Chapter 8: The Wedding Date is Set
With Xie Qingxiao’s parents present, she couldn’t just blurt out that she wanted to marry Xie Qingxiao early. It would make them think she was desperate.
Desperate girls are often worthless.
Of course, the main reason was that Lin Shan didn’t want his daughter to get married so young.
Lin Xiangyi wanted to roll her eyes at him. He ignored her before, but now he suddenly cared about her.
She subtly touched her belly.
Lin Shan’s eyes widened in shock. What did that mean? Was she implying she was pregnant?
The Xie family didn’t notice the silent conflict between Lin Shan and his daughter. However, Xie Qingxiao’s parents knew their son was also eager to get married.
They didn’t think much of it, assuming it was just young love.
They gave Xie Qingxiao a knowing look.
Xie Qingxiao’s expression was serious. “Uncle Lin, I know we’re rushing into this, but Xiangyi and I have known each other for years. I’ve only ever loved Xiangyi, and I promise to make her happy. Please give us your blessing.”
Lin Shan was speechless. He was still reeling from the shock that his daughter might be pregnant.
Xie Qingxiao’s father chimed in. “Xiangyi’s father, July 9th is indeed a bit rushed, but my wife and I love Xiangyi dearly. She’ll be treated like a princess in our family. If we get married on July 9th, we’ll do everything we can to make it a perfect wedding!”
Lin Shan finally snapped out of his daze. He was both angry and helpless. After a long silence, he finally relented. “If it’s going to be July 9th, then it’s the same day as Huihui’s wedding!”
Xiangyi hated Lin Huihui and liked Lu Dingyuan. Having their wedding on the same day… Lin Shan was worried.
Xie Qingxiao, who knew the “inside story” from Zhang Pengfei yesterday, paused and looked at Lin Xiangyi.
Lin Xiangyi didn’t mind. “Same day, same day. Saves you some trouble!”
“Hey, you!” Lin Shan’s temper flared again, but he quickly remembered the Xie family was there and suppressed his anger. He muttered, “Don’t be disrespectful!”
Turning to Xie Qingxiao’s parents, he smiled. “So it’s settled then. July 9th.”
“Very good, very good. July 9th it is,” Xie Qingxiao’s mother said happily.
The dinner was a pleasant affair for both families.
After dinner, the two families chatted for a while. The Xie family was ready to leave.
Lin Shan and Lin Xiangyi saw them off at the door. They happened to run into Chen Fengmei, who was returning home.
“Who is this?” Xie Qingxiao’s mother asked hesitantly.
Lin Shan was about to introduce her, but Lin Xiangyi cut him off. “She’s my dad’s second wife!”
Lin Xiangyi’s bluntness made Chen Fengmei embarrassed, and Lin Shan’s anger flared again.
Fortunately, Xie Qingxiao knew a little about the Lin family situation and broke the awkwardness. “Uncle Lin, Xiangyi, my parents and I will head back now. I’ll come see you tomorrow!”
He was referring to Lin Xiangyi in the last sentence. They had planned to go shopping for wedding supplies together tomorrow.
Lin Xiangyi nodded naturally. As she watched Xie Qingxiao and his parents leave, she turned to go back inside.
“Stop!” Lin Shan shouted.
“If you’re going to talk about them, don’t bother. I’m not listening,” Lin Xiangyi waved her hand dismissively. Ignoring Lin Shan’s calls, she went upstairs to her room.
Lin Shan was both angry and helpless.
Before, Lin Xiangyi disliked and targeted Chen Fengmei and her daughter, but she only did it subtly. She was dismissive towards him, but she still listened to him.
Now, she was either sarcastic or violent, and she showed no respect for him at all. She was truly impossible to manage!
Seeing Lin Shan’s helplessness, Chen Fengmei clenched her fist in frustration.
Lin Shan had a hot temper. In the past, if Lin Xiangyi dared to defy him, he would have dragged her out and scolded her.
But now, he was practically fuming, yet he didn’t take action. Deep down, he still felt sorry for Lin Xiangyi for what she had been through, right?
Heh, she was his biological daughter after all. Even though she and Huihui had been so devoted and obedient to him for so many years, they still couldn’t compare to his biological daughter!
A flash of hatred crossed Chen Fengmei’s eyes, but she quickly concealed it. She sighed sadly, “Old Lin, am I really such a failure as a person?”
She mocked herself. “I’ve served you and Xiangyi wholeheartedly for so many years. I treated her better than I treated Huihui, but now she just coldly calls me your second wife.”
Lin Shan turned back, frowning. “Xiangyi was being impulsive. You’re right to feel wronged. Don’t overthink it… You should also try to understand her. She’s been through a lot, and now she’s being forced to marry a man she doesn’t love. It’s understandable that she’s in a bad mood. If you can be more patient with her, be more patient. If she goes too far, I’ll talk to her later!”
He paused, then said, “By the way, tell Huihui too. Xiangyi has a bad temper, but she’s not someone who would intentionally cause trouble. Stay away from her for a while. Once she calms down, she’ll be fine.”
Chen Fengmei’s dark thoughts were almost visible. “…That’s all we can do. By the way, were those the Xie family? They came to propose today? Did you discuss when the wedding would be?”
She wanted to get Lin Xiangyi married off as soon as possible so she could make her life miserable.
“We did,” Lin Shan nodded, turning to go inside. “I was just about to tell you. Xiangyi’s wedding will be on the same day as Huihui’s.”
“The same day?” Chen Fengmei followed him, hesitating. “But Xiangyi likes Dingyuan, doesn’t she? Wouldn’t this be… awkward?”
“Xiangyi is about to marry Qingxiao, and Dingyuan is going to marry Huihui. What’s there to talk about?” Lin Shan was annoyed. “Besides, Xiangyi never said she liked Dingyuan. It’s probably just a rumor. Don’t spread it around.”
Chen Fengmei was speechless. This old man was becoming increasingly protective of that little b*tch.
This was a clear-cut case. Did she need to spread rumors?
“Fine, fine, I won’t say anything,” Chen Fengmei pretended to be understanding. After all, it wasn’t her daughter who was in love with a good-for-nothing. It wasn’t her daughter who was going to marry a second-rate playboy.
What was she so worried about?
Her Huihui had a proper job, and her fiancé, Lu Dingyuan, also had a proper job in the city.
She was so much better than Lin Xiangyi.
Thinking about this, Chen Fengmei felt smug.
Lin Xiangyi’s only advantage was that she was Lin Shan’s biological daughter.
Once they were married off, how could Lin Xiangyi compare to her Huihui? Her job was no match for Huihui’s, her reputation couldn’t compare to Huihui’s, and now her fiancé was no match for Huihui’s…
Their gap would only widen after they got married.
Her Huihui would be enjoying the good life with Lu Dingyuan in the city, while Lin Xiangyi would be struggling with that second-rate playboy, Xie Qingxiao.
