Chapter 388: A Big Blow
Li Yiyi smiled and gently patted her hand, preparing to leave. Suddenly, she remembered something and stopped, turning to Jiang Hong, who was standing behind her. “Remember to close the door,” she said.
Jiang Hong watched the two of them leave with a carefree stride, sighed, and reluctantly turned to close the door. Then, he followed them at a steady pace.
The four of them gathered at the hotel entrance and, after a bit of conversation, decided to have a hearty dinner together at a nearby state-run hotel.
After dinner, the four parted ways at the hotel entrance.
Gu Weiwei turned around multiple times, watching Li Yiyi’s figure fade into the distance, clearly reluctant to say goodbye.
Beside her, Hong Shuo noticed and, half amused and half exasperated, said, “Weiwei, luckily, Li Yiyi is a woman, or I’d really think you’re already falling for someone else.”
Hearing this, Gu Weiwei couldn’t help but laugh in frustration, playfully hitting his arm. “What nonsense are you talking about?”
“Isn’t it true? Look at you. You just parted ways, and you already look like you can’t bear for her to leave. Even though you’re with me now, you’re still sneaking glances at her retreating figure. You know, it’s really hurtful. After everything, I even begged Jiang Hong to give you a pill,” Hong Shuo teased.
“What pill? What are you talking about?” Gu Weiwei asked, her curiosity piqued.
Hong Shuo, looking rather pleased with himself, took a small paper-wrapped bundle from his pocket. “This is it. I’ll tell you, the place we’re going to isn’t just any mountain. It’s said to be quite eerie, full of poisonous snakes and insects. If we get bitten, it could be life-threatening. This pill will save our lives when the time comes.” He explained with utmost seriousness.
Gu Weiwei took the small paper bundle from him, but it was so tightly wrapped she couldn’t see what was inside. Encouraged by his look of confidence, she unwrapped it, and a small brown-red pill appeared before her eyes.
“This is an antidote pill. Once we’re over there tomorrow, make sure you keep it on you at all times, alright?” Hong Shuo reminded her again.
Gu Weiwei nodded but raised an eyebrow. “This pill looks familiar. I think I’ve seen something like it before.”
“Impossible. This is an exclusive formula from Li Yiyi herself. You won’t find this on the market,” Hong Shuo replied with confidence.
“I’m telling you the truth. I really have this kind of pill. But I didn’t buy it from the market; Yiyi gave it to me. If you don’t believe me, I can show you right now,” she said, reaching into another pocket and pulling out a bottle.
Hong Shuo immediately recognized the bottle in her hand—it was identical to the one his good friend had.
“See? I wasn’t lying. I told you I have this pill too.” She opened the bottle and took out a pill to show him.
“I believe you now. I believe everything,” Hong Shuo said, suddenly realizing that they were indeed holding the same kind of pill. He felt a little embarrassed since he had hoped this pill would impress her, but now she had a whole bottle of them.
“I have ten. Do you need a few?” Gu Weiwei offered, oblivious to his mixed feelings. She just wanted to share the good stuff with the man she liked.
“No need. Keep them for yourself. This stuff is valuable. You can’t just give it to anyone. Understand? It’s a life-saving pill.” Hong Shuo, knowing how good these pills were, feared she might recklessly give them away, so he warned her once more.
Gu Weiwei smiled happily at his words. “Don’t worry, I know it’s precious. I won’t give it to anyone else. You’re not just ‘anyone’.”
Hong Shuo felt a sweetness in his heart when he heard that. He quickly glanced around, then reached out to hold her hand, whispering, “If I’m not ‘anyone,’ then who am I?”
Gu Weiwei blushed when she saw their hands intertwined. Though they were now a couple, it was still new, and they hadn’t even held hands until now.
“You… You’re my boyfriend, I know that,” she stammered, feeling her cheeks burn. The warmth from his hand in hers seemed even hotter.
At that moment, the bond between the two lovers deepened, their hearts growing closer.
The next day, Li Yiyi and Gu Weiwei had arranged to meet at the staircase.
Gu Weiwei noticed Li Yiyi coming out alone and curiously glanced behind her.
Li Yiyi, catching the movement, smiled faintly and interrupted her, “What are you looking at? Is there something behind me?”
“No, nothing. I was just surprised to see you alone. Where’s Jiang Hong?” Gu Weiwei asked shyly.
“He dropped me off at the hotel last night and went back to handle something. He hasn’t come back yet,” Li Yiyi explained with a smile.
“Oh, if I knew he wouldn’t be coming back, I would have just moved to your room to sleep with you,” Gu Weiwei said, sounding a bit regretful.
Li Yiyi smiled and linked arms with her. “Alright, let’s go. Otherwise, people downstairs will get impatient.”
Gu Weiwei nodded and happily linked arms with her as they walked downstairs.
By the time they reached the lobby, the team heading to Wushan was already gathered.
“Some people really think this whole team revolves around them, always showing up late and making us wait forever,” a sarcastic voice came from the crowd.
Li Yiyi immediately spotted the source of the comment—Liu Caifeng.
Seeing the woman hiding among the crowd, Li Yiyi’s lips curled into a disdainful smile.
