Chapter 27
Bai Yan’s cheeks moved slightly due to chewing.
Looking down from Meng Hechuan’s perspective, she looked like a squirrel that had come out of a hole to look for food, with her mouth full of food.
After she finished eating a piece, she opened her mouth again. Meng Hechuan paused for a moment and handed it to her in silence.
But he was very sensible and would take the initiative to replace each crispy stick with another one when only a short piece was left.
After a while, seven or eight short, incomplete crispy strips were piled on the table.
The biscuits are salty and seem to be sprinkled with chopped green onions.
When you are hungry, everything you smell smells delicious.
After tasting the food, Bai Yan didn’t think too much about it. She wrote the translation quickly while eating one piece of the biscuit at a time.
Unconsciously, she wrote the last period on the paper.
Bai Yan let out a long sigh and drew her attention away from the documents. “Finally done! What did you eat just now? It was delicious.”
Meng Hechuan didn’t expect her to look up suddenly, and his hand was awkwardly raised in the air without time to retract it.
The tips of thumb and index finger were pinching half of the crispy strip, which was slightly damp.
Seeing Bai Yan looking at him, he remained silent.
The hand hanging by his side curled up, and he nonchalantly put the half-eaten crispy bar into Bai Yan’s water cup, “Crispy bar, bought by Lu Jili.”
He gathered the scattered crispy strips and said, “If you like them, take them back.”
Bai Yan looked at him, then looked at the pile of half-eaten biscuits in the cup.
His pupils dilated as he suddenly reacted.
The biscuit I just ate was actually bitten directly from his hand.
“Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t paying attention just now, so I just…”
Bai Yan’s voice became quieter and quieter. She raised her eyelids, and her shoulders straightened visibly. “I really didn’t mean anything else. I didn’t want to… do something weird.”
“Um.”
“Will my suspicion in your heart increase again?”
The tips of Meng Hechuan’s ears turned red. He didn’t want to continue discussing the previous action even more than Bai Yan.
Secretly regretting his own stupid behavior, he changed the subject: “Have you finished translating?”
Seeing that he didn’t care about what happened just now, Bai Yan relaxed a little.
She silently ignored the crispy strips in her heart and followed Meng Hechuan’s words and answered, “The translation is done, but this is the first draft, and my writing is rather sloppy. If you want to use it as a formal document, it will take time to proofread it.”
Meng Hechuan flipped through a few pages.
Bai Yan was still modest. What she called a sloppy draft was actually lines of neat and rigorous words.
“We have the first version of the document, so we can have a technical discussion tomorrow. It’s already enough. It’s getting late now, so let’s go eat first.”
The two of them packed up the documents they had on hand, and Meng Hechuan found a brown paper bag and packed them one by one.
Lu Jili just came back.
With him around, Bai Yan couldn’t find an excuse to leave first.
Half-heartedly, he followed the two of them out of the aerospace brigade.
This was the first time Bai Yan walked out of the compound gate and saw the “outside” world after coming out of Jingzhou Railway Station.
Everything here is new to her.
Jingzhou is the capital, and its prosperity cannot be compared with the countryside in Jinling.
Retro signboards were everywhere, and Bai Yan even saw many snacks that had either disappeared or were extremely rare in the 21st century.
I was dazzled for a moment.
Lu Jili held Meng Hechuan in his arms, acting mysterious and trying to trick him into buying something.
Bai Yan was not curious either. She waited there and watched the stall owner nearby blowing sugar figures.
Someone suddenly bumped into Bai Yan’s shoulder, and she staggered and accidentally stepped on someone.
She tilted her head to take a look, and suddenly three people crowded up to her.
The man in the lead was wearing a broad-shouldered suit with his floral shirt unbuttoned to his chest.
In the middle of winter, the white flesh inside is exposed, and it looks very ugly.
“Ouch! A beautiful lady stepped on my foot.”
Bai Yan glanced around and saw that the people around them seemed to be very afraid of these three men and their eyes were evasive.
She frowned slightly, and decided not to cause trouble. She apologized and was about to leave, “I’m sorry.”
The man spat the cigarette butt onto the ground and reached out to stop Bai Yan, “Little sister, you stepped on my foot and hurt me, how can you just apologize?”
Bai Yan suppressed her panic and looked in the direction where Meng Hechuan and the others left. “Then what do you say we should do?”
“Pay me compensation!” The man in the blue sportswear stepped forward and looked at Bai Yan with lustful eyes. “My brother’s shoes are imported goods, and they cost two or three hundred yuan a pair.”
Bai Yan took a quick glance and saw the man in the leather shoes that had come undone deliberately raised his shoes and shook them in front of her eyes. “Yes, they are imported goods. You stepped on them and broke them. You have to pay a lot of money.”
Bai Yan said nothing.
“Little sister, it’s okay if you can’t afford the compensation. Just play with your brothers for a while, and that will be your compensation.”
“Okay, what to play?”
The man put his hand on Bai Yan’s shoulder, looking impatient, “Come on, little sister, let’s go to the alley, there’s no one there, we can play with some things you have that I don’t have.”
Bai Yan bent down and dodged the man’s hand, “I have something you don’t have?”
A sneer appeared on her lips, “Brain?”
The man’s reaction was obviously not that quick. It took him a while to realize that he was being scolded by Bai Yan.
But he didn’t get angry. Instead, he laughed, “Oh, that chili is so spicy.” He grinned, revealing his yellow teeth, “Let me taste it to see if it’s spicy.”
Seeing Bai Yan hiding, the man was even more proud, “Oh, Brother Qiang, she’s scared!”
My dear, there is more to this chapter. Please click on the next page to continue reading. It’s even more exciting later!
“Yes, I am scared. I was bitten by a dog when I was a child. Now I am a little scared of you.”
“You bitch, don’t refuse our toast and drink the wine for punishment. Don’t think we are stupid. You have scolded us several times in a roundabout way. You will cry soon!”
The man was talking nonsense as the three men surrounded Bai Yan.
“Brother, why is this woman suddenly not afraid?”
Bai Yan clasped her hands across her chest and looked at the three men coldly, without a trace of panic on her face.
The next moment, the man’s collar was grabbed by someone, “It’s you, Brother Qiang. You weren’t punished enough last time, are you trying to stop my sister and cause trouble again?”
Huang Ya, who was so arrogant just now, changed his expression when he saw Lu Jili. “Captain Lu, how can that be possible? The brothers have changed their ways after your ideological education last time. Please don’t misunderstand me!”
Lu Jili narrowed his eyes, “Did I misunderstand?”
Before the three men finished nodding, the smiling face of Lu Jili suddenly disappeared, and the hands on the men’s shoulders suddenly tightened, making the men stick out their tongues.
“Remember this, if I see you doing evil things at the back door of the brigade again, I will just twist your body and send you to the police station.”
The man nodded hurriedly, but was stopped by Lu Jili when he was about to leave.
“Master Lu, do you have anything else to say?”
“It’s nothing. I just want to remind you that my father responded to the call of the country and only gave birth to me. I don’t have a sister. This person is important to Chief Engineer Meng. Next time you meet, please be polite.”
Bai Yan: “Thank you…”
