Chapter 484: Earthquake?
Upon hearing his words, Jiang Yueyue secretly rolled her eyes. “The lies sound nice, but the truth is harsh, really harsh.”
Jiang Zhanpeng seemed completely unaware of her criticism, immersed in his own self-admiration. “I think I sang pretty well, quite authentic, it almost felt like I was living in the atmosphere of Shanghai Beach.”
As he said this, he suddenly slapped his thigh, as if he had just remembered something important, and loudly shouted, “I’ve got it! I finally figured it out!”
His shout startled everyone in the living room, especially the three elderly people. They had been on the verge of dozing off, but his yell immediately snapped them awake.
“What’s going on? Did the earth shake?” Jiang’s father exclaimed, standing up in shock.
Jiang’s mother and Aunt Huang couldn’t help but laugh when they saw his reaction.
“Grandpa, it’s not an earthquake, my brother just yelled. Don’t be scared,” Jiang Yueyue explained, then shot a glare at her mischievous brother.
Jiang Zhanpeng realized his mistake and smiled sheepishly at his sister.
At that moment, Jiang Yueyue noticed their mother standing at the door, and cheerfully called out to her, “Mom, you’re back.”
Li Yiyi smiled as she walked in and cast a quick glance at her guilty-looking son. “What did you just say you figured out? Tell me, what did you come up with?”
Jiang Zhanpeng secretly peeked at his mother, relieved to see no anger on her face. He relaxed and spoke more confidently. “Alright, Mom, I’ll tell you. I’ve figured out what I want to do. You see, my sister studies aerospace, and I… I want to study weapons. What do you think of my idea?”
Li Yiyi nodded lightly after listening. “It’s a good idea. But I remember you were talking about making airplanes before. How’s that project going?”
A while ago, Jiang Zhanpeng had locked himself in his room, working on making a plane, inspired by his sister’s recent achievement. But no one had seen the result of his work.
Jiang Zhanpeng hadn’t expected his mother to remember, and now he looked embarrassed, mumbling, “Well… I’ve decided not to work on the airplane. It’s too complicated for me. Weapons are more my thing.”
Li Yiyi smiled knowingly and gently patted his shoulder. “I hope you stick with it this time. Don’t be like last time—fishing for two days and drying nets for three.”
“Mom, you’re underestimating me. I won’t do that. This time, I’ve really found my direction. I’m going to be as awesome as my sister!” He then turned to his sister. “Sis, I remember you have a lot of books in your room. Can I borrow a few?”
Seeing the seriousness in her little brother’s face, Jiang Yueyue nodded. “Sure, you can borrow them, but I have one request—don’t dirty my books. If you ruin even one page, I’ll be upset.”
“No problem, I’ll take good care of them. I won’t dirty them,” Jiang Zhanpeng happily agreed.
Li Yiyi noticed that the siblings had already made arrangements, so she walked over to the dining table. To her surprise, there was a watermelon.
“Where did the watermelon come from?” she asked the three elderly people.
“It was brought by Hui Jing and her husband. They came by this afternoon and said they found a job at a construction site. It’s a bit tough, but they have food and accommodation, and the pay is decent,” Jiang’s mother explained happily.
“Is it reliable?” Given their past experiences, Li Yiyi was subconsciously concerned they might be deceived.
“It’s reliable. The boss manages dozens of people, so it should be fine,” Jiang’s mother reassured her, sharing what she had learned from her daughter and son-in-law.
“That’s good, as long as they found a job,” Li Yiyi said, genuinely happy for them.
Around 10 PM, Jiang Hong, who had been busy all day, finally returned home.
“Dear, you’re still up so late, were you waiting for me?” He walked into the room and, seeing her sitting on the bed reading, walked over with a happy smile and hugged her.
Li Yiyi laughed and slapped his arm, playfully saying, “Let go, you smell of sweat. It’s terrible.”
Upon hearing that, Jiang Hong grinned, cupped her face with both hands, and gave her a forceful kiss on the lips. “Don’t worry, we’ll stink together.”
Li Yiyi chuckled and lightly slapped his arm again. “Hurry and take a shower.”
“Yes, dear,” he replied, giving a mock salute before happily turning and walking out of the room.
Two minutes later, he returned to the room with droplets of water still on his head.
Li Yiyi quickly grabbed a dry towel and said, “How can you be an adult and not even wipe your hair? Come over here, let me help you dry it. Otherwise, when you’re older, I’ll wonder how you’ll manage.”
Jiang Hong smiled, listening to his wife’s nagging, and obediently sat beside her, enjoying her care.
After about ten minutes, when his hair was finally dry, she stopped.
“You’ve been coming home late these past few days. Is everything okay?” she asked, concerned.
“If it’s some kind of secret I shouldn’t know, you don’t need to tell me,” she quickly added, aware of his work’s confidentiality.
“It’s not exactly a secret, but there’s a friendship match coming up with R country. It’s supposed to be friendly, but after how they’ve treated us in the past, we’re finally getting a chance to settle the score. This time, we plan to make them experience what it’s like when there’s no return.”
Li Yiyi listened, then said with a concerned tone, “I don’t care how you settle things with them, but I have one request—take care of yourself.”
“Don’t worry, dear, I’ll take care of myself,” he promised, lowering his head to kiss her forehead.
Li Yiyi smiled and pushed him away, then began to tell him about her own experience that day.
“Dear, you see, my intuition was right. I always thought that guy, Ito Jing, wasn’t a good one. You didn’t believe me, but now you do, don’t you?” Jiang Hong said excitedly, holding her hand and bringing up old memories after hearing her story.
