Their current concern was not about the examination itself, but about how to satisfy the Dandy Scholar.
When Wang Jinhe and the others returned home, they were surprised to find that Su Yu was not there. “Young Master isn’t at home?”
The steward looked at Wang Jinhe with a mournful expression. “Your Highness, when you’re not here, the Master doesn’t stay at home and lives in the palace every day.”
“I wonder what’s so good about that palace. Can the bed there be as comfortable as the one at our home?” the steward grumbled as he looked at Wang Jinhe.
Wang Jinhe twitched his mouth as he looked at the steward. Wasn’t the steward saying a bit too much?
“Then send a message to him. He’ll come back in the evening,” Wang Jinhe said, thinking that Su Yu would probably return as soon as he received the message.
“Understood,” the steward said cheerfully as he went to deliver the message to Su Yu.
Su Jiu knew that after Wang Jinhe and the others arrived, Su Yu had left everyone behind and walked away, completely disregarding the matters they had just discussed.
While the others were unsure whether to call him back, Su Jiu had already taken action to bring him back.
“Xiao He can’t run away from home. As the chief examiner, you are responsible for reviewing the test papers,” Su Jiu explained, seeing Su Yu’s displeased expression.
Su Yu snorted and looked at Su Jiu grumbling, “Your share for this year’s profits will be split in half.”
“Okay.”
Su Yu suddenly felt a sense of frustration, as if punching cotton.
Su Jiu didn’t care at all. What use did he have for withholding half of the profits?
“Hurry up and set the questions, then I’ll take them back to review,” Su Yu practically said, “Speed up and don’t delay me from going home to see my wife.”
All those responsible for setting the questions hastened their pace. Once the ink dried, Su Yu took all the questions directly. As for which questions would be selected later, no one knew.
Su Yu brought the exam questions home. When she returned, Wang Jinhe and the others were resting. Even the energetic Xiao Bao had fallen asleep.
After spending some time in Xiao Bao’s room, he reached out and gently rubbed his son’s head, murmuring, “It seems like the rush has worn out our son.”
When Wang Jinhe woke up, Su Yu was busy nearby. “When did you come back?”
Hearing Wang Jinhe’s voice, Su Yu set down her brush and walked over to embrace her. “Awake now? Tired from the journey?”
Wang Jinhe leaned against Su Yu, her voice somewhat languid. “Who wouldn’t be tired from traveling?”
“You’re right. Then go back to sleep for a while.”
“I’m hungry.”
“Then let’s eat first. I’ll go check if our kids are awake.”
“Okay.”
As Wang Jinhe left, the children gathered around Su Yu.
After having a meal and resting in the room, Wang Jinhe lay on the bed, watching Su Yu still busy. “Why did you decide to become the chief examiner?”
“The Emperor asked me to do it. I’m currently responsible for reviewing the test papers and selecting the suitable ones to present to the Emperor. As for the topics for the examination, it will depend on what the Emperor chooses,” Su Yu explained.
“When Big Brother and the others come, let them stay at home, but I probably need to lay low to avoid suspicion when they arrive,” Su Yu said, frowning.
Does that mean he have to stay in the palace? That’s not what he wants.
“They probably won’t stay at home. They might stay together,” Wang Jinhe said.
“After they arrive, the inns and such are probably already full, so it might be difficult to find a quiet and comfortable place to rest,” Su Yu shook his head.
During the imperial examination, the capital was always crowded, and now it was possible that they wouldn’t be able to find a place to stay. Moreover, when they arrived, it would be even more difficult.
Wang Jinhe hadn’t considered this issue. “Alright, let Big Brother and the others stay at home. They need to rest well for the exam.”
Five days before the examination, Wang Jingyu and the others finally arrived.
At this point, finding a room at an inn was basically out of the question. They had checked several places, but there were no available rooms.
Turning to Wang Jingyu, Su asked, “Jingyu, can we stay with your sister and brother-in-law? We can’t find a place to stay.”
The others nodded in agreement. “A Su is right. If we don’t rest well, how can we take the exam?”
“Alright, then let’s stay at Xiao He’s house, but be prepared,” Wang Jingyu said after considering for a moment, looking at the group.
“What do we need to prepare to stay at your sister’s house?”
“You’ll find out when the time comes,” Wang Jingyu said, leading them to find Wang Jinhe and Su Yu’s house.
In the end, because the capital was too large, they couldn’t find a place to stay, so they had to ask the locals in the capital.
“Excuse me, where is the residence of the Imperial Prince Yu?”
“Go straight ahead for two more streets, then turn left and keep going straight.”
“Thank you, sir.”
After asking for directions, Wang Jingyu noticed that the people around him had stopped moving. “What’s with the looks? What’s wrong with me?”
“It’s not about what’s wrong with you, it’s about what we want to ask. Why are you looking for the Imperial Prince Yu’s residence?”
“Isn’t it because you said we couldn’t find a place to stay? If we can’t find my sister’s house, we have to ask, right?”
Luo Su glared at Wang Jingyu through gritted teeth. “We didn’t mishear that girl calling you ‘brother-in-law, Your Highness.'”
That girl turned out to be a princess.
“This is not the place for discussion. Let’s go.”
“Whom are you looking for?” They were stopped by the gatekeeper when they arrived at the Royal Mansion of Imperial Prince Yu.
“I’m Wang Jingyu, Wang Jinhe’s brother.”
“Whom are you looking for?” They were stopped by the gatekeeper upon reaching the entrance of the Yu Wang Mansion.
“I’m Wang Jingyu, Wang Jinhe’s brother.”
“Oh, you’re our princess’s brother. Please come in, gentlemen.”
Luo Su stared blankly at the gatekeeper and asked in confusion, “Don’t you usually announce visitors at the Royal Mansion?”
“If it were someone else, we would, but for the princess’s brother, it’s unnecessary. The princess informed us a few days ago that if someone named Wang Jingyu came with friends, they should be allowed in without announcement.”
“I see.”
“Young masters, our lord and lady have been very busy lately, so they are not at home during the day. The young masters and miss have also gone to the Su family’s old residence. Let me show you to your accommodations first, and then I’ll inform our lord and lady.”
“Thank you for your help.”
“Not a problem.”
After leading them to a side courtyard, the gatekeeper said, “If you need anything, please inform the staff. The princess instructed that you should rest upon arrival.”
“Understood.”
After the gatekeeper left, Luo Su hadn’t reacted yet. When he finally did, he ran over and hugged Wang Jingyu. “Jingyu, you’re so unkind for not telling us.”
“Xiao He and the others wanted to keep a low profile, so they didn’t want people to know they are the Imperial Prince and the Princess,” Wang Jingyu explained. If their identities were exposed, their lives in Xie’s village would change completely, which was not what Xiao He wanted.
Since it was his sister’s wish, as her older brother, he naturally had to comply.
“That makes sense. Now that your sister is the County Princess, people are already nervous talking to her. If they knew she was a real Imperial Princess, it would be even more difficult. It’s better this way.”
The others nodded in agreement. “A Su is right. After traveling for a few days, it’s time to rest.”
