A Kiss Under the Summer Sky Chapter 20

Chapter 20: Can You Stop Running a Fever? (1/2)

Sheng Yize’s pupils dilated as he suddenly reached out and grabbed Sang Sui’s waist.

The girl was pulled into his embrace, and her head heavily bumped against his chest.

The heart in his chest was pounding wildly, and Sheng Yize lowered his head, only to see Sang Sui faint in his arms.

“Sheng Yize, you damn bastard, I’m going to kill you…”

The man lunged forward again.

Sheng Yize kicked him in the chest, sending the man crashing to the ground.

Chen Yi and Zou Jing were stunned for a few seconds before quickly rushing forward to pin the man down.

Sheng Yize horizontally carried Sang Sui and quickly rushed down the stairs.

“Sui Sui!”

Lin Luoluo quickly reacted and hurried after them.

An hour later.

Ren’ai Hospital.

“How is she?” Sheng Yize stepped forward.

The doctor put away various examination instruments and turned to look at him. “We’ve done a brain scan for the patient, and there’s no major problem. It’s just that the brain was subjected to a significant external impact, leading to mild brain injury, commonly known as a concussion.”

Sheng Yize frowned. “Is it serious?”

“Not too serious. I’ll prescribe some medicine for her, and as long as she follows the doctor’s orders and rests for a while, she should recover.”

Sheng Yize’s shoulders relaxed. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

Lin Luoluo followed the doctor out to retrieve the report, leaving only the two of them in the room.

Sheng Yize pulled a chair next to the bed and quietly watched the person lying on the bed.

Her head was wrapped in bandages, and her face was pale, looking frail, making her features appear even more delicate.

Sheng Yize clasped his hands together, resting his forehead on them, his eyes lowered, taking deep breaths.

The fear that had caused his whole chest to tremble with rapid heartbeats gradually began to settle.

He took another deep breath, then lifted his gaze to stare at the person on the bed.

She had fainted because she saved him, taking the blow from that man’s punch straight to the temple.

That punch had been full of force; her small body couldn’t withstand it, and she fainted instantly.

When Lin Luoluo returned, she saw Sheng Yize sitting on the narrow chair, his upper body slightly hunched.

His back was lonely, filled with regret.

She clicked her tongue and walked in. “The report confirms there’s nothing major, and the doctor has given Sui Sui a few days of IV drips. She’ll stay in the hospital for a few days.”

“As for school, I’ve already asked for a leave of absence for her. She just needs to rest in the hospital.”

Sheng Yize responded with a muffled sound, his eyes still fixed on Sang Sui on the bed.

Lin Luoluo placed the report at the foot of the bed, stood in silence for a few seconds, and opened her mouth as if to say something but didn’t know how to begin.

Forget it.

Sang Sui liked him, and she probably didn’t want her to scold him.

Moreover, Sang Sui had done this to save him.

He wasn’t entirely wrong.

Lin Luoluo sighed softly and glanced at her phone’s clock.

“The school’s curfew is approaching, I need to head back now. I’ll come to see Sui Sui tomorrow.”

The man didn’t respond, remaining motionless in his seat.

Lin Luoluo helplessly pursed her lips and turned to leave.

Just as she stepped out of the room, she bumped into Chen Yi and Zou Jing.

“Are you heading back?” Chen Yi approached her and asked.

“Mm, there’s a curfew at school, so I need to get back.”

“I’ll drive you.”

“No, no, it’s too much trouble…”

“What trouble?” Chen Yi naturally took the bag from her hands and instructed Zou Jing, “Tell Sheng Ge about the situation. The man who hit her has already been taken to the police station.”

Zou Jing, still concerned about Sang Sui, didn’t look back. “Got it.”

Chen Yi smiled at Lin Luoluo. “Let’s go.”

“Thank you.”

“Don’t be so polite.”

Lin Luoluo smiled and didn’t say anything else.

Chen Yi, a bit puzzled, glanced at her and said, “Your personality… it’s still hard to figure out.”

“Huh? What do you mean?”

“You were chattering non-stop in the car earlier. Why are you so quiet now? Were you scared by what happened to Sui Sui?”

She was indeed scared.

But that wasn’t the only reason.

In the car, he said she was socially awkward, but she wasn’t.

She had social anxiety.

She only dared to speak to people she was familiar with. For those she wasn’t as familiar with, like the man in front of her, she would suddenly become quiet.

And that familiar person, in the beginning, had been Sang Sui.

Now, it was just the two of them. With no topic to talk about, it felt a bit awkward.

Lin Luoluo looked at Chen Yi and half-jokingly said, “Maybe it’s because… I’m tired.”

“…”

The man who had struck her was taken to the police station by Chen Yi and Zou Jing.

Hao Jun and the others heard about the incident and wanted to come and check, but they were all turned away by Chen Yi.

At that time, the gathering had been private, and only those with invitation cards could enter.

The man they didn’t recognize was likely someone brought in by a person Hao Jun had invited.

On the way to the police station, Chen Yi and Zou Jing pressured the man, trying to force him to reveal who had instructed him to do this.

The man wouldn’t say anything. He only said he hated Sheng Yize for taking what he believed was his and that he wanted Sheng Yize to die.

Unable to extract any more information and fearing he might escape, Chen Yi and Zou Jing decided to send him to the police station and wait for further handling.

“The situation is basically like that.” Zou Jing finished speaking, then glanced at Sheng Yize, who was still staring at Sang Sui on the bed.

“Sang Sui… is her situation very serious?” Zou Jing’s voice faltered slightly, fearing the answer might be something he didn’t want to hear.

Sheng Yize’s body stiffened for a moment. After a long pause, he spoke: “Mild concussion.”

“Then why hasn’t she woken up?”

“She’s weak, and the punch was quite severe. She fainted after being hit.”

Zou Jing, his anger still unresolved, asked Sheng Yize a few more questions related to Sang Sui.

Sheng Yize continued to sit there, occasionally shaking, as if he had lost his soul.

Zou Jing stayed at the hospital for a while, then left when it got late.

At two in the morning, Sang Sui suddenly developed a high fever.

Sheng Yize felt her temperature rise when he was changing the medicine on her forehead. He realized it when his fingers touched her skin.

He frowned and immediately reached out to feel her forehead.

It was burning hot.

Sheng Yize pressed the call button next to the bed, and several nurses quickly rushed over.

After a simple check, the nurses found that the fever was caused by a stress reaction from the concussion.

They administered a fever-reducing injection, then left the room.

The hospital room was quiet, with moonlight streaming in, casting a faint glow on one corner of the floor.

Sheng Yize gently placed his hand on her hand, closely monitoring her temperature.

To avoid disturbing her rest, the room was only lit by a bedside lamp, and the dim light was softened by the cool moonlight.

An hour had passed since the fever-reducing injection, but her temperature hadn’t gone down much.

Her breathing was shallow, almost imperceptible.

The man watched her intently, his heart filled with mixed emotions.

He squeezed her small hand, his voice laced with helplessness.

“Can you stop running a fever?”
