Chapter 18: Does Brother Not Like Candy?

“If Yu Yu finds a husband, she has to leave Father and all the brothers and sisters.”

“Is that true?” Yu Yu asked her father curiously.

Does finding a husband mean leaving Father?  Then she shouldn’t find a husband.

Feng Xiaohan looked at his two-year-old daughter.

“That’s not true. Even if you find a husband later, you don’t have to leave me.”

“And, finding a husband is not something a two-year-old should be thinking about.” Feng Xiaohan patted her head.

At the age of two, you shouldn’t be thinking about that.

“Hmm hmm.”

Qing’an delivered the food to the Flower Hall and withdrew.

Feng Xiaohan held his daughter and took her to the Flower Hall to eat.

Yu Yu held a large bowl of rice and ate happily, while Feng Xiaohan sat beside her and picked out dishes for her.

Yu Yu happily swung her little legs.  She was still very happy today because she had delicious food and her father was with her.

She would go to her brother’s house later.

After finishing her meal, Yu Yu waved to her father.

“Father, see you tomorrow.”

Feng Xiaohan nodded.

See you tomorrow.

Yu Yu went to Jiang Gu’s house.  He should be asleep by now.

Hehehe, I’ll give Brother some candy.

Maybe Brother will be happy after eating candy.

Jiang Gu came out after bathing, and he was surprised to see the little ball of fluff standing on a stool, doing something.

“What are you… doing?” Jiang Gu asked.

Yu Yu thought her brother was asleep, but then she heard a voice from behind.

“There’s a ghost!” Yu Yu panicked and tried to jump off the stool.

She didn’t step firmly and was about to fall.

Jiang Gu rushed over and caught Yu Yu.

“Are you okay?” Jiang Gu asked with concern, looking at the frightened Yu Yu.

“Yu Yu was scared.” Yu Yu patted herself, still afraid.

Yu Yu almost became flattened, like the flatbread sold on the street.

Jiang Gu put Yu Yu down and got up to light the candle.

The cellophane on the candy reflected the light of the candle.

“Candy?” Jiang Gu looked at the beautifully packaged candy.

“Yes, Yu Yu bought it.” Yu Yu nodded.

This candy was delicious, even Father liked it.

“Why are you giving it to me?” Jiang Gu looked at Yu Yu warily.

“Because the candy seller said that eating candy can make people happy, and she hoped that Brother would be happy after eating it.” Yu Yu explained.

But it seemed like Brother wasn’t very happy.

Does Brother not like candy?

Jiang Gu stared at the candy, and Yu Yu dared not speak.

What’s wrong with Brother?

“Thank you.” Jiang Gu came back to himself and said softly.

“And… I’m sorry, I was harsh to you the other day. It was wrong of me.” Jiang Gu apologized for his behavior.

“Yu Yu isn’t angry with Brother.” Yu Yu said that she wasn’t angry with her brother.

Jiang Gu hesitated, why hadn’t she come the past few days?

After a moment of hesitation, he didn’t ask.

“Next time you come, don’t sneak around.” Jiang Gu looked at Yu Yu.

“Okay, Brother.” Yu Yu looked at her brother happily.

“Brother, is the medicine Yu Yu gave you effective?”

Jiang Gu subconsciously hid his hands behind his back, his eyes flickering away from Yu Yu.

“It’s quite effective.”

Hearing her brother say it was effective, Yu Yu smiled in satisfaction.

Then she happily told her brother about what she had done today.

Jiang Gu listened quietly.

Looking at Yu Yu’s animated expression, Jiang Gu felt the vibrancy of life.

It was very late at night, and Yu Yu yawned.

“Brother, you should get some rest. Yu Yu is going home now.”  Yu Yu jumped off the stool and waved to her brother.

“Hmm.” Jiang Gu nodded.

He hesitated for a moment.

“When are you coming next time?”

“Yu Yu will come see Brother after she’s done with her work.”

Jiang Gu nodded.

Yu Yu went back to her little bamboo hut.

Jiang Gu peeled a candy and put it in his mouth. It was sweet.

He put the remaining candy away and covered himself with the blanket to sleep.

The next day, Yu Yu got up and checked her balance as usual.

[Your reward has been credited, five thousand taels]

“Wow, what is this reward for?” Yu Yu asked curiously.

[This is a reward for helping your brother. Your brother’s mood has improved a lot because of you.]

“That’s great.” Yu Yu clapped her little hands happily.

It seemed like Brother liked candy. She would buy him some more later.

[Yu Yu, do your best!] Wow encouraged her.

[You can help more people]

“Hmm hmm.” Yu Yu nodded her little head.

After washing up, Yu Yu put on her backpack, humming an unknown tune as she went out.

“Yu Yu!” Brother Youqian sat in the same spot as yesterday and called out to her.

“Good morning, Brother Youqian.” Yu Yu greeted Brother Youqian happily.

“You seem very happy today.” Brother Youqian noticed that Yu Yu had a bright smile on her face today, even her walk was bouncy.

“Yes.” She was very happy today.

Brother had become happy, so Yu Yu was happy too.

“Come on, let’s continue yesterday’s topic.” Brother Youqian pulled on Yu Yu.

“Brother Youqian, I want to eat wontons.” She hadn’t eaten breakfast yet.

“Let’s go, I’ll treat you.” Brother Youqian picked up Yu Yu and walked towards the wonton stall.

At the street stall, Brother Youqian looked at his bowl of wontons and then at Yu Yu’s bowl.

They cost the same price, why was Yu Yu’s portion so much bigger than his?

“Uncle Zhao, you’re blatantly showing favoritism.”

“Yes.” Uncle Zhao, the stall owner, nodded sincerely.

So what if he showed favoritism? Yu Yu often talked to his old mother, and she never took any money, even when she saw him, she greeted him sweetly.

What was wrong with him showing a little favoritism?

Brother Youqian: Okay then.

“Uncle Zhao’s wontons are the best.” Yu Yu said sweetly.

“If you like them, eat more.” Uncle Zhao smiled kindly and added a few more wontons to Yu Yu’s bowl.

Such a sweet child.

Brother Youqian ate and began to chatter with Yu Yu about his love life.

They talked for the whole morning.  Although Yu Yu didn’t quite understand, she listened attentively.

“Yu Yu, maybe I’m too unreliable, that’s why Qingyi doesn’t like me.”

“Yu Yu, I think Qingyi should like mature and stable men.”

“Brother Youqian, it’s no use guessing here. Only Sister Qingyi knows.”

Yu Yu said that only Sister Qingyi herself knew what kind of brother she liked.

“Right, let’s go find Qingyi.” Brother Youqian suddenly stood up, picked up Yu Yu, and ran towards the bookstore.

“Brother Youqian, Yu Yu doesn’t want to go.” Yu Yu said that it was noon, she had to eat.

“Let’s go together, I’m scared alone.” Brother Youqian said he needed someone to accompany him.

Before they reached the bookstore, Brother Youqian suddenly got scared, holding Yu Yu and hiding behind the flower stall opposite the bookstore, peeking inside.

Wisteria saw the two of them sneaking a look at the bookstore across the street.

“Brother Youqian, if you’re chasing someone, just chase them. Why bring Yu Yu along?”

“Because Qingyi likes Yu Yu, not me.” He wasn’t as likable as Yu Yu.

So he needed Yu Yu.

“Yu Yu, let’s ignore him. Sister will take you to find Sister Qingyi for lunch.”

Wisteria picked up Yu Yu and went to find Qingyi for lunch.

“Take me along.” Brother Youqian said to take him along.

He would pay.

“No.” Wisteria said no.

Why take along someone who just plays around? What if Qingyi really fell for him, and Brother Youqian’s feelings were just a fleeting crush?

Qingyi would be heartbroken. After spending some time with her, Wisteria knew that Qingyi was a gentle and clean woman with a stubborn spirit deep down.

Whether it was people or things, once she was certain of something, she would never look back.

So she wouldn’t play matchmaker for Brother Youqian.

“Qingyi, it’s noon. Let’s have lunch together. Yu Yu is here too.” Wisteria smiled and greeted Qingyi, who was reading.

“It’s noon already.” Qingyi put down her book and looked at the sun outside.
