Chapter 11: Why Did You Suddenly Kiss Me?
When Luo Tiancheng heard that it was about a rare disease, he forgot that medical records were now interconnected, and doctors could access all his previous cases.
“Well… it’s quite complicated.”
Luo Tiancheng couldn’t exactly say, “I found a phone that’s bound to my fingerprint, and now I’m doing tasks to survive,” could he?
Qin Yue suddenly asked, “How old are you this year?”
“Huh? It’s written in the medical records, 23. Don’t I look it?”
“…You look a bit younger. By the way, do you resemble your grandfather? Or do you have any older family members who look like you?”
“Huh? No… I’ve seen photos of my grandfather and maternal grandfather, and I don’t look like them. I resemble my maternal grandma more. Why do you ask? Did you see an old person who looks like me?”
Qin Yue pondered for a moment and then asked, “What did you do on June 12th?”
“June 12th…” Luo Tiancheng felt a bit nervous.
That was the day he attempted suicide and also the day he found the phone and started doing tasks.
“Not much, just some family issues.” Luo Tiancheng began to feel anxious: Does Qin Yue know about me using the system for Life Extension?
Seeing Luo Tiancheng’s tense demeanor and recalling how he had been crying alone earlier, Qin Yue said, “Don’t worry, I was just asking casually. If you can escape death and illness, that’s a good thing. Cheer up, and I wish you a speedy recovery.”
Qin Yue returned to his office, and Luo Tiancheng became even more convinced that he knew something.
He mentioned “death” and “illness”… Come to think of it, who left this phone for me on the day I attempted suicide? And who took that photo of me?
Also, what did he mean by older family members who look like me?
Although it’s unclear what Doctor Qin knows, he probably doesn’t have any ill intentions.
After finishing the food Doctor Qin had given him, Luo Tiancheng leaned on his crutches and slowly made his way back to his ward.
Dawn was approaching; time to catch some more sleep.
At 8 a.m., before leaving work, Doctor Qin came to give Luo Tiancheng a final check-up: “Get some good rest. You can be discharged today, and the police will come to see you in the morning. It takes 100 days to heal from a bone injury, and the cast will be removed in four weeks, but you’ll still need crutches. In short, you won’t be able to walk normally for three months.”
“I’ll remember that. Thank you, Doctor Qin.”
…
The police brought the perpetrator’s family to sign a compensation agreement with Luo Tiancheng. When He Yinhui came to pick him up, Luo Tiancheng said, “Let’s go to a nice restaurant. My treat.”
“Is this how you’re using the compensation money?”
“Well, what else? Isn’t it for eating well and recuperating?”
“Alright, I won’t stand on ceremony. I’ll take you to a place with great food.”
“OK!”
He Yinhui pushed the wheelchair and steadily helped Luo Tiancheng to the car.
Luo Tiancheng said, “Could you help me with the crutches?”
“No need.”
He Yinhui effortlessly picked Luo Tiancheng up in a princess carry and placed him in the car.
Only after sitting in the car did Luo Tiancheng realize: Oh my God, I was just carried by He Yinhui! This leg fracture was totally worth it!
“Brother He, you’re so strong. You don’t seem like a nerd who plays games all day.”
He Yinhui smiled and replied, “I work out every day; it’s become a habit.”
“I’m so envious… Once I recover, I’ll definitely exercise more.”
“Exercise is good. But with your leg, you’ll have to wait at least three months before you can start moving around.”
“Right.”
…The two of them were having a meal in a private room. After the dishes were served, He Yinhui asked, “Tiancheng, do you have something you want to say?”
“…” Luo Tiancheng indeed had something on his mind but had been hesitating, and the other had noticed.
“We’re familiar enough with each other, so feel free to speak your mind.”
Luo Tiancheng drank half a glass of yogurt to bolster his courage (Doctor Qin had forbidden him from drinking alcohol), then said, “Brother He, some feelings are in the past and should stay there. There are plenty of fish in the sea; why cling to just one? I feel like you’re stuck in your past relationship and can’t move on.”
“So that’s what you wanted to say… To say I’ve completely let go would be a lie, after all, it was my first love. But to say I can’t let go isn’t quite right either.”
As he ate, he continued, “To be honest, my ex broke up with me because he fell in love with someone else. What made me even angrier was that he didn’t tell me the real reason for the breakup, and even said he missed me during the breakup call… I hate that kind of deception.”
Luo Tiancheng said angrily, “Not only was he cheating, but he also lied to you. Just delete that kind of person from your mind!”
“I hate him, but I can’t completely erase him. That’s why I don’t want to enter a new relationship; it wouldn’t be fair to my partner.”
“Are you going to wait until you’ve completely forgotten before you have the courage to face a new relationship?”
He Yinhui chuckled, “It’s not that bad. It’s just that I…”
“Just what?”
He Yinhui looked into Luo Tiancheng’s puzzled eyes, thinking about the things in his dreams, and felt a bit embarrassed: “It’s just that I don’t know if the next person I meet will be the right one, and I don’t want to gamble; it’s too draining. So, I’d rather stay single.”
“Oh…” Luo Tiancheng felt that he wasn’t good enough for He Yinhui, but he believed there would be someone better who would love him more, take good care of him, and cherish him.
“Enough about me, let’s talk about you. Once the company packages you, you’ll make a lot of money, won’t have to worry about making a living, and can focus on finding someone you like, right?”
Luo Tiancheng lowered his head and said, “I might never be able to be with the person I like.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m not good enough. Let’s not talk about this… By the way, Brother He, why did you suddenly decide to retire at the peak of your career?”
“Because after I became famous, my ex wanted to get back together and came to my team to cause a scene.”
“What? How could he do that?”
“So I understand what you said about your parents. If you also joined the team and they came to cause trouble, you’d have no choice but to leave the team.”
Luo Tiancheng gritted his teeth and asked, “What about your ex now?”
“He caused a scene in our live stream for a while, and I directly turned on the mic and said: if you’re not here to support, then leave.”
“…You’re amazing!”
“So, actually, I’ve pretty much let go of him, but sometimes I can’t help but recall some things.”
…Before going to bed that night, a sleepy Luo Tiancheng turned on the Dream Connector, carefully placed his legs on the bed, and fell asleep.
The Dreamscape today was very dark, and the environment looked like a black maze.
Luo Tiancheng searched for He Yinhui in the maze. After walking for a while, he suddenly heard a deep and magnetic voice from behind: “You’re here again.”
That voice… was it Xiao Yibo?
Luo Tiancheng recalled that when he turned on the Connector before bed, he had indeed quickly tapped it. Could it be that he had accidentally selected Xiao Yibo?
When Luo Tiancheng first activated the mission connector, he casually saved Xiao Yibo’s information into it, thinking that if he ever ran out of lifespan, he could connect to Xiao Yibo’s dreams to complete missions.
Wait, why did he say “again”? Ah, he probably thought I came to bother him for an autograph once more!
“Sorry, I was just passing by—”
Before Luo Tiancheng could finish explaining, Xiao Yibo rushed over, hugged him tightly, pressed him against the black wall, and kissed him deeply on the lips!
Luo Tiancheng was stunned: Why did you suddenly kiss me?
