A Kiss Under the Summer Sky
A Kiss Under the Summer Sky Chapter 12

Chapter 12: The Scumbag (1/2)

Sang Sui clearly sensed that Sheng Yize was irritated.

But she had no idea what he was angry about.

Was he upset that Lin Luoluo mistook him for Zou Jing?

Or was it because Lin Luoluo said they weren’t familiar with each other?

If it was the latter, wasn’t that what he wanted? Why be upset…

Sang Sui couldn’t figure it out. She ate while secretly observing him.

He lowered his head, eating slowly. Perhaps noticing her gaze, he slowly raised his head.

Sang Sui immediately buried her head in her food, making a loud clattering noise with her plate.

Sheng Yize stared at her.

Even without looking at him, Sang Sui could still feel as though his teeth were about to grind into dust.

Thinking about giving him some Autumn Moon Pears later, Sang Sui finally decided to try to appease him.

She looked up at him briefly, then stood up to grab a new pair of chopsticks from the utensil area.

Returning to her seat, she carefully picked up a chicken leg with the new chopsticks and offered it to him, her expression cautious.

“Well… the chicken leg is really good, do you want to… try it?”

The man paused his chopsticks and silently stared at her, neither accepting nor speaking.

Zou Jing pushed his last mouthful of rice, his voice muffled. “Sang Sui, don’t give it to him, that guy is a picky eater. He never eats chicken legs, says they’re full of hormones. You’d better not…”

Before he could finish, Sheng Yize suddenly took the chicken leg from Sang Sui’s hands with his own chopsticks and bit into it.

There was no further conversation, but the group of friends were left stunned.

Zou Jing immediately went silent, his eyes wide open, looking at Chen Yi in disbelief.

Zou Jing raised his eyebrows, his eyes asking: What’s wrong with him? Which nerve did he misfire?

Chen Yi smiled with amusement and raised his eyebrows: The love nerve.

Zou Jing: “??”

Seeing that Sheng Yize had eaten it, Sang Sui sighed in relief.

Thank goodness, thank goodness, he can be appeased.

Sang Sui couldn’t help but smile, then lowered her head to continue eating.

Along the way, she couldn’t resist peeking at him, checking if the chicken leg was really to his liking.

Seeing that he finished the chicken leg, Sang Sui lifted her face with anticipation. “Was it good?”

The man raised an eyebrow and glared at her.

After a while, he finally spoke, “Not good.”

So stubborn.

Chapter 12: The Scumbag (2/2)

The meal was quite chaotic.

Lin Luoluo knew that she had embarrassed Sang Sui by misunderstanding, so she apologized profusely after leaving the cafeteria. She was relieved to see that Sang Sui didn’t hold it against her.

She turned her head to glance at the rich, spoiled young men, and clicked her tongue in approval.

“Sui Sui, I finally understand why you pretend not to know them.”

“Hm?”

“Damn, wherever he goes, he’s the center of attention!”

“…”

Sang Sui glanced around, only then realizing that many girls were staring at Sheng Yize and his group.

She sneaked a glance behind her.

A few of them were surrounded by others.

Sheng Yize walked in the center, one hand in his pocket, the other holding his phone, talking on the call. His posture was tall and graceful, his aura unmatched.

His brows were slightly furrowed, with his bangs falling to cover his eyes, slightly hiding the sharp coldness in his gaze.

Perhaps sensing her gaze, he stopped in his tracks and looked over.

Their eyes met, and for once, Sang Sui didn’t shy away but just stared at him blankly.

Passersby were bustling around them, the autumn wind was cool, and after the meal, everything felt leisurely.

In that moment, their eyes met, and she felt a kind of greed.

Greed for the way he was focusing only on her, addicted to the small joy she felt at that moment, but forced by the harshness of reality to avert her gaze after a few seconds of eye contact.

She glanced at him again.

Sheng Yize chuckled. “Alright, I know, I’m hanging up.”

As soon as the call ended, he was about to move forward when several girls suddenly appeared, blocking his path.

“Hello, are you… Sheng Yize, the senior?”

Sheng Yize frowned. “What’s the matter?”

“Can we add you on WeChat?”

“Which class are you from?”

The girls were stunned, exchanging glances before honestly telling him their class and names.

“Did you become the president of the student union?”

The girls were confused, not understanding why he suddenly asked this.

But they nodded, saying yes.

Sheng Yize raised an eyebrow and casually dialed a number.

The phone was picked up, and he reported their names into the phone before smiling slightly at the girls.

“Mm, remove their positions.”

“Why?”

“Because they harassed the vice president.”

“…”

At a distance, Sang Sui couldn’t hear what he said on the phone but saw him smile at the girls.

Sang Sui’s face stiffened, and she quickly looked away.

Lin Luoluo also noticed and couldn’t help but sneer. “As expected, he’s a scumbag!”

After a moment, as if realizing something, Lin Luoluo suddenly exclaimed, “Oh no, I’m going to be late for my part-time job! Sui Sui, I’ll go first!”

She quickly ran off.

It wasn’t clear what Sheng Yize said to the girls, but their faces showed fear as they quickly ran away.

Nearby, Zou Jing was laughing so hard, he was nearly bent over in pain.

When they walked over, they saw that Sang Sui hadn’t left, and Zou Jing froze for a moment. “Sang Sui, you’re still here? Anything else?”

Sang Sui smiled faintly, then turned to look at Sheng Yize.

Sheng Yize hung up the phone and, seeing her looking at him, asked, “Is there something?”

Actually, Sang Sui was thinking, maybe it’s best to just forget about it today.

She would find a way to get the two boxes of Autumn Moon Pears back to the dorm and have another guy send them to him later, to avoid any contact or face-to-face meeting.

But then she thought, he might refuse the pears, and she found herself in a dilemma.

Chen Yi noticed her unusual expression and asked with concern, “Are you feeling unwell?”

Sheng Yize’s gaze sharpened as he scanned her up and down. He noticed nothing out of the ordinary, but her small face was clearly troubled, as if she were struggling.

“Brother…”

Sang Sui subconsciously called out, then immediately stopped herself when she realized what she had done.

But then, thinking that calling him “Sheng Yize” or “Sheng Yize senior” would sound too distant, she decided to leave the title out.

“My mom sent us two boxes of Autumn Moon Pears. She said one is for you, do you want it?”

Worried that he might refuse, Sang Sui quickly added, “They’re from my grandmother’s farm, they’re very juicy and sweet. If you want, I can…”

“No need.”

Sang Sui’s face froze, and she was silent for a few seconds.

She forced a smile, pretending not to care.

“Alright, then. I have something else to do, I’ll leave first.”

She turned and walked away.

Her back was straight, and her steps quickened, soon disappearing from their view.

Her heart felt heavy.

She had failed again.

She had tried so hard to get close to him, to ease their relationship, but still…

She failed.

The delivery station was at the school’s back gate. Sang Sui almost ran there without looking back.

After giving the delivery code to the courier and picking up the parcels, she saw that it was indeed two large boxes, each weighing over seventy pounds.

She tried lifting one but found it too heavy. After several attempts, she couldn’t lift it.

Just as she was about to find an old man nearby to borrow a cart, a warm voice came from behind.

“I’ll help you.”
