Chapter 471: Has the Research Been Done?

Today, she came to the research lab to study the equipment here properly.

She had just started working on a machine when suddenly, from the neighboring lab, bursts of laughter filled the air.

“We did it! It’s a huge success, it’s really great, we’ve finally succeeded!”

Hearing this, Li Yiyi frowned and set down what she was doing, walking towards the neighboring lab.

As she reached the door, she bumped into Ito Jing, who was coming out.

“Li, I have good news for you! Our immortality drug has been successfully developed!” he said, his face filled with excitement.

Upon hearing this, Li Yiyi furrowed her brows even tighter. “Are you sure the drug you’ve developed is an immortality drug and not poison?”

From what she knew, the data they were working with had some issues. She had mentioned this to them once or twice, but instead of taking her concerns seriously, they believed she was trying to sabotage their achievements and began secretly guarding against her.

Seeing this, she stopped bringing it up. As long as her own work was fine, that was enough.

But from what she understood, the data they were working with could hardly produce an immortality drug—let alone one that could even be considered a health tonic.

Ito Jing, hearing her skepticism, chuckled softly. “Li, you’re joking again. How could it be poison? This drug was developed by top scientists from all over the world. There’s absolutely no problem with it.”

Seeing how confident he was, Li Yiyi smirked slightly. She knew that no matter what she said, he probably wouldn’t believe her. On the contrary, he’d likely think she was narrow-minded and didn’t want them to succeed.

“I hope the drug really works as you say,” she said with a cold smile.

“Of course it will work! I’m very confident in the drug we’ve developed. I’ll call Mr. Tanaka Ichiro right now to tell him the good news!” he said, visibly excited, and turned to run out.

Li Yiyi opened her mouth, looking at the joy on their faces, but ultimately decided to swallow the words she hadn’t spoken. It wasn’t worth it to make herself the target of their anger.

While they celebrated, Li Yiyi quickly turned back to the other lab. She knew her time here was limited. After all, she had been brought in for the immortality drug research, and now that the drug had been developed, she, as a temporary employee, would naturally return to where she came from.

So, she planned to take advantage of her remaining time here to learn as much as she could from the work, making her time worthwhile.

Half an hour later, as she was deeply engrossed in learning, the cheers from the neighboring lab grew louder, until she looked up and realized that it was Tanaka Ichiro being pushed into the lab.

Watching Tanaka Ichiro, who seemed to be getting worse, Li Yiyi couldn’t help but smirk. She wondered whether the drug would turn out to be an immortality pill or a death-inducing one after all.

Before she could finish her self-mocking thoughts, she saw Ito Jing standing at the door, looking embarrassed.

“Is there something you need?” she asked, opening the lab door and looking at him.

Ito Jing hesitated for a moment before speaking. “Li, um, Mr. Tanaka Ichiro would like to see you.”

Li Yiyi couldn’t help but smile coldly at his words. “Is he planning to show off to me?”

Ito Jing hadn’t expected her to guess correctly. His expression grew even more awkward. He remembered how Mr. Tanaka Ichiro had smugly asked him to fetch Li Yiyi when he discovered she wasn’t in the lab, eager to share the good news with her.

Seeing his embarrassed look, Li Yiyi knew she was right. She smiled again, coldly. “I understand. I’ll go with you now.”

“Li, if Mr. Tanaka says anything unpleasant, please don’t be upset,” Ito Jing suddenly said as they neared the lab, his face pleading.

Li Yiyi looked at him and smiled. “I didn’t expect Mr. Ito Jing to be so loyal to him.”

Ito Jing smiled awkwardly. “Mr. Tanaka Ichiro helped me a lot. Back when I was struggling in my country, no one believed in my research. Only Mr. Tanaka saw its potential and brought me into his team. Without his help, I wouldn’t be where I am today. He’s my benefactor.”

Li Yiyi nodded, understanding but unable to relate to his experience. She said, “I can only promise you this: if he speaks ill of me, I will not tolerate it.”

Ito Jing smiled and nodded. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. Let’s go in now,” she said, and pushed open the door to the lab before him.

The moment she stepped into the lab, the lively atmosphere inside suddenly stopped. All eyes turned to her.

“Li, we meet again. I assume you know the good news today, so I won’t waste time with pleasantries. What do you think? Weren’t you saying that there’s no immortality drug in this world? Now that we’ve developed it, are you disappointed?”

Maybe it was because of the joy of success, but today, Tanaka Ichiro spoke more forcefully than usual.

Li Yiyi remained expressionless, looking at him. “Congratulations. I hope you can achieve your goal.”

Tanaka Ichiro hadn’t expected such a calm response from her. He was puzzled, thinking she should be embarrassed or ashamed now that they had developed the immortality drug.

After all, this was the same woman who had once said there was no such thing as an immortality drug.

“Now that I know your immortality drug is finished, can I leave?” Li Yiyi asked, raising an eyebrow at the strange look he was giving her.

Tanaka Ichiro spoke again. “Why aren’t you surprised? Have you finally realized that your previous statement was wrong? There really is an immortality drug in this world, isn’t there?”

Li Yiyi smirked. “I stand by what I said. I’ve always believed there’s no immortality drug in this world. As for why you were able to create one, I don’t know. But I advise you, don’t take that drug.”
