Chapter 75: Shock / Becoming a Father
The trees on the island looked lush and green, but it didn’t seem like anyone lived there. Qian Xiaolan dropped the anchor into the sea, locked the cabin door, and took a machete and went up the mountain. She wasn’t in a hurry to find the treasure. She thought that today’s seafood feast was already great, but it was still missing something. If she could add some fresh mushrooms, it would be even more delicious. When she got to the mountain, she found many mushrooms.
Qian Xiaolan picked the edible ones first, then the poisonous mushrooms that could make people go stiff. For a skilled doctor, any herb, whether poisonous or not, could be used to its full potential. Qian Xiaolan walked and picked mushrooms with a purpose, and it took her more than an hour to reach the chicken-shaped stone. There was indeed a cave below the stone.
The cave was dark and pitch black. Qian Xiaolan shone her flashlight inside, and it immediately caused a flurry of flapping sounds. She quickly took a motorcycle helmet out of the space and put it on, then took two powerful flashlights and swept them into the cave. Soon, the flapping sounds came towards the entrance of the cave. Qian Xiaolan squatted down and waited for the bats to fly away before entering the cave. There was nothing in the cave except bat droppings.
She felt relieved. Digging a hole was tiring, so she simply turned on the space detection function. There were indeed two wooden chests at the entrance of the cave. Qian Xiaolan collected them into the space, then expanded the detection range. Soon, she had scanned the entire island. On the other side of the island, she found over ten similar chests underground.
The chests were filled with glittering jewels, gold, jade, paintings, and porcelain, but there wasn’t a single piece of calligraphy or porcelain. Qian Xiaolan guessed that the person who buried so many treasures on the island was either a corrupt official or a vicious pirate. As for why the ghost knew about it, it was none of his business. It had been hundreds of years. As long as she got the money, it was fine.
Qian Xiaolan was very happy to have obtained so many treasures. She collected the truckload of paper money that Wenxuan had put on the shelves and added the same amount. Then, she took out all the paper money, found an empty spot on the island when it was dark, and started burning it slowly. To avoid being discovered, she didn’t dare to burn too much at once. She had to divide it into many small piles and burn one pile after another.
Each time she burned a pile, she had to say a name and date of death, urging them to come up and collect it, so that it wouldn’t be snatched by other wandering ghosts. The task was too heavy, and Qian Xiaolan couldn’t handle it alone, so she called Xiaoqi out to do the hard work. From afar, a thin figure stood in the flickering firelight, his expression flickering. Every time she turned around, there was always a pile of paper burning without fire behind her. The scene would scare the wits out of anyone who hadn’t seen much of the world. After burning nine whole truckloads of paper money, Qian Xiaolan was almost exhausted. Making money was too hard. This wasn’t something a human should do! She was covered in smoke and fire, so Qian Xiaolan quickly went into the space to wash up and then, exhausted, lay down and fell asleep in the small space.
The sleeping Qian Xiaolan had no idea that a fishing boat was slowly approaching the shore under the cover of night. The people on the boat saw her boat parked on the shore and called out for a long time, but they didn’t get any response. They thought the people inside were asleep, so they stopped calling. However, there was a woman on the boat who had been seasick for a long time and kept vomiting. She didn’t want to sleep in the same cabin as the other men, so she insisted on going ashore to rest. Her boyfriend felt sorry for her, so he took her ashore, looking back every few steps. There was also a man and a woman who were a couple.
They didn’t want to leave at first, but Wan Qian kept winking at them. Helpless, they got up and followed the first two. As a result, the four of them walked and walked until they reached the place where Qian Xiaolan had burned the paper money. There were piles and piles of ashes, and some unburned paper money was being blown around by the wind. It was like they had wandered into a graveyard. The two women screamed in fright, “Ah! Ghosts!” After screaming, they collapsed to the ground. The two men were also scared, but they were worried about their girlfriends, so they braved their fear and went to call them. Qian Xiaolan was sleeping soundly when she was awakened by the sharp, piercing sound. She looked outside the space and saw four people on the island.
She frowned. She had entered the space directly from the fire, and now she was only about seven or eight meters away from them. Qian Xiaolan didn’t want to get involved, but she heard the two men talking. They were both from the art troupe. Moreover, she had been watching for a long time, and the cowardly man hadn’t carried his two girlfriends yet, so she couldn’t help but intervene. She quietly left the space while the four of them were facing away from her, then ran back a little and made a loud noise coming towards them. “
What’s going on here?” Even so, Qian Xiaolan’s voice startled the two men. They got up in a panic and said in a threatening voice, “Who? Who’s there? Is it a human or a ghost?” Qian Xiaolan rolled her eyes helplessly and shone her flashlight on her face, “I’m a human. What are you afraid of?” It was even scarier, okay? Jiang Zhibing stammered, “You say you’re a human, so you are? It’s late at night, on this deserted island, surrounded by ashes from paper money. You look suspicious no matter how you look at it.” Qian Xiaolan shone her flashlight accurately on his face, “Yo, you’re quite articulate. It seems you have some courage, but not much.”
Jiang Zhibing was speechless. He shouted loudly, “We’re not afraid of you. We’re from the army. We’re on the side of justice.” Qian Xiaolan shook her head and walked towards them, pointing at a woman on the ground, “Don’t be silly. This woman doesn’t look very good.
If you don’t treat her, she might be in danger.” When it came to his girlfriend, Jiang Zhibing immediately looked down and saw her curled up, clutching her stomach. He immediately became nervous, “Yu Qiao, Yu Qiao, what’s wrong? Can you save her? As long as you can save her, I’ll do anything!” Jiang Zhibing said these words with a look of self-sacrifice. Even his companion was moved. However, his companion looked at Qian Xiaolan’s vague outline in the moonlight and thought, based on her figure and appearance, he could actually do it too. Qian Xiaolan handed the flashlight to Jiang Zhibing, “Hold it.
” Jiang Zhibing instinctively took two steps back. Seeing that Qian Xiaolan didn’t intend to harm anyone, but simply squatted down to check Yu Qiao’s pulse, he took a step forward. “The pulse is deep, thin, and weak… She might be having a threatened miscarriage. Get her back on the boat now. If she lies on the ground for a while longer, it will be too late to save her.” Jiang Zhibing was stunned, “What did you say?
What miscarriage? What do you mean?” He, he, he had never touched Yu Qiao, how could she be having a miscarriage? Seeing his reaction, Qian Xiaolan snorted and a gleam of light flashed in her eyes. Her voice was clear and distinct, reaching Jiang Zhibing’s ears, “Your girlfriend, Yu Qiao, is two months pregnant. Congratulations on becoming a father!” Jiang Zhibing finally understood and sat down on the ground with a thud.
