’ generation was not much different from Sun Shaoping.” Tang Feng said as he took the book from her hands and put it away.
“What are you doing?” Su Xiaoli appeared surprised.
“I’m taking you out for a walk,” Tang Feng answered.
“Where to?” Su Xiaoli stood up.
“I don’t know where exactly. We can walk and talk, discuss life,” he said.
“But I haven’t read ‘Life’ yet!” Su Xiaoli misunderstood him.
Tang Feng gave her a look, smiled slightly, and said, “I mean discussing real life.”
Su Xiaoli didn’t say anything.
The two of them left the house.
Tang Feng took this opportunity to seriously discuss some issues with Su Xiaoli.
These issues included love and career.
Of course, the most important was ideals.
Su Xiaoli’s ideal was to get admitted to Jingcheng University, aiming for a continuous bachelor-master-doctorate program. After graduation, she hoped to stay at the university and become a college professor.
Hearing all this, Tang Feng just smiled.
“Do you think I’m daydreaming?” Su Xiaoli speculated.
“Of course not,” Tang Feng shook his head, “With your ability, graduating with a doctorate from Jingcheng University should not be difficult.”
“What about you? What do you want to do after graduating from college?” Su Xiaoli asked.
“I haven’t decided yet. After all, Jingcheng University is full of talents. It might be difficult for me to become the best,” Tang Feng replied.
“In my heart, you are always the best. Whether in the past, now, or in the future, it’s the same,” Su Xiaoli looked at him, her eyes filled with deep affection.
Tang Feng felt touched.
If another girl had said this to him, he would never believe it.
But he believed Su Xiaoli.
After all, before his rebirth, even when he was mediocre and faced a car accident that left him fighting between life and death, she was still by his side, through thick and thin.
He silently vowed to become the best at Jingcheng University!
In every aspect, he wanted to stand out and amaze everyone!
He wanted Su Xiaoli to be the happiest woman in the world!
“I almost forgot something.” Tang Feng took out his phone and called Su Gang.
“Uncle Su, it’s Tang Feng.”
“Little Feng, what’s up?”
“I’d like to invite you to dinner at our house tonight,” Tang Feng said.
“Okay! I’ll be there at six sharp,” Su Gang agreed readily.
Tang Feng said goodbye and hung up.
“Why did you suddenly decide to invite my dad for dinner?” Su Xiaoli was puzzled.
“It wasn’t sudden,” Tang Feng shook his head, “I had discussed it with my parents before you came. I was supposed to call after breakfast, but seeing you upset, I completely forgot.”
“Do you feel obligated because my dad treated us the other day?” Su Xiaoli speculated.
“No. Don’t think too much into it. I just wanted to invite you for a meal, nothing more,” Tang Feng replied.
“Is that really the case?” Su Xiaoli was somewhat skeptical.
“Of course. What do you want to eat for lunch? I can cook for you,” Tang Feng offered.
“You mean you’ll cook for me?” Su Xiaoli thought she had misheard.
“Absolutely! Tell me what dishes you want. As long as the ingredients are available, I can make them,” Tang Feng boasted confidently.
He was now a culinary master, capable of cooking any dish to perfection!
“That’s what you said! I want spicy stir-fried shredded potatoes and scrambled eggs with tomatoes!” Su Xiaoli didn’t hold back and made her requests.
“Xiaoli, could you ask for something more challenging? The dishes you ordered are the most basic of home cooking,” Tang Feng couldn’t help but laugh.
Seeing his reaction, Su Xiaoli burst into laughter.
“These are my favorites. If you don’t believe me, you can ask my dad during dinner,” Su Xiaoli said.
“Alright! Since you like them, I’ll cook them for you when we get home!” Tang Feng agreed.
Of course, he thought Su Xiaoli was just being considerate to avoid putting him in a difficult position.
After a walk, they returned home, laughing and talking.
“Do you want to read or watch TV?” Tang Feng asked.
“Let’s watch TV,” she replied.
Tang Feng turned on the TV and handed her the remote.
Then, he went to the kitchen to start cooking.
First, he used the rice cooker to steam the rice.
This way, by the time the rice was done, he would almost have finished cooking the dishes.
He peeled the potatoes and began slicing them.
His speed was quick.
In no time, a whole potato was transformed into a pile of shreds.
Then, he prepared the other ingredients.
Soon, a delicious aroma filled the kitchen.
Su Xiaoli, who was watching TV, glanced toward the kitchen and couldn’t help but swallow her saliva.
The smell awakened her appetite.
For a moment, she looked forward to Tang Feng’s cooking.
After a while, Tang Feng placed the two dishes on the dining table.
Su Xiaoli couldn’t wait and got up from the sofa to the dining table.
Tang Feng served two bowls of rice.
Just then, the door opened, and Tang’s mother came in.
“Little Feng, did you smell that? I don’t know whose cooking smells so good,” Tang Feng’s mother asked while changing her slippers.
“Mom, it’s the food I cooked,” Tang Feng replied.
“Really?” Tang Feng’s mother was skeptical.
“Of course! I’ve already packed the food. You can take it to dad,” he said.
His mother walked into the kitchen in disbelief.
She saw the packed dishes and a big bowl of rice.
“Little Feng, did you really make these?” Tang Feng’s mother’s tone changed.
“Yes!” Tang Feng nodded, “Are you eating here or with dad?”
“I’ll eat with your dad. Xiaoli, did he really make these dishes?” Tang Feng’s mother was still in disbelief.
After all, Tang Feng had hardly ever cooked before.
“Mother, I can vouch for him. He really made these dishes,” Su Xiaoli promptly assured.
“Good! Good! Good!” Tang Feng’s mother said three times.
She then took the bag Tang Feng had packed and left the house.
“Let’s eat!” Tang Feng called her over.
Su Xiaoli washed her hands in the bathroom, then sat down at the dining table.
“Try the dishes and see if they suit your taste. If not, I’ll find a way to improve next time,” Tang Feng said with a gentle expression.
Su Xiaoli began to eat.
At the first bite, her expression paused for a moment.
“How is it? Does it not suit your taste?” Tang Feng immediately became anxious.
Although he had mastered the culinary skills, he wasn’t sure if his cooking would meet Su Xiaoli’s taste.
After all, everyone’s taste is different.
“No,” Su Xiaoli shook her head, “Your cooking is too delicious! I really didn’t expect you to make such a common dish taste so wonderful!”
Tang Feng relaxed, his heart settling down.
“Since you like it, eat more,” Tang Feng smiled happily.
Su Xiaoli ate heartily.
Tang Feng’s appetite was also driven by her enthusiasm.
He took a bite of his own cooking.
It tasted indeed excellent.
He couldn’t help but have two big bowls of rice.
Eventually, the two of them devoured the dishes and rice, leaving nothing behind!
