A Kiss Under the Summer Sky Chapter 15

Chapter 15: The Daughter of the Culprit (1/2)

“Then shut up.”

“……”

Chen Yi shrugged and turned the pear in his hand in front of his eyes. “I’m still quite confused.”

“You say…” Chen Yi glanced at him. “That girl, Sang Sui, didn’t do anything to you, right? I don’t think you’re a petty person, so why do you have such a big issue with her?”

Sheng Yize lowered his hand, his neck leaning against the back of the chair as he looked up at the ceiling of the car.

In the dim light, he slightly furrowed his sword-like brows and let out a soft sneer.

“The daughter of the culprit… just seeing her annoys me.”

The daughter of the culprit?

Chen Yi paused, “What happened?”

“Nothing.” Sheng Yize changed the subject. “Which company are we meeting this time?”

Seeing that he didn’t want to talk about it, Chen Yi didn’t press further.

He put the pear back in its place and said seriously, “Ziyang Technology, the leader in domestic AI smart development. This time they want to launch a product aimed at helping left-behind children and the elderly communicate smoothly with the outside world.”

“Currently, the company is bidding for national AI smart programming projects, and if our company wins this bid, it will bring enough funds, and we won’t need to rely on some investors.”

“After all, for us, relying solely on the investment money from investors to keep our company afloat is too passive.”

Sheng Yize nodded, “Is the plan ready?”

“It’s ready.”

Chen Yi took out a folder from the side and handed it over.

Sheng Yize took it and flipped through it carefully.

“The head of their company has already seen our bid proposal and plan, and they really like our ideas and concepts,” Chen Yi paused. “Of course, there are many companies competing with us, so we can’t be careless.”

“Chen Yi.”

Sheng Yize closed the folder.

“Brother Sheng.”

Sheng Yize looked at him, his expression serious. “This time, we must win.”

Chen Yi’s eyes flickered, and he suddenly smiled. “Brother Sheng, there’s no need to put so much pressure on yourself, right? Even if we fail this time and the company can’t continue, you can still go back and inherit the family’s billions, right?”

Sheng Yize didn’t speak, just staring at him intently.

Chen Yi immediately raised both hands. “It’s my fault, I won’t speak again, oops, I almost forgot, you and your old man don’t get along, and you wouldn’t even want to take anything from him.”

Sheng Yize turned his face, sneering.

“Maybe it’s all that little brat’s.”

“Little brat?”

Chen Yi was slightly surprised and instinctively wanted to ask who the little brat was, but for some reason, Sang Sui’s face suddenly flashed in his mind.

No way, could it be that Sheng Guohua wants to give the family fortune to Sang Sui?

Sang Sui is really his sister?

Chapter 15: The Daughter of the Culprit (2/2)

Sheng Yize and Chen Yi met with the head of Ziyang Technology, and when they left the hotel, it was already 7 p.m.

Chen Yi had some urgent matters to attend to at home, so he leaned on the car window and said goodbye to Sheng Yize.

“Thanks for your hard work today, Brother Sheng. You don’t have any classes tomorrow, so go home and get a good night’s sleep.”

Chen Yi glanced at the autumn pear on the central control panel, then patted his shoulder.

“Anyway, don’t put all the blame on a little girl. She’s innocent too.”

He waved and turned to leave.

Sheng Yize turned to look at him, but Chen Yi had already turned away.

He looked back at the autumn pear.

The night market was quiet, and the ceiling lights outside the hotel reflected into the car.

The pear stood in the light, shining brightly, but it could only quietly and lonely remain there.

Just looking at that pear, his mind filled with the image of that annoying girl, lingering stubbornly.

He opened the storage drawer under his seat and threw the pear inside.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Sheng Yize didn’t return to school but instead went to the Tianfu neighborhood.

The car entered the underground parking garage, stopped, and he grabbed his jacket and car keys, opening the car door to get out.

“Bang—”

The car door closed, and he pressed the key to lock the doors.

He walked a short distance before his steps suddenly halted.

The motion-sensing light turned off, and the man was enveloped in darkness.

Not sure how long he stood there, he eventually turned around and headed back.

He opened the car door, reached into the drawer below, and the pear rolled due to inertia.

He stared quietly at it.

The girl’s dejected expression flashed in his mind.

She clearly cared whether he wanted her or not, but after hearing his rejection, she pretended not to care.

That little act, she probably thought he didn’t see through it.

Sheng Yize gritted his teeth, but in the end, he still grabbed the pear, clenched it in his hand, and got out of the car.

He locked the car door and turned to leave.

He took the elevator up to his apartment, unlocked the door with the fingerprint scanner, and closed the door behind him, heading straight to his bedroom.

He tossed the pear onto the desk, turned on the desk lamp, and sat down in the chair.

The light pooled in one corner, the room dim. Sheng Yize sat in the gloom, his hand casually resting on the desk, holding a lighter.

His thumb pressed down on the wheel, “Click-click,” the flame flickered in his hand.

The flame occasionally lit up his face, and his eyelashes drooped, his gaze fixed on the pear.

The bloody images from that day flashed across his mind again, like a sharp knife cutting into his heart, each cut deeper than the last.

The setting sun painted the western horizon red that evening, the bustling city center with its endless cars and noise. He stood from a distance, watching as a car, out of control, sped toward Wen Xuelin.

In that moment, some screamed, others panicked.

“Bang—”

The woman couldn’t dodge in time and was thrown into the air, like a leaf falling, before crashing to the ground.

Blood flowed out from under her body, blooming like a ghastly flower.

The scarlet red stained his vision, and he felt as if the blood in his body was flowing backward, heavy and numb, rendering him motionless.

The noise around him was filled with panic, some trying to rescue, others calling for an ambulance, and everything was chaotic.

He stared at the glaring red, breathing heavily, his whole body shaking.

He could hardly believe that, in the midst of the chaos, he saw his most respected father emerge from a restaurant with that woman.

And that woman, who claimed to be his mother’s best friend.

His mother had once begged his father to help that woman’s daughter get into the prestigious Yunjing High School.

How laughable.

His mother’s kindness and loyalty had only earned her betrayal in return.

At some point, the wind began to howl outside.

The night wind made a noise as it blew, causing the windows to tremble.

Inside the room, Sheng Yize remained in the same sitting posture.

He stared at the pear.

Chen Yi said she was innocent.

But was she really innocent?

Even if she did nothing, she was still that woman’s daughter.

He couldn’t bring himself to greet the daughter of the woman who betrayed his mother with a smile.

The wind outside howled louder, and rain began to tap on the window, accompanied by the faint, grayish light that resembled ghostly shadows in the night.

His chest rose and fell slightly with anger, and his eyes slowly filled with mounting resentment.

Suddenly, he stood up.

He grabbed the pear, turned, and threw it into the trash can.
