Chapter 46: You Clung to Me
The next day, Qiao Lan woke up feeling hot. Her body felt like it was in a furnace, every pore screaming in agony. Even breathing was difficult, her mouth dry as dust.
She shifted, a discomfort in her waist making her jolt awake.
The man’s handsome sleeping face was inches away. His strong arm was draped across her waist, holding her close.
No wonder she felt like she was trapped in a furnace.
Qiao Lan struggled out of his embrace, angrily asking, “Mo Qian, how did you agree to this last night?”
Mo Qian’s head was heavy. He was woken by the little woman, reached out to hug her, and mumbled, “You came to me last night. Go back to sleep.”
Qiao Lan instinctively backed away, disbelieving, “Impossible!”
She couldn’t have possibly clung to the man.
Mo Qian’s head was throbbing, his body weak. He said weakly, “Look at where you’re sleeping.”
Qiao Lan glanced at Mo Qian’s position, then at her own. A blush crept onto her beautiful face.
She didn’t want to admit it, but she had to. She seemed to be sleeping on Mo Qian’s side.
Qiao Lan mumbled, “Who knows if you didn’t carry me over?”
Mo Qian didn’t respond. His body was heavy, exhausted. He must have a fever.
Qiao Lan noticed his unusual state and quickly placed her hand on his forehead.
His forehead was burning hot, scorching her palm.
“How could you be so hot?”
Without hesitation, Qiao Lan went to the front desk and asked for a thermometer and fever medication.
The man’s temperature was 39 degrees Celsius.
Qiao Lan quickly dissolved a packet of fever medication and helped him sit up to take it.
Mo Qian looked at the black liquid in the cup, furrowed his brow, and took it without a word.
Qiao Lan said, “You’re sick. Let’s go back to the city.”
“It’s nothing. I’ll take the medicine and sleep it off,” Mo Qian said. “Let’s go to the night market tonight before we go back.”
“You’re sick, why go to the night market?” Qiao Lan made a decision, “Let’s go back now.”
Qiao Lan carried their things in one hand and supported Mo Qian with the other as they went downstairs.
She settled him in the passenger seat and drove back to the city.
Mo Qian went straight to bed after returning home.
This time, his typhoid fever was severe, and he ran a high temperature for three or four days.
Qiao Lan didn’t go to work, staying home to take care of him.
Every morning, she checked his temperature, prepared light meals, fed him medicine after meals, and was busy like a spinning top.
She couldn’t believe she was taking such good care of a man.
But thinking about how he got sick from getting drenched in the rain while taking her out, she felt a little guilty if she didn’t take care of him.
Looking at the thermometer that stubbornly refused to drop, Qiao Lan said worriedly, “We should go to the hospital.”
“It’s fine, I’ll just take some medicine.”
“But you keep getting a fever shortly after taking the medicine. It keeps recurring. Your body won’t be able to handle it.”
She was even more worried that Mo Qian’s brilliant mind would be affected.
Mo Qian said, “I know my body.”
His constitution was like this. Once he got a fever, it would recur, but he’d be fine after the first few days.
Shi Yan had medicine, and he only needed one pill, but seeing Qiao Lan fussing over him, worrying about him, he inexplicably didn’t want to take it.
Qiao Lan was still worried and ordered, “If your fever doesn’t go down tonight, we’ll go to the hospital tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Qiao Lan observed him all day. His temperature dropped in the evening and didn’t rise again until she went to bed.
Qiao Lan breathed a sigh of relief, stretched, and went back to her room to rest.
Without worrying about Mo Qian’s health, she slept soundly.
Qiao Lan’s biological clock was precise. After waking up, she went to Mo Qian’s room to check on him.
His room was empty, the bed neatly made.
Qiao Lan frowned. Where did he go?
Familiar aromas drifted from outside. Qiao Lan’s eyes lit up, and she turned towards the kitchen.
Sure enough, she saw the man busy in the kitchen.
Qiao Lan crossed her arms and asked with amusement, “You’re already cooking after just recovering?”
Mo Qian ladled the cooked porridge into a bowl, “You took care of me for so many days, I naturally have to repay your hard work.”
Qiao Lan joked, “I didn’t know you were someone who knew how to repay favors.”
Mo Qian said with deep meaning, “There are many things you don’t know.”
Qiao Lan raised an eyebrow, went back to her room to wash up, and changed into a suit before sitting in the dining room.
Mo Qian asked, “Going to work today?”
Qiao Lan took a sip of porridge and said leisurely, “Tang Hongwen’s teaching is over. Today is the day the shareholders test Qiao Zhenyuan. Of course I’m going.”
Qiao Zhenyuan had made rapid progress in recent days. Not only was he handling company affairs smoothly, but he was also adept at external dealings.
The shareholders were all amazed by Tang Hongwen’s teaching and wanted to test if Qiao Zhenyuan could truly stand on his own two feet.
Qiao Lan thought of Sun Qin’s feedback and couldn’t help but smile, “Tang Hongwen really has some skills.”
She thought no one could polish Qiao Zhenyuan’s rotten wood.
Unexpectedly, it only took Tang Hongwen ten days to transform him into a business elite.
Mo Qian’s eyes darkened, “Isn’t it just teaching him to act? The teachers at the Film Academy can do it too.”
Qiao Lan: “…”
She seriously doubted they were discussing the same topic.
Qiao Lan quickly finished her breakfast and left.
When she arrived at the company, the shareholders were all there.
This was the most complete gathering of shareholders in the company’s history.
After all, how could they not be curious when the rotten wood that had been polished for thirty years was polished to perfection by Tang Hongwen in just ten days?
Qiao Lan greeted the shareholders.
“Lanlan, are you here to watch the show too?”
Qiao Lan smiled politely, “I’m here to work.”
A shareholder who was close to her whispered, “Lanlan, the meeting is supposedly to test Qiao Zhenyuan, but it’s actually to choose between you and him.”
The reason Qiao Lao appointed Qiao Lan to such an important position was out of necessity.
If Qiao Zhenyuan could stand on his own two feet, he would definitely hand over the company to his son.
Qiao Lan’s position was precarious.
Qiao Lan smiled, “The company is Grandpa’s. No matter what he chooses, I accept it.”
Seeing her trust in Qiao Lao, the shareholder couldn’t help but ask, “Aren’t you worried at all that Qiao Zhenyuan will kick you out of Qiao’s after he takes over?”
“Not worried.”
She was eager to leave Qiao’s.
Of course, she wouldn’t be kicked out by Qiao Zhenyuan. She would leave with her newly established Lanxin and all its glory.
“Humph, stubborn as a mule!”
Qiao Yue’s contemptuous sneer came from a distance.
Qiao Lan turned around and asked with a smile, “Is the Princess of Shit also here to join the fun?”
