A Kiss Under the Summer Sky Chapter 16

Chapter 16: Into His Arms (1/2)

The school had arranged the military training for freshmen on Wednesday next week.

After lunch, Sang Sui and Lin Luoluo planned to go to the school supermarket to buy some essentials for the military training.

“Water bottles, socks, handkerchiefs, sunscreen, sanitary pads, and… huoxiangzhengqi water…”

On the way, Lin Luoluo was jotting down notes with a pen and small notebook.

“By the way, Sui Sui, what do you want to buy? I’ll write it down for you.”

Sang Sui stopped in her tracks, about to speak, when her gaze accidentally flicked to Sheng Yize, standing at the entrance of the supermarket.

The man was leaning against the wall at the entrance, wearing a black shirt and pants, with the hem of his shirt tucked into his waistband, showcasing his slim waist.

He held a cigarette between his fingers, and as the smoke swirled around him, his handsome face tilted slightly upwards, his sharp nose making his features appear almost otherworldly.

A few boys gathered around him, chatting about something, and he raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile curling on his lips.

He looked like a man who played with life.

It seemed like he noticed the gaze from this side, as he turned and looked over.

Sang Sui quickly turned her gaze away.

Under the scorching sun, his smile faded, and his eyes became cold and distant.

Since the day she had given him the pear, she hadn’t seen him in several days.

The anxiety and unease she had felt after giving the pear disappeared the moment she noticed his cold demeanor. What remained was only disappointment and frustration.

He didn’t like that pear.

Even though the only reason she had given it to him was to return a favor, he didn’t like it, and that was enough.

Seeing her silent, Lin Luoluo looked up. “What’s wrong, why are you silent…”

Seeing Sheng Yize not far away, she tugged at Sang Sui’s arm. “Sui Sui, look, the girl beside Sheng Yize, is that Leng Siran?”

Sang Sui looked up.

At some point, a girl had appeared beside him.

She was wearing a pink dress, holding a bag in her hand, and had a red bow on her slightly curled long hair. Her pearl earrings gently swayed as she tilted her head.

Even though they could only see her side profile and outfit, they immediately recognized it was Leng Siran, who had dressed up carefully this morning.

Sang Sui’s gaze sharpened, and her nails subconsciously dug into her palm.

The boys around Sheng Yize saw Leng Siran and smiled ambiguously before dispersing.

It seemed that Leng Siran had already known Sheng Yize.

No wonder she had said she wasn’t familiar with Sheng Yize that day, but her attitude had done a complete 180 afterward.

Lin Luoluo frowned. “Sui Sui, your brother is quite the playboy. Didn’t he just hold hands with that Zhou Xizi? And now he’s with…”

Sang Sui had already stepped into the supermarket before she could finish.

Lin Luoluo quickly followed her.

The two were standing in front of the shelves, selecting sanitary pads.

Even though Lin Luoluo was usually a bit careless, she still sensed Sang Sui’s sadness.

She guessed what was going on, but hesitated to ask and eventually remained silent.

“Sui Sui, do you want day-use or night-use?” Lin Luoluo spoke up.

Sang Sui didn’t respond, holding a package of sanitary pads and staring blankly at it.

Sigh…

Lin Luoluo glanced at the shelves, wanting to grab the night-use pads on the top, but realized she couldn’t reach them.

She tried standing on tiptoe, but still couldn’t reach.

Just as she was about to give up, a long, fair hand reached over her head and brought the pads down for her.

“Is this what you wanted?”

The voice was clear and bright, like a refreshing breeze in summer.

Lin Luoluo looked up, and the boy before her seemed familiar—

“Chen Yi, senior?!” Lin Luoluo finally remembered his name.

Chen Yi raised an eyebrow. “What, you only remember Zhou Jing for buying you chicken legs?”

Lin Luoluo laughed and took the sanitary pads from his hand. “No, no, thank you.”

Chen Yi tilted his head and looked at Sang Sui behind her. “Sang Sui, is that you?”

Sang Sui snapped out of her daze. “Chen Yi, how come you’re here?”

Chen Yi smiled. “This is the school supermarket. Why can’t I be here?”

“That’s not what I meant. I was just…” Thinking of Sheng Yize, Sang Sui hesitated and didn’t mention his name.

“What were you going to say?”

Lin Luoluo interrupted, “Probably asking you why you aren’t with Sheng Yize since he’s out there with a girl. You two are so close, why aren’t you together?”

“Sheng Yize on a date?” Chen Yi looked surprised, laughing. “You mean Leng Siran?”

“You know her?”

“Isn’t she your roommate?”

“…”

“You all are overthinking,” Chen Yi laughed. “Sheng Ge is going to a birthday party today. The host asked him to bring Leng Siran along.”

Chen Yi suddenly looked at Sang Sui, an idea crossing his mind. “Do you want to join?”

“Can we join?” Lin Luoluo’s eyes lit up.

“Of course. The birthday boy loves lively parties, and we’re all acquainted with a lot of friends.”

Lin Luoluo grabbed Sang Sui’s hand. “Sui Sui, let’s go!”

If they went, they might run into Sheng Yize and Leng Siran.

Leng Siran was fine, but Sheng Yize…

He hated her, and she didn’t want to bump into him at a private gathering.

Sang Sui smiled faintly, pressing her lips together. “You can go with Chen Yi, I think I’ll head back to do some homework…”

A gentle reminder: If you can’t find the book title, try searching for the author, as it may have changed.

Chapter 16: Into His Arms (2/2)

Sang Sui didn’t want to go, and Lin Luoluo naturally couldn’t go alone.

Though disappointed, Lin Luoluo didn’t insist and reluctantly turned down Chen Yi’s offer.

However, unexpectedly, in the afternoon, they received a power outage notice, saying that the female dormitory’s electrical circuit needed maintenance, and the power would be off from 7 PM to 10 PM.

Unable to finish their homework or find a spot in the library, Sang Sui reluctantly agreed to go with Lin Luoluo to the birthday party.

Chen Yi drove them to the venue.

The two girls sat in the back seat. Once in the car, Lin Luoluo opened up, chatting non-stop.

Chen Yi was driving in the front seat, occasionally responding, and sometimes even trying to keep the conversation going by initiating topics.

Sang Sui, sitting quietly behind, was struck by how talkative Lin Luoluo was despite appearing shy, almost like a social butterfly.

In contrast, Sang Sui barely spoke.

Her head rested against the car window, gazing out at the bustling night market, lost in thought.

She had imagined, after Sheng Yize broke up with Zhou Xizi, who he might fall for next.

She had thought of many beautiful girls around him, but never Leng Siran.

She couldn’t bring herself to imagine what she would do if Sheng Yize really ended up with Leng Siran.

Would she pretend nothing had happened and treat her roommate like a “sister-in-law,” or would she, like the other girls who liked Sheng Yize, silently suffer?

No matter which it was, she seemed to have no right to any of it.

She had no right to call Leng Siran “sister-in-law,” nor did she have the right to openly show her feelings for him like those girls did.

After all, they were nothing.

The car continued to drive, and the conversation between Chen Yi and Lin Luoluo shifted from how Chen Yi and Sheng Yize met, to Chen Yi’s personal preferences, and even his romantic life.

When the topic of relationships came up, Chen Yi jokingly said, “Well, I’m still single. Want to introduce me to someone?”

Lin Luoluo paused, “I only know girls my age, no way you’re going after someone younger.”

“?” Chen Yi was amused, “How old are you?”

“18.”

“I’m only three years older than you.”

“You haven’t heard of the three-year age gap being a generation gap?”

“Sigh, getting old.” Chen Yi sighed dramatically, turning the steering wheel and entering another road, “I’m getting old!”

Sang Sui was brought back to her thoughts by their conversation. Lin Luoluo turned and asked, “By the way, Sui Sui, how many years older is Sheng Yize than you?”

Why did Sheng Yize come up again?

Sang Sui smiled faintly. “Three years.”

“So you’ve known him for how many years?”

“About four years.”

Lin Luoluo counted on her fingers. “So you knew him since you were in first year?”

Thinking back to the time when she first came to Yun Jing city and met Sheng Yize’s family, Sang Sui smiled lightly and nodded. “Yes, my mom brought me to Yun Jing city for my studies, and that’s when I met him.”

Lin Luoluo went “Oh,” then turned to Chen Yi in the front seat, “Chen Yi, nothing, don’t mind.”

Chen Yi asked, confused, “?”

“Well, she’s got Sheng Yize, they’re close enough to grow old together.”

“…”

That was the hardest hit from the age gap attack.

Half an hour later.

The car stopped in front of a high-end club called “Zhen Yue Ye.”

The three of them got out of the car, and Chen Yi made sure to add them on WeChat in case they got separated during the party. After a few instructions, he led them inside.

The club was huge, and as soon as they walked in, the blaring music nearly drowned their ears.

“Are you hungry? Let me get you some food first.”

They had already eaten dinner, but by now, their stomachs were nearly empty.

Chen Yi led them to a table and handed each of them a small cake.

Just as he gave them the cakes, someone called him over.

Chen Yi gave them a few instructions and then left with the other person.

Sang Sui and Lin Luoluo sat side by side on the sofa.

Sang Sui absentmindedly dug into her cake, scanning the crowd for the familiar figure.

But there was no sign of him.

The two sat for a while. Sang Sui sipped some water, but soon felt the urge to go to the restroom.

“Luoluo, I need to go to the bathroom.”

“You go ahead, I’ll wait here.”

Sang Sui nodded, setting the cake down, and stood up to head out.

Coming out of the restroom, Sang Sui wandered down a dim corridor, only to realize she had gotten lost.

She kept walking forward, trying to use her memory of how she came in to find her way out.

She tried to recognize each hallway, but the twists and turns seemed to blur, and every hallway looked the same.

Just then, she saw a different light at the end of a corridor, and her eyes lit up as she hurried towards it.

She turned the corner—

And suddenly, her body crashed into a warm embrace.
