Chapter 438: Go Back Where You Came From
Jiang Zhanpeng and Jiang Yueyue didn’t immediately call anyone, but first looked over at their biological mother to check with her, asking silently whether what she had just said was true.
Li Yiyi’s expression was a bit serious, and when she saw her two children looking at her, she gently nodded at them.
After receiving her mother’s approval, the two siblings finally called out to Jiang Huijing and Wang Fugui in turn, “Aunt, Uncle.”
“Good kids, I didn’t expect you two to have grown so tall. Uncle almost didn’t recognize you!” Wang Fugui said with a smile.
Li Yiyi, hearing this, couldn’t help but roll her eyes secretly.
From the memories in her head, despite being the aunt and uncle of the two children, this couple hadn’t given them any New Year’s money in the past years.
At this moment, Jiang Huijing was extremely hungry and had no energy to chat with the children. She stretched her neck and looked toward the kitchen, “Xiaobao, Yueyue, tell me, where are your grandparents? Are they in the kitchen making dinner?”
Upon hearing this question, Jiang Zhanpeng, in a polite manner, lightly nodded and responded, “Yes, Aunt, Grandpa, Grandma, and Aunt Huang are in the kitchen making dinner.”
“So it really is my parents cooking! No wonder the smell of food is so familiar!” After saying this, Jiang Huijing happily ran toward the kitchen.
Li Yiyi, seeing her running towards the kitchen, silently cursed in her mind. She feared that the elderly couple, upon seeing their daughter who had disappeared for more than a year, might faint from anger.
In case something went wrong, she quickly followed.
In the kitchen, the three elderly people were busy preparing dinner for the evening.
At this moment, none of the three noticed someone entering through the kitchen door.
It wasn’t until the figure called out to both Jiang Father and Jiang Mother that the elderly couple realized it was their daughter, who had disappeared for over a year, now standing there.
Jiang Father and Jiang Mother, one busy with the fire and the other with the food, stopped their actions simultaneously and then both turned to look toward the door.
Jiang Huijing thought that her parents would be happy to embrace her when they saw her, but after waiting for a long time, she was surprised to see them stare at her in shock before calmly turning back to continue their unfinished tasks.
Jiang Huijing, unable to believe it, walked toward them. “Dad, Mom, take a good look at me. I’m Huijing. I’m your daughter. Don’t you recognize us anymore?”
Saying this, she reached out to grab Jiang Mother’s sleeve, but as soon as she touched it, Jiang Mother pulled it away forcefully. “Don’t touch my clothes. And stand back. I don’t want to see you, unfilial daughter.”
When Li Yiyi saw Jiang Huijing standing by Jiang Mother and Jiang Father, looking like a child who had done something wrong, she finally relaxed. It seemed that the worst of her fears wouldn’t happen.
“Dad, Mom, I’m your daughter. How could parents blame their daughter? You’re being too petty. We’ve been struggling outside for so long. Now that we’re back with our parents, you don’t even care about your daughter and want to send her away? You’re too cruel!” Jiang Huijing’s eyes were red, full of resentment as she complained to her busy parents.
Jiang Father and Jiang Mother, who had been silently cooking, stopped their work when they heard their daughter’s irresponsible accusations. The couple put down their utensils at the same time.
Jiang Mother, furious, gritted her teeth and, holding a spatula, walked toward her daughter. “What did you say? Say that again. You think our hearts are too cruel? Look into your own conscience. Ask yourself, who’s cruel? You, or us? Look at the things you’ve done these past two years. Have you ever thought about us, your family? How could I give birth to such a selfish daughter?”
Jiang Huijing, trembling in fear, stared at the spatula in her mother’s hand, afraid it might hit her.
“Mom, just speak your mind. Why point that thing at me? It’ll hurt if it hits my face,” she said angrily.
Seeing her daughter only thinking about herself, Jiang Mother was even more furious. “Go! Go back! Don’t come here. I never want to see you again. Go back where you came from!” Jiang Mother hurriedly pushed her toward the door.
“Dad, look at Mom! What are you going to do about her?” Realizing that her mother was really about to push her out, Jiang Huijing became scared and quickly turned to her silent father.
Jiang Father gave a soft hum. “I’m not your dad. I don’t have a daughter like you. Have you sent a letter home? A telegram? You disappeared for a year, and you didn’t think about how worried we must’ve been as parents.”
Seeing that she was about to be thrown out, Jiang Huijing dropped onto the floor, crying as she said, “Are you still my real parents? I’m in this state, and you don’t help me. You want to throw me out. You’re too heartless!”
Jiang Mother looked at her daughter, disappointed. Every time she looked at her, she felt her heart ache.
To avoid losing her temper, she quickly turned away, deciding not to look at her anymore.
Jiang Huijing, seeing her mother turn away, stopped crying for a moment and then looked toward her father, crying, “Dad, I’m your daughter! I’ve been traveling for days with my husband on a train. We didn’t have money, we didn’t eat properly. We’re starving now.”
She stretched her neck to look at the pot on the stove, but the lid covered it, so she couldn’t see what was inside. However, her sharp nose told her it was definitely meat, and it smelled delicious.
“Well, that’s your fault. Why go out and struggle when life’s good at home? You think it’s easy out there? Now you know the outside world’s hardships, don’t you?” Hearing his daughter’s words, Jiang Father’s heart softened a bit.
Jiang Huijing, with red eyes and a pitiful expression, explained, “It’s not like I had a choice. How could I earn money at home? We didn’t get any land from the family. Should we keep starving and freezing forever?”
