Chapter 470: Why Are You Saying Such Hurtful Things?
Jiang Hong was so angry he couldn’t help but laugh. “So, according to you, the reason for this outcome in your marriage is all my fault, right?”
“Third Brother, if you think that’s true, then fine. After all, you’re responsible for this situation too, so you can’t blame us,” Jiang Huijing quickly chimed in, continuing his line of thought.
Jiang Hong laughed again, fuming with frustration. These past few years, due to being stationed in the team, he hadn’t spent much time at home. Now, he was realizing just how unreasonable his younger sister really was.
“Since he’s already in the police station, how could he possibly be out now? Does your boss not want to pursue the matter anymore?” After calming down, he immediately turned to Wang Fuguo, who was standing next to Jiang Huijing.
“It’s all thanks to Third Sister-in-law. If it weren’t for her help, my brother Fuguo wouldn’t have gotten out so soon. Third Sister-in-law, thank you for saving my brother Fuguo. Don’t worry, in the future, my husband and I will repay you properly.” Jiang Huijing suddenly seemed to forget the fear she had just moments ago. With a smile, she gratefully turned to Li Yiyi.
Li Yiyi looked at Jiang Hong, whose face had darkened, and sympathetically glanced at her before replying, “There’s no need for repayment. Just make sure you two don’t cause us trouble in the future.”
“You’re asking my wife to clean up after you?” Jiang Hong’s anger flared as he finally understood how Wang Fuguo had managed to get out of the police station. At this point, he even felt like giving Wang Fuguo a good beating.
“What do you mean by ‘clean up after us’? Third Brother, you’ve read books, how can you say something so hurtful?” Jiang Huijing laughed, trying to reason with Jiang Hong.
“I’ve been polite enough with you. While I was away these past few days, you two managed to get into this huge mess. Fine, but now, you expect my wife to clean up your mess? You really have no shame.” He sneered at them both.
“Third Brother, let’s talk this over calmly. We know we were wrong, but you also know we don’t have anyone else to turn to here. When something like this happens, the first people we think of are you and Third Sister-in-law.” Wang Fuguo, hearing the anger in Jiang Hong’s voice, immediately knew things were bad. Not daring to be scared of his brother-in-law, he quickly stepped forward to explain.
“Tonight, you’ll stay here for the last meal, and tomorrow morning, I’ll take you to the train station. You’re going back to your hometown immediately,” Jiang Hong commanded after taking a deep breath.
The young couple reacted strongly to the order.
“No, I’m not going back. I want to stay here, I won’t go back to our hometown,” Jiang Huijing shouted.
“Third Sister-in-law, help me talk to Third Brother, tell him not to send us back to our hometown,” she looked at Li Yiyi, pleading for help.
Wang Fuguo, with a determined look, turned to Jiang Hong and said, “Third Brother, Huijing and I won’t go back to our hometown. Don’t worry, we’ll leave here tomorrow. We’ll make it on our own and won’t cause any trouble for you in the future. Please trust me.”
Seeing the sincerity in Wang Fuguo’s expression, Jiang Hong weighed it in his mind, then seriously replied, “I hope you’ll do what you say and not disappoint anyone again.”
Wang Fuguo clenched his fists tightly. “I won’t. I’ll work hard and won’t make any more mistakes.”
After these few days in the police station, he’d realized that there’s no shortcut in life. When you make a mistake, you have to pay the price. Only by working steadily can you live the best life.
“Alright,” Jiang Hong said with a cold expression.
Seeing the tension rising, Li Yiyi broke the silence. “Okay, enough about this. Let’s eat, the food is ready. If we don’t eat now, it’s going to get cold.”
“Right, right, let’s eat. If I’d known you were coming back, Third, I would have cooked something better,” Jiang’s mother added.
Jiang Hong looked around at the family he hadn’t seen in days, feeling a sense of warmth wash over him. All the earlier frustrations seemed to vanish. “Alright, let’s eat. I’m hungry too.”
With that, the atmosphere lightened, and the two kids started playing.
“Stop standing around. Go take a bath, and when you’re done, come eat,” Li Yiyi told Wang Fuguo, who still smelled terrible.
“Okay, thank you, Third Sister-in-law, for speaking up for Huijing and me,” Wang Fuguo said gratefully.
“We’re family. Third Brother was just angry because of your irresponsible behavior. He cares about you, that’s why he was upset,” Li Yiyi reassured him.
“I understand, I know Third Brother meant well,” Wang Fuguo nodded.
“Good. Huijing, take Fuguo to bathe, and later you can come back to get his clean clothes,” she instructed Jiang Huijing.
“Got it, thank you, Sister-in-law,” Jiang Huijing replied.
Twenty minutes later, after Wang Fuguo finished his bath and returned, he noticed the food on the table untouched. He immediately realized they were waiting for him to join them.
As he sat down, a mix of gratitude and guilt filled his heart. While eating dinner, he silently vowed to himself that from now on, he would be a better person, working honestly and never again thinking of shortcuts to make money.
That night, Li Yiyi was kept awake for most of the night by her husband, who had just returned from a mission. Despite the exhaustion, she slept soundly in the end.
The next morning, she was the last one to wake up in the family.
Looking at the quiet house, Li Yiyi brought breakfast to the yard and asked the three elders who were working in the garden about Jiang Huijing and her husband’s situation.
“They left early this morning after breakfast, carrying a lot of things. They’ve gone to live somewhere else,” Jiang’s mother answered calmly.
Li Yiyi studied her expression as she said this, noting how calm she seemed, as if it hadn’t affected her.
Soon, Jiang’s mother noticed Li Yiyi’s gaze and smiled, “I’ve come to terms with it. Our children will have their own lives. Your father and I are getting old, and we can’t look after them forever. It’s time to let go and let them find their own way. Whether they succeed or not, it’s their own fate.”
Jiang’s father, listening to his wife, nodded in agreement.
Li Yiyi felt relieved to see them so accepting.
After breakfast, she leisurely rode her bicycle to work, arriving about an hour later.
At this point, she had adopted a relaxed attitude, not eager to work hard, and avoiding anything that could be avoided.
